I was looking for a cooking class recommendations in Bali, so I finally went for one and it was amazing! Can’t recommend them more! It was in Tugu hotel in batu bolong in Canggu. And it was a surprise for Valentine’s Day for my boyfriend haha. He was pleasantly surprised and he loved it so much!
Before the cooking class I went to the hotel to discuss the menu with the manager, she was very helpful and recommended the most interesting and fun dishes to cook. You can choose three main courses, one sambal and one dessert. The cooking class itself was amazing, we had the best time! The chefs were so nice, kind, welcoming and accommodating, and they were telling us everything and answering all our questions! After cooking they served us beautiful lunch and surprised us with a cake with our names on it and a card. Honestly it was the best experience and so unique, I’m very thankful to the hotel team
So if a cooking class is smth you wanna do in Bali I definitely recommend to try it in Tugu hotel.

A peaceful haven with great service.

5 stars! Amazing gem of a hotel. Refreshing to see that they kept the traditional buildings & added western comforts (like air conditioning) to the rooms. Too many hotels here have strayed from what makes Bali so special. Recommended! Upon checkin we were warmly greeted with a beautiful handmade balinese flower arrangement, mini blessing ceremony, & walked through all the amenities at the hotel. Highly recommend you book direct & see any specials on their website, we caught a special room rate that included 2 massages! General Manager personally came over to welcome us & offered a room with a better view if we could wait about an hour, which of course we did! Attention to detail is outstanding here. The setting and surrounding gardens are a sanctuary Yes it is a little quirky in some respects (the taps omg) but it is one of a kind charming and the all day at anytime and anywhere breakfast an absolute genius idea as you get to go surfing etc and work up appetite and then indulge in a truly lovely indulgent and generous breakfast any time of day you wish thoroughly recommend the Indonesian breakfasts.

Amazing place. The design is the best and the cooking classes were amazing. Daisy is the best! If you want to learn how to cook Balinese dishes, this is the place to go.

I've stayed in both Tugu Bali and Tugu Lombok this year, you will honestly not ever think about hotels int eh same way. Living history, incredible architecture and amazing locations. The mantra massage was one of the best treatments I've ever had, and I have had many. Absolutely amazing service at both of these hotels.

Had the worst Easter Brunch here: waited a good 40 minutes for our drinks (including water) and 2.5 h for our food, which arrived cold and uninviting. Had to walk around to look for a waiter to place our order, which was taken grudgingly and delivered hours later. We barely ate anything and were charged fully, including the service which we never received. It's hard to believe this is a 5 star resort, received much better service at the most basic warungs on the island.

I don’t know where to start and I don’t know where to end, because I most probably can’t stop raving about my unique experience at this magical place in Bali, the Island of Gods. Entering Tugu Hotel Bali is just like being transported to another world. Everywhere you look you’d find Indonesian antique collection so meticulously curated by avid antique collector and entrepreneur Anhar Setjadibrata. You’d learn so much more about Indonesian history and colonial period by visiti…ng all Tugu Group’s properties than going to any museum in this country in one go. My suite was lavish which includes its own fish pond with an array of Koi fish in it, a massive bed one could get lost in, a private plunge pool and an exotic inside-outside bathroom, amongst others. And don’t let the appearance fool you: it’s very authentic and traditional, but let me tell you, this room has more modern, functional and practical amenities and facilities than any newly-built modern hotel rooms. Everything… I mean, EVERYTHING has been thought of carefully to ensure an effortless, five-star seamless hotel guest experience. The service, from the welcome to the goodbye, from breakfast to the complimentary welcome massage and from room service to my dinner at Ji Restaurant Bali, the island’s best Japanese restaurant overlooking the fabled Canggu beach, was discreet yet outstanding and über-courteous yet effortless.

Simply stunning in every possible way. So tasteful, so friendly, so convenient—what a treat. One of many highlights was a cooking class by one of the hotel’s wonderful staff, including early morning market visit.

Wow… I am so in love with this hotel. I decided to come to Canngu for my birthday and stayed at Tugu for two nights. Upon arrival, the staff welcomed me with a fresh beverage and Massage. I received a tour around the property and it’s breathtaking. The architecture is classic Balinese style and the rooms are filled with classic Balinese art and furniture. Tugu is actually a historical landmark so you get luxury and culture. Beautiful big pool, lovely gardens and a dreamy big pond with fish. My room was next level with views of the gardens and sea. Attached to my bedroom was an indoor/outdoor space with a gorgeous big tub. I spent most of my time in the tub… lol… which they filled with rose petals. Also, I think the bed is one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in. Omg… the pillows were amazing too. I’m ordering these online. The breakfast is yummy and they offer a large selection. I also loved the tea time treats and enjoyed those at the upstairs restaurant with a view of the sea at sunset. The staff made my birthday so special with flowers, a card and a birthday cake with my name on it. I was far from my family but I definitely felt I had one here. Thank you Tugu!

Hotel Tugu stands alone as the most unique hotel in Canggu. It's traditional wooden style lobby area complete with huge art works and low lighting create an atmosphere both charming and luxurious and you'll definitely know you've arrived in Bali. The staff were warm and very welcoming and we were ushered to our suite even though we arrived early. The room was classy, spacious and provided all the privacy we needed. The restaurant and dining areas provide wonderful views of the sea and surfers catching breaks and the food is delicious and fresh. Location is a just seconds from the beach with many great restaurants and bars in Canggu minutes away. If you want to venture further afield the staff can arrange a scooter immediately. Highly recommended for a memorable stay in Canggu.

