The Base Berlin ONE

A nice safe and quiet area, staff were very kind and helpful and the room was very clean and modern, it was an absolute bargain for being there 7 days too — some of the reviews threw us off but having been there a week we were very happy with our place. To other reviewers — really need to read the hotels messages as we were made well aware of front desk being closed by 8/9pm and that room service is an extra charge should you need it before we even arrived in Berlin so you can't blame the hotel for that, read and liaise with them before complaining on Google lol. Lovely place and would definitely return in the future.

We arrived at 11 am (check-in was at 3 pm). The receptionist kindly stored our luggage, knowing we would return late after sightseeing in Berlin. What they never told us is that the front desk closes at 8 pm. We came back around 9 pm and faced the following:
• Reception closed and no staff available.
• A self check-in machine that did not work.
• Our luggage locked in a staff-only room with no access for guests.
We had to ask another guest (who kindly waited with us for over an hour and a half) to call the so-called “emergency line. ” The response was useless: they said someone could only come the next day at 7 am, when we already had to leave at 5 am for our flight. They even claimed they had no idea where our luggage was.
In the end, I was forced to break the lock to retrieve our belongings — otherwise, we would have missed our flight.
The hotel never sent an email warning about the reception closing hours and didn’t even bother to place our luggage in the room assigned to us.
This was a frustrating, irresponsible, and unsafe experience:
• No staff anywhere to help.
• No way to contact anyone unless you have a European phone number.
• Poorly visible signs about reception closing hours.
• A completely useless “emergency” service.
If it hadn’t been for the kindness of another guest, we would have had to sleep in the lobby and lose our flight. Terrible management, zero hospitality, and zero responsibility.
I absolutely do not recommend this place.

It’s a new Building with very good facilities. The room is awesome, especially the bathroom with a great shower. Staff very friendly. Location of Pankow can be convenient depending your purpose being in Berlin. In the surrounding of the property you find good restaurants and ample shops. Even a big mall about 10 minutes walk away. 👍

The hotel was excellent. Everything was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room was nicely decorated. Breakfast was delicious, the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, and it’s very close to public transport. If I go back to Berlin, this hotel will be my only choice.

I lived at The Base for 10 months. What drew me there was the convenient location and the international staff and clientele. Staff went out of their way to help with any and all questions, including navigating the German bureaucracy for new arrivals. The rooms are compact and comfortable, and there are larger lounges on each floor in addition to a library and a game room. Many planned activities to meet new people or learn a new skill, but enough space to do your own thing. Really enjoyed getting to know the International staff and residents from all over the world.

This has been so far one of the best co living experiences I’ve had.
If you’re looking for a basic place to start your Berlin adventure, this spot will totally exceed your expectations. The rooms are cozy and the shared spaces are usually calm and not crowded. Love the interior design and aesthetic as well.
I have to mention the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! They assured that I was happy with the move in and stay. Thank you to Jessa, Gina and Vishnu for their great hospitality.

Came to stay at The Base for a week with my girlfriend.
We had a late flight so didn’t arrive until about 10.30pm. The reception was closed so we had been given a code to open the main door and then had to check in via a tablet with our details and then code a door key card for our room.
The computer told us we were staying in room 163 but when we looked for the room, the rooms only went up to 111, 211, 311 etc. With no sign to indicate where 163 was located whatsoever.
It must have taken us about half an hour to find out (from someone else) that the room was actually in an adjacent building which again wasn’t signposted or marked with any room numbers. Not the best start. We did email but never received a reply.
After this somewhat rocky start we got to our room and it was good and reasonably spacious. It had a kitchenette with a small stove and microwave plus a fridge, two small wardrobes for our clothes and a tv. The bathroom was decent with a giant shower head which made showering in the morning a real pleasure.
There is a gym on site but we only really looked in there once as we didn’t have time. It looked ok though.
It was very warm when we stayed there and with no air conditioning, we had to rely on opening windows to keep us cool. I assume not too many German hotels would have a/c anyway so can’t really complain about this but it was really hot.

