Arnarstapi Cottages

Cottage is very basic and rustic. Some cottages have parking in front, others do not. The bed was fine but the pillows were paper thin with one per person. Bathroom was clean but needed some tending to. Pictures look great online vs in person. If you’re looking for a decent location that is a bit budget friendly, the cottages are fine. Just expect a rustic look experience.

Arnarstapi Cottages in Arnarstapi are absolutely beautiful and incredibly romantic. I stayed here while traveling through Iceland, and it was the perfect spot to unwind and take in the natural beauty around me. The cottages are modern yet cozy, with amazing views right outside your window—perfect for watching the northern lights dance across the sky. The location couldn’t be better, right near the Arnarstapi cliffs, the Snæfellsjökull National Park, and close to Hellnar. Waking up to the sunrise over the lava fields and ocean was magical. This place feels peaceful, private, and truly unforgettable—a must-stay for anyone exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Cottages were comfy and it was nice that the weather was good enough to sit outside on the patio. It would be easier if it was possible to park the car at the cottage though. Depending on where your cottage lies the way from the car park with a heavy suitcase can become quite long… Especially when it rains.
Diner at the Arnarstapi center was rather underwhelming. Breakfast was better but it is not included in the price and you have to pay extra.

Only speaking for the cabbins not sure if the hotels are the same. This place is incredibly picturesque, but very bare-bones. Its not geothermaly powered so the hot water does run out. They only give you one pillow. Breakfast costs like $35 USD. Its clean and well kept, but for the price I guess I was expecting a little more maybe a skylite in the cabin or something. If you've stayed in a cabin in any state park in pacific north west of America its essentially the same though they cost like $75 usd a night.

Nice hotel/cottage. Reception was great. We stayed in cottage 13. The path to our cottage had a lot of birds around it. I was attacked twice! Darn birds ruined my sweatshirt! They should really put up a warning sign.
Regardless of the birds, the room was lovely, comfortable and the view was amazing. Staff helped me with getting hypoallergenic bedding and pillows. There is a fridge, microwave and kettle in the room.
* beautiful place to stay, however there are only 3 restaurants! No grocery stores there.

Stayed at the Arnarstapi cottages one night on our way to Olafsvik. The cottages had a great view for Northern Lights. Dinner and breakfast at the restaurant was really good. The cottage was warn and cozy and we will definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

The cottages are so cool and chill enjoyed it very much, beds are comfortable, could be 3 pillows or 4 but 2 were fine, no TV but that did not matter because, we had our MacBook👌. Very calm and quite, do recommend driving around Snæfellsjökul, veryyyy nice views, nice parking with no attacking birds🦅, the toilet door is a bit crooked so hard to close, did not expirience any hot water running out as you should not sing in the shower, the service ladies were very 🙌 🤩 awesome and super good as the radiator worked very well and if we wanted it to be colder we could turn it of so that was nice. The hot water lasted 10minutes and 24 seconds! Wich was surprisingly long according to all the bad reviews!

Beautiful and nice cottages! Yesterday we were able to see the northern lights just above the cottages, what a beautiful experience!

Very cute cottages. Romantic and quiet with great views. They are spread apart so you aren't close to your neighbors. Nice little town with 3-4 places to eat, although everything is pricey like the rest of Iceland. Beautiful views. The hot water doesn't last long though so shower quick!

At Adventures Overland, we had a great experience booking Arnarstapi Cottages for our customers. During our stay with a group of travelers, everyone enjoyed the breathtaking display of the Auroras. Located in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula region of Iceland, the cottages are comfortable and cozy, with a bonus of a room with an ocean view. The staff was friendly and cooperative, ensuring a fantastic experience for our group.

Small basic rooms. Good enough for a night. Depending on which unit you get it can be a little walk down the gravel path to your unit. Would be nice to have a fan in the room. The floor was still a little wet from the previous cleaning between clients. A fan would help dry it out.

From the outside, the cottages look very luxurious. From the inside, unfortunately, they are not really. There is no TV, no small table, the toilet lid was broken, the sheet torn. Hot water was available for 10 minutes, then it was over. When you take a shower, everything in the bathroom is flooded. It was very bright in the room despite the curtains.
You have to walk to the cottages, but you are attacked by the birds that nest there (it is currently breeding season). I personally find it a pity that you have to build something like this right there, for the birds it is certainly stressful. We were allowed to drive with the car directly to our cottage, because the birds defend their territory really aggressive — although you are not allowed otherwise.
Also the view is not really nice, you look at the road and the few surrounding restaurants. It looks much better on the Google photos.
The breakfast was okay. At 9 o'clock almost everything is gone or cold.

I don’t recommend staying here. Don’t waste your money.
1. We are not allowed to park next to the cottage. When walking from parking lot back to the cottage we were attacked by 4 birds and almost needed to turn back to the car!
2. Room temperature was too hot and there was no way to adjust it. If we open the door the flies keep coming in.
3. Shower tub was way too slippery. I slipped and triggered my back injury unfortunately. Do they have the liability?
4. Was half way through the shower and realized that the bathroom would not drain! Water started flooding over the whole bathroom. Instead of sending us a new room key they asked us to get our luggage out and drive back to the reception. (Our hair still wet and now we have to dry and pack to move again).

Nice set up with multiple cottages on one side of the road (further from the water) and the hotel on the other side (closer to the water). If view is important to you, then the hotel might have better access to water view as some of the cottages probably look at the buildings of the hotel. Luckily my cottage was at the east end (room 11) so my window had an unobstructed view of the water, and my door could see the hotel/water as well.
Check in is at the Arnarstapi Center (where the restaurant is) and that’s also where you park your car. It’s a short 1-2 min walk to your cottage. But you are allowed to drive up to your cottage to unload luggage before parking your car a bit further.
The inside is basic but lights were functional. Kettle, microwave, and mini fridge. We didn’t want to eat at the restaurant so bought a sandwich before coming here and microwaved it to heat it up. Would be nice if they provided basic utensils and plates.
I had no problems with Wi-Fi as some others have had. Fast connection, could watch Netflix. It is true there is limited hot water (~5 min) but my partner and I just showered 1 hour apart at the end of the night. Both had hot water and with the expectation it would be short lived.
It’s nearby to the trail by the waterfront including the stone bridge which was pretty. I would stay here again if I drove into the peninsula again.
