Stunning. Smaller version of the Paris Opera House. The Hungarian States Opera House is currently under renovation, scheduled to be completed in Jan. 2019. The Opera house tour was unable to access the performance hall due to the renovations. In lieu of that we were given a live performance while seated on the steps by 2 incredible opera singers. It was amazing how their voices filled the space without any microphones just as these ladies would perform in the large opera house. The architect of the Opera house also designed St Stephen's Basilica which is located nearby.

A lovely building. The tour is very short and you can't see the inside of the main theater because it's being renovated (that's why only four stars). They end the tour with a performance by some members of the company which is great fun.

Directly on the spot you can book a guided tour in your chosen language. Great theatre and very glitzy. The guided tour takes about 40 minutes and you can visit the central hall, the stands and some rooms. At the end of the visit you can attend a short live concert.

Fantastic Renaissance-style palace designed by Miklós Ybl, the Budapest Opera House, inaugurated in 1884, has known great directors in the image of Ferenc Erkel or Gustave Mahler. Temple of ballet, opera and classical music, the institution has lost nothing of its brilliance… You have to come to a performance, unforgettable!

Beautiful Theatre but very short visit (only Staircase and theatre bar) due to the restoration they are performing in the main hall. Nice mini concert at the end of the visit. Cost too high.

Accessibility conspicuous in their absence. There is a possibility that no one will explain in Spanish any detail. Don't go if you don't speak English or Hungarian.

The wonderful building, but do not be deceived the operas are not done there, is elsewhere and nobody Tr says anything.

An unfathomably grand building, suddenly emerges from the blocks of houses. This structure attracts you in such a way that you can just walk around for minutes and still not have enough. The overall facility and the details are absolutely fantastic. Of course, Friedrich Liszt or as he is called Liszt Ference in Hungarian should not be missing as a statue. Absolutely worth seeing, definitely go and preferably also in.

Unforeseen visit unfortunately made at the no-race. But the place is beautiful. To visit when the concert hall will be reopened after the renovation work.

You can visit the inside with guide in Italian. The theatre is a gem and you can watch a mini-show of about 10 minutes with the lyric singers. Affordable cost. During the Christmas period, from the terrace you can admire the avenue fully lit.

The Hungarian State Opera is located in the VI District of Budapest (Terezvarosh), in Pest, at the address: Andrassy Avenue 22. The building of the theatre was sustained in the style of Renaissance and built by the architect Miklos getting in the period between 1875 and 1884, richly decorated with baroque ornaments, sculptures and paintings. Especially interesting is the mural painting of the work of Bertalana Sekeja, Mora Tana and Karo Lotz along the staircases inside the building and in the auditorium.

The Hungarian State Opera House is one of the most beautiful in the world. In front of its building there are monuments Ferenc leaf and Ferenc Jerkelju. The theatre is also the main stage for the Hungarian National Ballet.

Take the tour and if the stars align and you're lucky, you'll dance with the most beautiful opera singer in all of Hungary. The four arias at the end of the tour are something you see once in a lifetime.

Beautiful building worth visiting. I highly recommend taking a tour, it’s affordable and interesting and you can see many private rooms that are normally inaccessible (including the royal seat). It takes about 40 minutes plus another ten minutes if you see the “concert” at the end (worth it). Tours are available in English, Spanish, Japanese and other languages (check the schedule to see when languages are offered).

The building itself is very impressive. It is recommended to get a guided tour which cost around £9 as the guide will talk you through the history of the building which is very interesting. Inside of the Opera House is covered in gold and marble and the paintwork on the ceiling is simply astonishing. Would recommend as a tourist must see.

Very beautiful authentic Hungarian building. There are many cafes, restaurants and trendy brand shops nearby. Close to Metro station.

It's very interesting and pretty. Only now he's in construction and we didn't know. We paid the entrance along with the mini concert and they showed us the works. Too bad for not telling.

All connoisseurs of classical music, opera is the number 1 place in Budapest, very beautiful architecture, murals on the ceilings, mosaic, when I went into the middle of the building I could not take my eyes off the walls, ceiling and floor, it is so beautiful, on certain days there is tours on different Languages and even can get on a good presentation for not a big bag HUF.

Spectacular building, absolutely amazing architecture with full of details and art pieces. It's worth to do a tour of the Opera house, starting at 14.00, 15.00 and 16.00 daily. You could gain lots of information about the history of the building, how it built, who was the key persons of the Opera house, the decoration, art pieces, royal box etc. Such a pleasant visit.

Magnificent Hungarian opera which we recommend the guided tour in French. The guide spoke very well the language, with some jokes and on a good pace of visit, nothing to say. Many Frenchmen that day, they separated the group in two, with two guides. Really well organized.
The places are beautiful although some few places are still in slight renovation (they are on the end). You will have a complete view of the indoor room, the stairs, the fireplaces and lounges nearby. It is hard to imagine that we are still talking about "work" in this October — November 2017.
We did not do the mini-concert because we had already heard the voice of the singer twice (when taking our tickets in advance and when waiting for the start of the tour). It doesn't last long and it looks more like a tourist bonus than anything else. But if you like opera voices for a few moments you will not be disappointed either, the voice that resonates in the entrance of the opera (it is not on stage) is beautiful and enchants you.

Nothing to envy to the other theater. Just splendid. Luxurious and refined.

Nice visit to the opera. It's impressive how nice the opera hall is. I took the tour in Spanish and the guy's Spanish was very good!

The opera house is for sure one of the recommend places to visit in Budapest. Its very rich decorated interior with finest wood work, tapestry and pictures is carefully renovated and gives an telling impression of the wealth and status the city during the late 19th century.

Bought tickets to see two ballets. Highly recommend the Swan Lake but didn't like the modern adaptation of The Wooden Prince. Loved the luxurious interiors of the opera house!

The Hungarian State Opera is an absolutely sublime space both from a decorative and acoustic point of view.
Take the time to attend a mini concert in the language of your choice.
The only downside remains in the facade of the building denatured by pollution, for the rest I totally adored.

Visited in today's day the work of Budapest. I did not expect so much pomp in the furnishings and I was very fascinated. The Italian speaking guide met my expectations very well. Definitely worth seeing.

Beautiful building both exterior and interior. Impressive wall and ceiling paintings, gilding, stucco in the lobby and sculptures outside. It was a pity that rest of building was closed for reconstruction till 2018, so I wasn't able to enjoy the beauty and acoustics of the opera hall.

The building is beautiful! More than 100 years of history! It's just too expensive! If you have time, it's a pleasure to listen to an opera!

I'd love to sit down and listen to an opera. The Mini opera has only two songs that are familiar to everyone, and nothing counts.

The façade is nothing compared to the interiors: sumptuous, elegant, exaggerated. An opera house at the height of Vienna, decorated with marbles, inlays and gold leaf as if it rained. You only visit with the guide: there are in all languages, including Italian. The visit is a bit chaotic at first because the various guides in the different languages start all together, but all in all the tours are well organized and you can explore the theatre properly. For those who want, there is also the possibility to attend a mini concert.
