Review of Hyatt Regency Chennai 5*

Very unpleasant experience with Hyatt Regency, though I wasn't staying there. On 21st Nov 2013, a friend of mine (who was part of a group) was staying in a certain room, and had asked me to call him at a certain time to pick him up. He is from Holland, and doesn't have a phone of his own. I called up Hyatt and asked for his room no (1024), but was refused connection, proclaiming that `there is no guest by the name you mention', by one Ms. Chandvi. (The joke is, I was connected on two previous occasions without any problems). I tried to explain to her for about 10 minutes, to convince her — that he was part of a group and it might be a group reservation; that I had visited him in his room many times during the previous week, and hence was convinced of room no. I offered her the compromise — call the room and check with the guest before connecting. Nothing was heard. The irritating `there is no guest by the name you mention' was repeated about 15 times. I was connected to the duty manager (name not noted, unfortunately) who took my mobile no, and promised to resolve — NEVER DONE ANYTHING. I again called in the afternoon — different operator. And Lo! I was connected to the room and spoke to my friend. After an hour I called, and again the same reply — `there is no guest by the name you mention'. This time, the duty manager too refused to talk to me. 1. I wonder if they'd treat me the same, if I was a VIP 2. Hyatt doesn't have uniformity among operators / front office regarding connecting phone calls 3. Hyatt made sure that the guest doesn't talk to me, missing out on an important phone call. (I finally had to send a mail to him to call me back, which he did after 15 precious minutes, making us late for an appointment). 4. None never called me back in the number I provided — no follow up, and no sense of responsibility. 5. Those who stay in Hyatt beware — you may become unreachable, with the irritating `there is no guest by the name you mention'.
