Saving on lodging only pays off if the commute into central Berlin doesn't burn through your savings on transit tickets. Take a close look at bedroom photos: make sure the room isn't in a basement, has a proper window, and has enough floor space to open a suitcase. Always check candid room photos taken by past guests.
