Honest review follows:
We've booked our stay almost 2 months in advance. Therefore, only 8 days before our holiday they've cancelled our booking! We've been told that the hotel will remain closed, and that the owner sold the buissness.
As a result we got very upset, as we couldn't find any other alternative hotels for our stay; thus, inevitably we had to cancel our trip to Portaria. The worst part of our tremendous experience was that we had to chace them for over 3 weeks to get our deposit back, which finaly got back just before we were about to consult the hellenic police for some guidance. It was a nightmare basically.

Great location and service, lovely and kind people and beautiful surroundings. Price was very reasonable for a two day stay trip for two people (breakfast included). Would definitely recommend!

At the centre of Portaria, you get this cute hotel like everything else in Portaria. What I liked best is the beds that are comfortable and the polite staff if the hotel (the woman at the front desk and the breakfast woman) the breakfast included many nice cakes.

This Hotel is in the heart of Makrinitsa. Everything is great. Service is great. Older genesis very helpful. Just be careful getting in garage. Its a bit tight.

We enjoy it suitable for big families.
It is 15 m from the parking.
So you need to take all luggage down.
Alementary breakfast with good pastry.
The owner is very helpfull and was taking care of any requests.

Extremely hot inside, no air conditioner. My Fitbit Sense sais I had +3.1 degree Celsius (versus my baseline) core temperature at peaks. This means 39 degree Celsius. This can be harmful for your health. The view is very nice though.

Small rooms, terrible sound-proofing, simple breakfast, too price compared to actual four star hotels in the area, some rooms have no view. L, most activities were unavailable, Wi-Fi did not work during the whole stay. Would definitely not recommend.

The view was astounding. The rooms were good, they matched the pictures, the lobby is calming and makes you feel like you are at home, there, the staff allows you to play board games there like chess that they provided. Breakfast is very rich and it’s homemade. The village the hotel is located in is beautiful, it has a lot of shops, such as restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, bakeries and so much more. The best thing; the staff. Extremely friendly and welcoming. The only problems is that there is no ac, and it gets very hot in the summer, the parking is hard to find and the Wi-Fi doesn’t work : (

Yesterday we arrived at Portaria around 3PM and it was so hot outside around 37degrees and 40 degrees in Volos.
We left our car in a public parking at 1minute distance from the lodging.
It was very easy to found the small family house and Mario who welcomed us with cold water, fruits and pomegranate juice.
The house has 2 floors with rooms to rent and 1semi-basement for their internal use. Yes, it is an old house, but very well mentained and all the spaces are very, very clean.
Children's pleasure was the front door that has the funniest opening system and the arrangement of common spaces are like a story for kids.
We booked 3 rooms for us and our friends and we've stayed in a double room no1 at the last floor.  
The rooms are kept in the traditional style with a bathroom with a small shower.   I saw many comments about the shower and although we are very tall people the shower was the best.
Even it was very hot outside we've slept very well, the mattress and pillows are very comfortable and I have a lot of back problems.
Considering that it is a protected area, there is no air conditioning but we did not feel the need for air conditioning even at these high temperatures.
Breakfast was delicious and more than enough.

I arrived at the Lotus Tree as a traveler and left a family behind. The owners Yannis and Christina, the very special Effie and Dimitra, these are wonderful hosts. I will never forget the hospitality and Lilli and the beautiful lotus tree will remain imprinted in my memory forever. The only, and this is due to my physical ability that was a slight problem, was the pathway to get to and from the entrance to the main road.

Nice stone house. Wonderful view. For one night or two definitely fits. It seems that there is not responsible for this role, at least while we are there (still outside the burning season). We had to ask neighbors to call someone …
