The Orphée is without a doubt THE house on the square in Regensburg. Even the Hôtel itself is hard to beat for its cheap attention to detail. It is sophisticated, invites us to linger and is characterized by a stunning hospitality. Two years ago, I took a very special photo in the restaurant of the house in the large wood-paneled guest room. It shows the guest room at midnight, the room is completely empty and only one regular guest is still here and is sitting diligently over his smartphone. Only the display is lit, and a single candle. I see the picture and I shoot it cinematographically clearly in my head. I take the photo with the iPhone for proof purposes, that must be enough. Atmo doesn't get any better. Back home, I open Photoshop and decolorize the color photo. Only around the regular guest an aura of colored candlelight and a telephone display remained. These are the color cookies. I use the picture in this edit as a concert announcement poster for our Berlin band and their Tom Waits program. The picture is the banger 🧨. It captures the atmosphere in the dining room, here you can sit to forget all the pains of its existence.

Word has spread that I am stopping here again, for the second time. My picture has found favor. I am greeted with a name salutation and am pleased. In the guest passage located on the right, I am frightened. My artwork hangs there, supplemented by the little story of how this picture came about. I'm really overwhelmed.

A large banner with a skilfully thoughtful text about the film adaptation of The Wannsseekonferenz by producer Oliver Berben and director Matti Geschonek also hangs in the Entrée at the front. The text recommends to see the film and comes from the head of the house. I have to be honest, I wish I had hotel bosses like this. The orphée is nothing arbitrary. Here you come with your heart and would like to do it again and again.

Last night the regular guest was there again. I took a heart and spoke to him. I showed him the photo and that there is a print of it hanging in the entrance, where it looks like wall decorations, made of historical items and like Cologne knick-knacks, but with such a powerful effect that it is a joy. He takes it kindly, I may continue to use the picture, no worries. While I am evaluating the house, I am sitting in room 15 of the adjoining house at one o'clock at night.

If I had to sum up the house and shorter words, because they force me to do it, I would have to say it like this:
You will definitely not find a better or even comparable place in Regensburg. Hotel Orphée: I love it.

By the way: The author Kathrin Wessling also read her book here. So literature is also running. Fine.

See you soon, Orphée, see you again next year: there's something in the air. A very special fragrance.

I've tagged Thoughtful amenities here: I've had them ALL.
