It’s an excellent trip by all means. Staying at the Rajbari, savoring the royal food, enjoying the musical & cultural moments, soaking in the history of Murshidabad & above all — getting pampered by the Roys who are great hosts.
It’s a must visit — for a great bonding & unwinding experience!
The Rajbari is very well located for exploring Murshidabad and surrounding areas. However, if the objective of the establishment is to provide you a place to explore Murshidabad from, it is overpriced. What would certainly make the price worthwhile would be the ability to enjoy the property itself. And this is where it falls short. Although the quality of the rooms are fine and the staff try their best (but aren’t trained), it is difficult to spend time in the property itself — there are no arrangements for sitting down and lounging about, the dining room is stuck at one end and Is open to the public as a general restaurant, thereby diluting any privacy that residents of the Rajbari would expect to enjoy, the flooring, window frames etc are not appropriate for the history that the Rajbari clearly has and the grounds at the back are very poorly maintained.
Perhaps I came in with different expectations, but if you end up with what is effectively a hotel, it is better to stay in a hotel.

A wonderful trip… very thoughtfully planned out. Excellent ambience and hospitality. The stay at the rajbari, the grandeur of the rooms, the old world charm of cossimbazar… and the personal touch of pallab Roy and his family… we enjoyed every minute of it!
