Amazing location in the suburbs of the city, in the forest where you can spot deer with babies below your windows. Big parking lot, super nice staff. Nice room, matching the nature around. Breakfast for 13 EUR/person really great, huge variety of choices and a gluten free bread is available upon request. Hotel restaurant with a beautiful terrac le and a forest view, bowling in the hotel area. Possibility to rent a bike.
The only thing we disliked was the rickety bed — your own moves wake you up.

I first found this place several years ago pre-Covid, and was delighted to see it still open. Cottbus might not be the obvious place to go to for a break but it has a beautiful old town, very nice parklands, a military aerodrome now a museum, and is very close to the largely traffic-free cycling trails which run for miles around. Don't miss the Old Town, the architecture is lovely and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants. Cottbus is the kind of place you don’t tell people about because you don’t want it discovered!
Although the Waldhotel is located a little way outside the centre of Cottbus, it is surrounded by pine trees on all sides so feels much more rural than it is. The hotel is cyclist — and walker-friendly and can arrange cycle hire. The rooms were decorated almost entirely in natural wood, with a warm feel. There is a good variety at the breakfast and the evening meals were very generous, and good quality. If you are heading off cycling they will make you a packed lunch for a small fee, although we used the nearby Lidl for provisions and then filled up at dinner in the evenings.
The only slight niggle was a part of one of our meals wasn’t served one night and still didn’t arrive after we chased it. However, they did have a shortage of staff on that day and we were happy to overlook it as at all other times everyone was very helpful and friendly. This is the third time I have stayed here and I will be going again.
