During the summer, you're really just dealing with a horde of twenty-somethings partially running a hotel. We sat in the lobby for four hours waiting on our rooms to be turned over. Two hours of this was spent watching the entire staff gather for a team meal just a few feet away from us. Not only was it obvious that no one was cleaning rooms during this time, it was also a disappointment to watch others enjoy a delicious meal while we were sitting there with our bags. A simple gesture of inviting us to join their lunch (of which there were plenty of leftovers) would have created tons of goodwill and bought them several hours of patience. It would also have represented the definition of hospitality, which happens to be the profession of everyone at the hotel.

Very clean room and helpful staff. They made our stay so easy. The location is perfect if you are looking for great dining options and some shopping. The small bar downstairs was always friendly as were the staff and customers.

Staying at Skuggi hotel was a very pleasant stay. The rooms were clean and looked modern. The bathroom was also clean and had a pleasant shower. The service was kind and quickly helped us. The hotel also offers free Wi-Fi and a large selection breakfast in the morning. Next to this the hotel is very close to all the shops and restaurants. I did enjoy my stay at Skuggi and would recommend anyone to stay here.

Cheerful and helpful staff. Comfortable room with blackout shades (it doesn't really get dark here this time of year). Great Scandinavian breakfast spread. Right next to a major city bus plaza. Very convenient to downtown. A great choice. Only complaint is that the modern looking toilet paper holder let's the roll fall on the floor very easily. Quite a minor thing.

The hotel itself is nice and modern. Room is a bit small but it’s fine if you’re staying overnight. Room is also well heated, which is really good during winter. Location is relatively okay depending on the season you’re staying. If you’re visiting during winter, you might want to be closer to the main city. We stayed here during winter, and it’s always an adventure going to the main part of the city. The distance is fine, it’s the snow and ice on the road that you’ll encounter. Food is good. Breakfast buffet is great especially if you don’t want to walk on snow and ice early in the morning looking for food. Staff were nice. However, there were times that it felt that service and amenities cannot be provided because we didn’t book the more expensive room. We’re not looking for free stuff, we don’t mind paying if needed but they just say nope, it’s not included in your room. Oh, they did provide shampoo and soap when we requested (but isn’t it that provided in most hotels? ). The verdict: Our stay was relatively okay. However, we’ll probably stay at another hotel if we go back to Reykjavík.

I had a really nice stay here with my wife. We made a winter trip to Iceland because the airfare was cheaper and it was a great trip overall. This hotel is well located next to lots of great restaurants like Nostra which was simply amazing. As an English-speaking Canadian, I particularly found the service welcoming and we were happy that there was English TV options.

Had drinks at this hotel during their happy hour. Nice place, helpful staff, convenient location. Nice selection of alcoholic and soft drinks too. They were also playing some great tunes when we went.

I absolutely loved staying at this hotel. The rooms were perfect. Super clean, modern kind of design. The showers are freaking amazing. The staff is soo friendly and above and beyond nice. They have complimentary breakfast which was great everyday especially because the food's kinda pricey in iceland so its nice to have one meal you don't have to worry about. I'd recommend this hotel to any traveler who has the budget, it's right in the middle of downtown where there's a bunch of cool things really close.

Clean, comfortable room equipped with Kettle, TV and hair dryer. My room had a shower rather than a bath and a wet room style lay out. Location is excellent — close to shops, bars etc. Friendly staff and a fantastic breakfast buffet. I wish they would have told me you need the key card to operate the lights in the room as I would not have spent five minutes stumbling around in the dark before I worked it out myself. Décor all greys so not really my thing but modern and elegant looking. Over all a good experience of this hotel.

The hotel is very convenient to the city centre which is a very short walk away. Staff were very friendly, extremely helpful and informative. Their reccomendations for local restaurants were spot on too. The room was modern and kept spotless. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of variety. Would thoroughly recommend.

Really well located hotel. Nice lobby with a private bar, lounge and eating area. Rooms are small but they're the perfect size for the type of trip. Really modern rooms with English TV, heating, desk, clothes rail and shelves, cleaning service and good shower room. Friendly staff and I highly recommend this hotel, really good for couples. Also good tip is that happy hour in this hotel is 17:00-19:00 so drinks are cheaper as the price for a pint of beer in Iceland is roughly £9.

This hotel is great. Rooms were well sized (for Iceland). Beds and pillows were super comfortable — I wish I had them at home. I expected rooms to be cold in Iceland but with the geothermal heat, rooms were always toasty. The shower was a walk in (no curb or barrier) and the rain shower head devine. Actual counter space on bath counter, which is really rare in Iceland and Europe. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were helpful at getting tours set up and finding out if northern lights tours were running that night (weather dependent). Reception staffed 24 hours a day (not always typical) so there was someone to greet all when coming in late from northern lights tours or leaving very early for the airport. Breakfast consisted of a buffet much larger in selection than most hotels. The eggs (real scrambled eggs) were tasty and the pastries devine — especially mini chocolate croissants. Fresh fruit available too. The hotel is also located one block off the main street and near lots of good restaurants — an easy walk. I simply cannot say enough about Hotel Skuggi.

