Somit Paying Guest House Guesthouse

Somit is doing a great job trying to support the poor kids in Varanasi by running a small school. While this is really nice, the guesthouse itself can be a difficult experience for the European traveler. We took the most expensive room they had. This was very poorly equipped and improvised. The bathroom was very small, with the shower in the middle of it, not separated in any way (not even a shower curtain) from the toilet. The food they serve is ok and the boat tour is very likely among the cheapest you can get in Varanasi.

We spent a few days here, our room is cozy and clean. Please note the AC rooms are on the 4th floor, but not an issue to us. We wished the Wi-Fi is very faster. Not sure about Somit’s community service, we didn’t participate in any.

This place is amazing. This is a nonprofit organization that really makes a difference to the underprivileged children's lives. They also provide backpackers with the best experience in Varanasi!

My boyfriend and I spent four amazing days at Somit's guest house. He is incredibly kind and warm hearted. Somit not only supports travellers during their experience in Varanasi but is also constantly giving back to the community with his free education centers. We always had a smile while at the guest house — everyone there was amazingly welcoming and made us feel truly comfortable. Thank you for everything Somit!

We had such a great time with Somit and the staff. They helped us with boat tours, city tour and yoga. We will never forget our stay at Somit Guest House.

I do work with children and I recognize somebody that love them and put effort to help their life. And in this place the dear Somit, that pretend to be the best open heart person, is just interested in money. It will not be a problem if this money will be used to actually give education to those children. For sure they seem to have lessons, but is the sister of Somit with another couples of young friend (I wonder which kind of study of experience they have with children) that give lessons. So I supposed that they don't t have to pay them. Maybe they use money for pens and books? I didn't see any. We made some activities for children and we have to use our own material (not a problem, but this make me wonder where this money goes). I didn't feel in a family as everybody say and write in commentaries. All conversations were empty, with no soul, without any real interest to know us. That s why we preferred to stay outside, having conversation with locals instead that with the. For sure they wanted to sell us their "tour". I will not call it tour, it was a wonder with this China that gave us some random, not really storical informations. I took a Hindi lesson, the first day the teacher that was supposed to come didn't arrive. The day after I asked again and it comes that the teacher could not come and Somit'sister will give me my """ lesson""". Difficult to learn a new language when the person in front of you doesn't know English properly and doesn't answer to your questions.

A great place, Sommit and his family will make you feel like home, the cooking clases are great to learn about the Indian culture, they also have great volunteering programs teaching English in their school. Really recommend it.