Nice atmosphere, very good quality food. The ancient building, the art, the nice staff, all of that creates a pleasant, calm and quiet surrounding. We enjoyed lunch at the Ji restaurant with some of the best Japanese dishes I've tasted in Bali.

Amazing Royal Banquet experience. Fantastic tasting food, and the staff were ust perfect!

What an incredible place. Even if you can't afford to stay here one must come for the cultural dinner and dance every Thursday. The food is incredible. The drinks are unique and delicious and you get to experience a number of incredible traditional dances set to music. The staff are equally amazing and attentative. I literally can't say enough good things about this place. Well worth the price and personally a highlight of my trip!

Gorgeous accommodations in traditional rooms. Staff and manager go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of and comfortable.

Have traveled around the world and back again. This is one of my favorite hotels. Reminds me a lot of what you’ll find in super high end Marrakech. You enter through the front and you’re in a different world that much is clear. The respect to the culture and traditions is evident in every aspect while all modern amenities are available. Will be back.

Mesmerising sea view at the rooftop restaurant. There is live music in the evening. You can relish lunch near the pool area too. We ordered grilled fish in Balinese spices. It was delicious. We went ahead to explore the property, every bit of it was designed extraordinarily. Would recommend staying here too. Highly recommended.

We stayd for 2 night in the wonderful Rejang Suite with private Spa with a fantastic sunken bathtub. Everything was amazing from services to details. Tugu Hotel is like a little museum of Indonesian art and history:3 days of full immersion with local culture according to Indonesian hospitality. The property is a huge tropical garden with pools, lotus ponds and just few steps to the Canggu Beach. Rich breakfast and meals always with fresh fruits and juices served where we wanted. Extraordinary the 3rd floor with a romantic view to the ocean expecially by the sunset. Thanks Tugu Hotel staff for everything!

A stay at Tugu is to live briefly surrounded by the history of Indonesia. The hotel has an actual museum on site but everywhere you look art and artefacts appear. The attached three-level Ji Restaurant and spectacular sunset-viewing terrace take a more colourful but still character-filled approach to design. Don't miss Tugu when you come to Canggu.

We stayed at Hotel Tugu for 2 nights in November 2017. As we had not been to Canguu before, Hotel Tugu was perfectly positioned to explore Canguu. The hotel's location is a few metres from the beach as well as being ideally located to a lot of restaurants and amenities. We loved the Balinese influence throughout the hotel — the design certainly has a lot of character to it. The size of our room was great, and it was fantastic how separate each of the rooms were. It felt like we were in our own little paradise. While there are not many rooms at the hotel, there is certainly plenty of amenities. Our favourite part was the JI Terrace which was a perfect setting to watch the sunset! We loved our stay at Hotel Tugu and when we return to Canguu we will definitely be staying there again!

Beautiful grounds and gardens leading into an amazing open restaurant (with straw roof) — we came on a Thursday night to see the traditional Balinese entertainment with dinner — highly recommend!

I loved the ambiance of this place. You feel relaxed the moment you enter. I love how they do a daily coffee and tea with traditional Balinese cakes. The rooms are amazing! You get your own private pool along with a stunning outdoor bathroom. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a romantic getaway.

Visited for the Thursday cultural event. Didn't book ahead, sat in the back on a sofa, drank some Arak. Recommended!

Private art hotel with amazing ocean view. Beautiful natural beach in front of the resort. We stayed in a suite with a fabulous semi open air bathroom. Very friendly and attentive staff who left every day some new flower decoration plus a note with an inspiring quote in our room. In terms of food, we would have appreciated a menu with more vegetarian / vegan options.

Other worldly! Most gorgeous little hotel I've ever stayed at! And that's saying a lot!

I have always been passionate about learning and embracing the local culture whenever I travel and Hotel Tugu brought me the perfect balance between Western commodity and Indonesian Traditions The staff was genuine and friendly and they made sure all our stay was special and unique. From the setup for the breakfast on the outside area to the afternoon tea on the raised bed in the garden area it was all perfectly planned and executed. On our second night we had the pleasure to enjoy dinner while watching a Traditional Balinese dance performance. It was interesting to see such performance while enjoying some delicious traditional food in the majestic entrance hall. They also have a delicious Japanese restaurant next door with an amazing decoration and an original Chinese temple surrounding the tables area that was impressive. The Hotel is walking distance to the beach where we walked to see the sunset and see the surfers catching some waves while enjoying our Balinese coffee. Our room was on the upper floor with a beautiful view over the ocean and the most comfortable king size bed I have ever slept in. The room was completely filled with vintage and local items and a traditional bath tube for a late evening bath after exploring Canggu area. The swimming pool made the perfect spot for my girlfriend to read a book and sunbath. On our last night it happened to be my birthday and the hotel staff surprised me over dinner with a delicious birthday cake.

We stayed for 2 nights and we're completely amazed by the special atmosphere of the Tugu Hotel Bali. This small museum of Indonesian art and history left us mesmerized. The lovely staff of the hotel made us feel at home and bringing hospitality to the next level. Our suite was wonderful, on the second floor with a huge Balinese style tub and great ocean view. Very rustic appearance, but with all modern conveniences and a very romantic and confy bed beautifully crafted. The natural beauty of the property gardens make it beautiful during the day and enchanting at night. We enjoyed the lush breakfast, with a wide variety of freshly made juices, that could be served anytime and anywhere we wanted. Every Thursday night the hotel has a cultural evening, with traditional dances what allowed us to know a little bit better the Balinese culture.
