Singer109 Hostel, Hotel & Apartment

This was my first experience at a hostel.
We booked a 4-bedroom room, and we were surprised that it had a private bathroom. Very clean, tidy, and comfortable rooms. Also a very nice building. Location is also very convenient, close to underground and bus stations in the centre of Berlin.
The hostel also offers a very good breakfast for 7€, has a kitchen, 24-hour reception & bar, and a seating smoking area which was a wonderful surprise, especially in January. The hostel is overall quiet, with friendly people and staff.
When we were having a minor emergency and were looking for an open pharmacy, the staff did everything they could to help us, which was really considering.
The one thing that was a bit of annoying and affected our experience were the cleaning staff, who stormed into our rooms every morning to clean, however they were making a lot of noise, slamming doors, etc.

The 6-bed dormitory room has a private bathroom with a separate shower and toilet. Hot water is plentiful, and the heating is excellent. A hairdryer is provided. Free towels are not included. The Wi-Fi is good. There are bedside lamps and two power outlets. The lockers are large, but require very thick locks to close; my thin wire locks couldn't. The hostel offers a large communal kitchen with free use of various cooking utensils and tableware, including a refrigerator, induction cooker, electric kettle, and oven. Luggage storage is free before check-in and after check-out. The only drawback is that check-in time is 4 PM, but check-out is at 10 PM.

We slept in a sleeping pod; although cheap, we did not expect to be so tight: we were 16 people packed in a room usually hosting 4, with one (! ) shared bathroom (1 sink, 1 shower). This has clearly negative impact on cleanliness and silence during the night.
The bathroom was often dirty, the shower worked but the showerhead support on the wall was broken.
A kitchen is available for use, however, it lacks essentials, and can become crowded (one space for the whole hostel).
Breakfast is good for the price, 7€ not included in the price. Wifi works ok.
A very annoying thing: there is no split garbage collection, just "uncategorized".
But, the most negative thing of all: we were given the access code to another girl's pod, in which she was, at that exact moment, resting. This is very concerning, both for personal safety, and for concerns for the personal belongings stored therein.
There is a 24h manned reception, which is very nice.
Besides the reception, a smokers room renders the surrounding air always smelly.
The location is pretty good: close proximity to grocery stores, U-Bahn and S-Bahn.
