During our recent trip to Normandy, we decided to stay in Bayeux. We chose the Villa Lara Hotel based on a notation in Rick Steves' travel book. What a wonderful hotel! The accommodations were outstanding. We only booked a few months out and the only room available was a suite — but what a suite it was — Room 305. It was pricey but well worth it. It had a sitting room and an outside balcony centered over the front corner of the hotel four floors up. The view of the cathedral in the Old Town setting was beautiful. The staff was first class — Tiffany, Kimberly and Laura from Reception were wonderful. The breakfast was great. The entire hotel was fresh, clean, and inviting. Highly recommended!

My family and I just finished our stay at this beautiful hotel in Bayeux. Elegant without being stuffy-we felt very comfortable here with our two teenage children. Rima and her staff made everything perfect-found us a way to get to Bayeux from Paris despite the train strike, served a beautiful breakfast each morning and made dinner reservations in wonderful restaurants. We stayed here in order to experience the Normandy beaches/D-Day memorials and Villa Lara made our trip that much more memorable. We are forever grateful and hope to return again.

Bayeux is a wonderful city and by far the best place from which to explore the World War II landing beaches as well as see the wonderful tapestry of William's conquest of England in 1066. What Bayeux has never had is a top quality hotel. Villa Lara, named after the owners' daughters, is the answer. Opening in 2012 as an entirely new property on the site of an old car park it provides friendly and welcoming staff, top quality accommodation and a secure parking area that guests… can enjoy for nothing — a huge benefit in Bayeux where parking, due to the city's popularity, is at a premium. We dealt direct with the hotel for our booking and asked for a bath with our accommodation as the rooms on offer were only available with a shower. On arriving we had been upgraded to a terrific suite with a small, extremely comfortable little sitting room that had a terrace looking up at the city's magnificent 11th century Notre Dame cathedral. Not only did we have a spacious bedroom area the bath was large, deep with a top notch range of quality toiletries. I really cannot fault the quality of everything in the hotel and would not stay anywhere else in this magnificent old city. If you are looking for quality, comfort and five star service I urge you to do likewise.

Best small hot trip 2015.

8/13 — great boutique hotel in Bayeux France. Great home base to tour Normandy from. Loved it.

Recently, my friend wanted to great surprise me by offering me a night of luxury in a hotel 4 * stars in Bayeux (because we had programmed a pilgrimage on the beaches of d-day for the days to come)! Initially, absolute happiness. And, before the entry in the hotel VILLA LARA! Prestige, there is only the reference of the House! If anything a 4 *.
Indeed, in a second time, very big disappointment. Hotel renowned and appointed 4-star brings in nothing the benefits expected. As a first step, fortunately, we were able to negotiate a small €50 discount, by phone. (€250 instead of €310 per night) otherwise. Terribly excessive prices for services of a 4 *! The bed was not a bed as indicated by phone by the receptionist, it was two beds pushed that was 160 over 200 total.
As well, what a surprise on arrival, the receptionist sipped a caramel relatively hard and so had a lot of trouble to talk to us. I felt hard. She was dressed in a pair of jeans, and a quite dismal black sweater, normally in the four stars, the staff is dressed at least a black jacket, blouse and skirt for women and for men, a jacket suit and a white shirt in the name of the property.
No of floors, or lifted, no valet parking, no nothing. Q' a single magnetic card for all access. (Room, gym with three small items: bike, treadmill and another device for the cardio. ), no SPA, pool or jacuzzi and even less sauna or hammam.

Our stay at Villa Lara last October was excellent! We will definitely return as we had a wonderful time. The hotel is amazing and the service is warm and friendly. I wish all Hotels in France were like this. Our rooms were great and the grounds are very quiet and pretty with a good location.
