The Backyard House

I stayed at this property and during my stay a serious safety incident occurred: the bedroom ceiling collapsed while I was inside the room, not to mention the significant mold in the ceiling they move me to after the collapse.
This does not appear to be an isolated incident. According to the owner’s wife, a ceiling collapse already occurred in 2024 in another room in the early hours of the morning, collapsing onto a guest who was sleeping at the time. Another ceiling collapse occurred again in 2025 in a different room. These repeated incidents seem pretty concerning.
Despite this history, the property continues to operate. Repairs appear to be done only after a ceiling collapses, and only to the immediate area, without addressing adjacent ceiling sections (ceiling above bed repaired but ceiling next to the bed near bathroom not repaired). No compensation was offered for the danger, shock, or disruption caused when the ceiling collapsed in my room.
The bedroom ceiling that collapsed did not show visible mold beforehand, while the bathroom ceiling had extensive mold, which other guests have also mentioned in reviews. This issue did not appear to be addressed.
After the ceiling collapse, while I was still recovering from the shock, another guest was repeatedly very noisy during quiet hours in the early morning for several days. This included loud activity as well as persistent environmental noise (such as a beeping electric meter), which the landlord declined to resolve.

Kind and easy staying here with my girlfriend for a week!
Actually it’s almost centered location, so you have same time route to everything around it to explore the island!
No noise tourists around!

I was staying here for a month, Mr. Yoga is really friendly and my time here was great. The kitchen has all the needed stuff to cook, the rooms are clean and comfy, the area is perfect if you are looking for a place that is not too touristy. Highly recommend👍

I am a solo Australian female traveller who has enjoyed my time here at The Backyard House. It is a gorgeous little sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy places. The hosts, Yoga and his family, are very kind and it has been interesting meeting other travelers who have stayed here as well as the surrounding locals throughout. The room has everything I needed, including cold air conditioning, a comfortable bed and access to a kitchen to make coffee and simple meals. I was able to hire a scooter here also for the duration of my stay for a very fair price. If you are looking for a peaceful and comfortable stay, I recommend a stay here.

I spent 3 weeks in this accommodation and everything was impeccable, there is a shared kitchen where you can cook and eat. The location is quiet and far from all the tourists. The host offers scooter rentals at a very good price which is very useful for getting around wherever you want. Finally the host and his family are very welcoming and kind. I recommend this place 100%

Staying in the backyard house is always a pleasure. Yoga and his family make you feel like at home and they are very helpful with any questions you may have. It’s a perfect budget place to stay out of busy areas and experience a more local vibe!

It was an amazing experience the owner was welcoming to all his guests very caring humble and helpful. The location was perfect for peace and quiet area. I was amazed because I was close to a gym, spa and a night market. Everything was amazing so if you want a peace quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city life atmosphere I highly recommended it.

An inviting and comfortable space, perfect for those who appreciate peace and tranquility (quiet). The showers are delightful, offering the option of both hot and cold water. The owners, Yoga and Ayu, are exceptionally kind and friendly. Overall, excellent value – a solid 5-star experience.

This is my first time in Bali and I was recommended this place. Very kind and responsive hosts, will always help, support and tell about culture.
The place is ideal for travelling, 20 minutes to Canggu and 20 minutes to Ubud (if there are no traffic jams). Also it’s very quiet place.
You can meet local and communicate with people from different countries.

I booked here with yoga and family for one month but ended up leaving after 3 weeks. The rooms are very small and there is no furniture and not much anywhere to put your belongings so it’s hard to keep the place really tidy. Also the interior is brick wall and it kinda smell’s especially after you have had a shower because there is no ventilation at all in the small space. Staying here for one or two days would be ideal if you want to save but if your going to do long term, I would pay that extra couple of bucks for that extra comfort. Yoga and family are really nice people they will help you as much as they can.

Not happy to give negative comments, but no choice here.
The room has exposed bricks, which are constantly humid and releasing and very strong cement smell. Makes the breathing in a small space very difficult, as the widow do not open.
The bricks are full of dust and spider webs.
The bed linen has cigarette burns, and looks like it hasn't been moved since the holes are matching the mattress holes.
There isn't any duna cover, I doubt that it is washed between customers.
The towel (only 1) was rolled on the bed and I wouldn't even use it to mop the floor! Full of holes and ripped!
The bathroom door doesn't fully close, because it is exposed to the water from the shower and is all saturated with water.
Early 4am you get the street dogs barking and the roosters. Impossible to sleep.
Booked 2 nights but had to leave after the 1st night.
The owner didn't even acknowledge the problem and didn't bother refunding the extra night.
Not worth trying to save on some $ here.

We’re looking so long for such a place! Price and place acceptable compared to Canggu! House is beautiful, cozy and clean. Rice field next to the house, location is great about the whole island, 15 min great beach, 30 min Ubud. Yoga and Ayu are kind-hearted people, it’s pleasure to have such hosts! Highly recommend!

This is the spot for you if you're traveling alone and need a peaceful,  quiet place to stay.
Regarding the space.  Although it is not extremely large,  it is sufficient for your needs and worth every penny you spend.
Yoga,  the owner of the place,  had made me feel like a friend's home more than just a guesthouse.
If there is a chance I come back around Tabanan I gonna stay here.