Friendly service, great breakfast selection, modern and spacious, contemporary rooms (not too hot! ), fantastic location: not even a five minute walk to the main shopping street and also right on the pier with beautiful views of Icelandic mountains and a lake. Also under an hour from the airport. Very happy with this and would definitely stay again.

Helpful front desk attendants and smooth check in process. Depending on your reservation, breakfast might be included, which includes a buffet of various pastries, fruit, cereal, bread, meats and cheese. If it not much extra in cost for you, I would recommend adding it due to the cost of food in Iceland. It's hard not to spend about $30+ USD on a meal for 2 people. The rooms are normal hotel accommodations with a comfortable bed, nightstands, television, and phone. One thing to note, bring a converter for your electronics, there are no plugs like we have in the US. If you forget, the front desk might have one you can borrow, but during busy parts of the year you might be out of luck. Or if you have more than 1 person wanting to charge at once you will want to have more.

Great free breakfast a bonus considering the cost of food in Iceland, free underground parking, clean rooms, good location for walking the city, friendly staff.

Great location. Only a few minutes walk to centre of reyjakivic. Beautiful rooms in immaculate condition. Breakfast excellent with all you could want. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to reyjakivic. The Hotel staff are extremely helpful and polite. I would definitely stay here again. 100%

Elegant, cozy, and clean rooms. Minutes away from a 24/7 convenience store and 15 minutes away from the famous hot dog stand. The hotel was very modern and was fairly quiet. Rooms were always cleaned properly. Breakfast buffet was amazing. Tons of choices for food and beverages and always left feeling full. Customer service was excellent as well.

Great hotel well located near city centre. Staff are very friendly, rooms are spotlessly clean. Great breakfast. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

My room was small but very nice and very clean, the bed is very firm. The bar downstairs is top notch and the complimentary breakfast is the best I have ever had. The only negative thing has been that the top shower head in my room was broken and I could only shiwer using the wand.

The service was very good and friendly. And the rooms were very neat and clean. The mattress was a little soft, though.

Really good hotel close to the main area of Reykjavik. Breakfast is smaller than other places, and the rooms are quite small, but was a good place. No temp controls to be found so you are at the mercy of the room.

Good location within walking distance to restaurants and sites in town. About a block and a half walk to the bus stop where the travel buses pick you up. New law says the buses cannot stop in front of hotels anymore.

Very nice hotel. Rooms are a bit small (at least by American standards), but very clean and modern. Also, breakfast is included in the price of the room, which is actually a fantastic deal. Hotel is in a fantastic location and easy walking distance to restaurants and shopping. If I came here again, I would definitely stay at Skuggi.

Loved everything about this place because it was super cozy and clean. Breakfast buffet was the best. 4 stars only because I found the lighting inside the rooms too dim so it was hard to look for things. Other than that, it was great.

My husband and I stayed here for a week in December 2015 for our first trip to Iceland and it was just delightful! The staff was so incredibly kind and helpful. The entire hotel is beautiful. The rooms are extremely cozy and the location is perfect. You can walk all over town so easily from it. When we plan our next trip to Iceland I know where we'll be staying again!

Beautiful hotel and the hospitality is great. Free breakfast in the morning. It is a new hotel so everything is clean and up to date. They have a small bar as well in the lobby. The location is only a 15min walk down to the main city and the church, which isn't so bad if you want to explore.

First off… I absolutely loved their breakfast! Everything was fresh and there were multiple options to choose from. The hotel was extremely clean, and the front desk was more that helpful with every questions I had. The location is wonderful… just a minute away from the main shopping street and less than a few minutes (walking) from multiple museums and the top sites to see. I definitely recommend Skuggi to everyone.

Writing this as I wait in the lobby to check out. The hotel has an excellent location — a 2 minute walk both from the shore walkway as well as the main downtown street. Good thing is I was able to walk to all the places that were happening, but come back to peace and quiet. Some rooms open up to a balcony and that's nice to have when the weather is nice. The furnishings seem to be very Scandinavian in character. Ultimately it's the people that make a hotel experience and that's where this hotel shines. Inge, the lady who checked me in, also got me reservations at the coolest little restaurant, made a list of nice bars and also called up a friend of hers who was a doorman so I wouldn't stand in line. This is besides her charging my phone, making my bus reservations and so on. I travel a lot and have never seen such a personalized experience. The pleasant experience continues today as Chus and Ganti replace Inge in providing the same level of service. As someone who travels a lot and has status in multiple chains, I never expected to be this impressed by a small independent hotel in Reykjavik.