My family booked three rooms. The amenities on site are great! We played games in the game room, we did laundry in the Laundry room, and we cooked a meal in the kitchen. There was Bachata dance lessons on the roof top, we did not get to attend but it sounds likes lots of fun! The workers are tremendously helpful, they lent us an umbrella when it was raining since we did not bring one with us. I would stay here again for sure!

I had a really nice stay here with you! From the moment I arrived, I felt at home. I've been living here for 3 months.
The studio had almost everything I needed, from the location to the facilities in the building!
Nothing failed—everything was perfect. I want to be honest with you… I was a little scared before arriving at the building because I tried to find information about The Base but couldn’t find much. In the end, I trusted in your page and photos, and I was so happy to see that everything you shared was real.
My studio was comfy, and the kitchenette was perfect (I wished I had maybe a blender or a coffee machine :) ), but I understand the situation.
The co-working area was perfect—I used it a lot for work. It was spacious, comfortable, and the seating was great. 👌
I don’t have any complaints about it, the building verything was perfect. I tried to leave the room as I received it 😇 and left some cleaning supplies that can be used by the company or perhaps by other guests.
All the staff were always very friendly and were always there to support. I would definitely rent the space again.
I do have two concerns, which may not be in your hands, but I hope you can do something about them for the future.
— The cleaning service in Rooms.
According to the email you sent us when the supplier changed, some listed tasks are not being carried out. I understand there are many rooms, but spending at least 30 minutes per room should be reasonable.

I stayed for quite a bit, and I think I wouldn't do so again — at least not for that long.
The buildings have so thin walls you're hearing everything from next to you, above you and I think below — if someone closes a kitchen drawer, you will hear it. And in late spring and summer, the rooms turn into a sauna.
The parties on the rooftop usually end by 10pm but the noise continues much longer — no one makes sure you actually stick to German law and the house rules. Many people that stay there act as if they think they own the building or have never been living in an apartment house before, so don't expect quiet times.
The apartment itself has what you need, bed is comfy, though who on earth wants to exchange towels just once a month? Wild idea. The rain shower always partially floods the bathroom due to the lack of a shower door.
Staff is mostly great, though some would need additional professional training.

I'm visiting one of the great print shows, FESPA at Berlin Messe. Staying in The Base, which is incredibly economical, and the quality of the room is fantastic. Plus, the community in Pankow is amazing. Staff here at Base One are lovely. Vishu sorted out my bar needs. Carlos helped me arrange an extended stay at a very reasonable price, plus gave me a good history lesson on Bolivia. Lorenzo helped me find bicycle rental, plus we shared notes on fitness training! This is a great place to stay, a smashing community of 300 or so folks, plus hotel rooms etc. Highly recommend Base One, and staff here are top notch, kind, dedicated young folks. I lived at the Base for approximately a year and a half and had an overall very positive experience. The environment is calm and welcoming, most essentials for a comfortable daily life are readily available, and the staff are consistently professional, kind, and helpful. The location is also fairly convenient.
There are, however, a few points that could be improved. The rent is relatively high for a 19 m² room, and during my second year, the quality of the cleaning service noticeably declined. Although the new cleaning team followed the same bi-weekly schedule as the previous one, the standard of their work was significantly lower. Their visits often consisted of only a minute or two of vacuuming and mopping, which was insufficient. Despite raising this concern multiple times, no effective improvement was made.
Shared spaces, such as the Mexican kitchen, were also affected. For example, the ovens were rarely cleaned properly and were often left in poor condition.
Despite these shortcomings, I am giving the Base a 5-star rating, as my overall stay was enjoyable and the experience largely positive.

