I have been to El Portal 7 times and now I bring friends there too. It is very welcoming and the food is delicious. People that complain on here are pussies that should not go there and ruin everyone else's fun. It is safe and it has clean showers and baños. It is ON the river and tubing is fun AF. Your dumbass phone probably won't work and they don't have Wi-Fi (yet). So if you love chirping birds, great food and bebidas fuerte… PLEASE BE A GUEST. Not a pest… Adios.

The stay was very good I'm not complaining about anything and good price.

A very beautiful and eco-friendly hotel, the only critical Q I would make is about the rooms are very small compared to the pictures they show.

Good considering location, please note that you are only 10 minutes walk from the hotel to the pools. Make the most of it. I don’t think you need a guild, just take a padlock with you to lock you gear. Lockers under the cover area. Everyone sits on them.

Lovely place Very Good service everything worth is a natural view never able to say no, Thank God all Salio Bien and we passed it to the maximum and actually an unforgettable experience the viewpoint has its tiredness, but the force is worth in bellezer the view… Lodging at 99.9% only the restaurant area caution with dangerous children are altitude more than 75 meters height much caution please…
Everything deserves a 100 but they need to seal that danger to children…

Unfortunately they think they can simply ignore you. There are many more welcoming and nicer places around. Try to avoid it, it's not worthy it.

Surtounded by nature. Electricity only in the evening and at night. In the rainy weather bedclothes and everything were damp. Short way to Semuc Champey. If you are looking for comfortable accomodation, this is not the place for you. If you want some nature activity, this is the place for you.

Amazing place, at the door of Semuc Champey! It is a very beautiful ecological Hostel and from all its facilities you can see the same celestial river that are part of the attractive Semuc Champey. Being an eco-friendly Hostel, it should be borne in mind that there are a few hours in which electricity is provided (mostly to organize with charging batteries of cameras). It has no Wi-Fi, it is an ideal place to disconnect. The price is very good, not at all expensive. Although it does not have a kitchen, the on-site offers lunch, breakfast and dinner at very affordable prices. The rooms are nice and cozy and the cleanliness is good. There are dormitories and doublerooms with and without bathroom, the showers are cold water. On-site they work with cards and also accept dollars. And includes transport from Lankin to the portal and vice versa, it should be noted that getting to the Semuc Champey is not easy on the roads, so the road takes about 40 minutes in the box of a van (this part is not so cozy, but it's worth it). Highly recommended! The people who work on site are very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Can't expect too much considering this is deep within the country of Guatemala. The staff are very nice however and provide as much service as they can for you. There is NO Wi-Fi and NO HOT WATER so keep that in mind when booking this place. Location wise, its basically right next door to Semuc Champay and you can easily walk to the various sites within this area.

A nice place with a familiar and rustic touch. For lovers of nature and tranquility. It is also in the center of the city. In a house that has been classified as a cultural heritage of Guatemala.

This place is super smooth by the river, close to Semuc Champey. Nice view, goodigood food and cool staff.

Beautiful place, river front, very nice, helpful and funny staff and they are very good dancer too! The closest place to semuc champey. You have electricity from 6:00pm to 11:00pm and it's enough. No Wi-Fi. You don't have a big selection of food, but it's good.

Good room/dorm prices, 1 minute walking to Semuc. Restaurant is a bit pricey with small food selection. You can camp here with access to Cahabon's river.

This is a bare minimum accomodation. For less than $9 American for each of us, 3 in our group, we can a place to rest walking distance from Semuc Champey. Our room was a second story open air room. Think camping with a bed. No power outlets in the room, but they'll gladly charge any device you want at the bar. Showers were cold, but functional and clean. If you're someone who can't sleep outdoors, look elsewhere. Wouldn't recommend this as a multi night stay, but a great way to be close to the hike early in the morning and spend the most time at the lagoon.

Big + first of all; after I left El Portal, I've noticed that I forgot a few important things at my room. The staff of el Portal did an incredibly good job, they've sent my electronic equipment on the next day with their driver to my hostel 300 km away in Antigua for free! Thank you also for having such a great time at your Hostel. It's a wonderful place.

Location is best for entering the park. The staff is super friendly. No hot shower though.

Best location to go into the semuc champey park by yourself. Food and drinks very expensive. No internet connection therefore booked or checked your next stop before getting here.

This is about a 3 minute walk from Semuc Champey, a really great location. It's 50q for a dorm room. There is no hot water, or Wi-Fi and power is limited for a few hours in the evening. The food in the restaurant is fine but a bit on the expensive side. It's good for a few nights but really got are here for Semuc.

Beautiful place right next to Semuc Champey. No Wi-Fi and no power for most of the day (6pm-10pm only) BUT you don't need it. You should be taking in the beautiful surroundings. Food was really great and dorms were nice and clean. The drive here is crazy but well worth it, highly recommend this place.

A good eco hotel, very near the sanctuary Semuc Champey, bungalows, food, the environment, the truth is better to stay.

Went there in 2012 (sorry for lateness) and it was a blast. Rustic hostel in the middle of the Guatemalan jungle, so it's not going to have comforts of a western hostel. But it was quiet, authentic, laid-back, with good food and a fun evening social scene. When we went, there must've been ~35 people hanging out in the bar at night. A tarantula wandered in from the jungle and everyone had a great time passing him around on each other's arms. Very fun stay.

Beautiful Hostel tucked away in the jungle. A few minutes walk from both Semuc Champey and the caves. Awesome staff and great prices for the food in the restaraunt. I spent three days there and loved every minute of it.

I would recommend el portal to everyone! the location is perfect and the staff is friendly. I wasn't crazy about sharing my room with insects and critters but it's still a fun place to stay.

No Wi-Fi, no Movistar access, gorgeous location.