The toilet was not cleaned when we arrived, and we had to ask for them to be cleaned the next day.
Other than that it was not a bad experience up until the last minute at check out when the receptionist was rather rude when I informed him that the rooms where not cleaned during our stay.
Apparently they are cleaned after 7 days for environmental reasons. I understand that everything doesn't need to be cleaned or changed so quickly, but I think it does no harm to the environment to take out the trash which is piling up in the room or to put new toilet papers in the bathroom. That's just using environment as an excuse to save on basic hotel services.
This excuse gets more ridiculous when the rooms are overheated to the point of not being comfortable. Of course you can decrease the heating in your room, but when you visit some common spaces you can't help it. I think if the environment is important, then this unnecessary heating is the first thing to be solved, but after saying this the receptionist was rather rude and dismissive.
There was also no fridge in the room which means you constantly need to buy cold water from the machine in lobby, and after an hour in the room the water is warm.
Moreover the rooms had some problems: the shower drain was clogged and we had to ask for it to be fixed (which was fixed in a few hours, so that was at least positive) or the toilet paper holder was broken and kept falling which was annoying.

We have stayed at the base for 3 months, and we’re so grateful that it was our first home in Berlin. Rooms are clean, modern-style. The most basic room was a little small for 2 but still quite cozy and nice. Excellent service and staff were all friendly! Enjoyed the gym, cinema, and community events so much! And the location was perfect for us to walk to S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and tram. Very convenient.

I give 1 star and not 0 for good people who work where (I hope none of them involved in this ridiculous situation)
My deposit was not returned in promised 6 weeks.
And it was pretty hard to get any proper feedback from the Base.
After I finally got a feedback, I was told to wait for 5 more business days and all gonna be set and that this is their priority.
Its been now 10 additional business days and still nothing.
So I've been waiting for deposit return 8 weeks now.

First of all, thanks to Carlo, Vishnu, Lorenzo, Daniel, and all other amazing staff at The Base for making my long stay such a wonderful experience.
I lived here for 1 year and here my opinions;
— The Base have insanely big and 24/7 available shared areas. If your room is 20 m2, you will feel like living in 200 m2 home.
-Rooms are designed very well, so many storage available, you would not believe how much stuff you can fit into your room. And if you need more space you can rent a storage inside of building for a fairly cheap price.
-I suggested an improvement to make it easier to get in and out of the bike room, and they immediately sent a technician to do it. Its amazing there is a technician all the time available for if you have any issue in your room. Any other place in Berlin you would need to wait 2 weeks or something.
-Heating was very good for the entire winter.
-Apart from the kitchen you have in your room, there is a shared kitchen named Mexican Kitchen that you can use anytime which is very big and luxury.
-There is a high-end, top-quality coffee machine you can use for free, and it is maintained by the staff at all times.
-Cold water and cold carbonated water are available for free 24/7.
— There are so many events in the community and so many areas you can work, talk with friends, meet with new people.
— The gym is good, not as big as a commercial gym but it has almost everything you need.

Probably the worst experience I've had while traveling. I travel a lot to Berlin for work so I have stayed at this hotel a couple times before.
First time all went well,
Second time I came in winter and the room was extremely warm, I could not regulate the temperature in the room, and there was no hotel staff to help me, had to open the window and let the negative temperatures outside cool down the room while I tried to sleep. Also on the same trip a cleaning lady took my book, but that got returned later.
Third time was by far the worst, and why I don't recommend anyone in staying here, I arrived at the hotel at 10 pm to do check in, and at this time I have to do self check in since no one is at the front desk, the problem was that the machine was not working and I could not check in. So I called the 24 hour support number and I got in contact with someone that tried to help me and understand what was wrong, after 20 minutes they realized they could not do anything except get someone there to fix the issue so they told me they were calling someone else to come and help. He asks a bit of patience and he would call me again soon. Soon never came, I waited 2 hours, no one called me back, I called them again but no one picked up 5 tries and was ignored. At this point is already midnight and there are more people with the same issue gathering next to the check in machine, yet no one is able to make it to their rooms.
