This hotel is owner managed and has retained the charm of good old fashioned personal service. When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff who brought us to our room. Our double room was cosy and comfortable with all the mod cons and good Wi-Fi. Breakfast at the hotel in the lovely dining room included both cooked and cold items, fruit, yogurt, cereal, sweets and good coffee and tea. Evenings at the hotel was an opportunity to mix with other guests for drinks at reasonable prices. The reception staff were always happy to help with information, bookings for taxis and restaurant reservations. All in, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this exceptional hotel.
Hôtel d’Argouges in Bayeux was a truly memorable and charming place to stay, easily one of the more distinctive accommodations of our trip.
The property itself is beautiful and steeped in history, which adds a unique character you simply do not find in modern hotels. There is a strong sense of authenticity throughout, and we felt very safe and comfortable during our stay. Our room was spacious and well-suited for relaxing after a full day of exploring.
The location is excellent, within easy walking distance to everything you would want to see or need in town. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely helpful, offering insights that enhanced our time in Bayeux.
Breakfast deserves special recognition, it was outstanding and among the best we experienced during our entire trip, with high-quality offerings and a thoughtful presentation.
There are a couple of practical considerations. Due to the age of the building, access involves narrow staircases, which can be challenging when carrying heavier luggage. Additionally, the televisions in our room were not functional, though this was a minor issue given that it did not detract from the overall experience.
In sum, this is a beautiful, historic hotel that delivers a rich and authentic stay, with excellent service and location. Well worth it if you appreciate character and are prepared for the realities that come with a historic property.

Want a well located charmer, this is the one. Luxurious, no, but everything you could want as a “base” property for a visit to St Mon Saint Michel & the D-Day beaches. Bayeux is a delight & this property is so well located. A historic property, renovated chateau — that means updated but not luxurious, ease into the charm & you won’t be disappointed. Smallish rooms, but clean, updated bathrooms. Breakfast room, lovely & breakfast offerings, well above average. Relax after a day of tours with a glass of wine (or 2), served with a smile. All of Bayeux at your doorstep. A staff that will make you smile, kind and accommodating.
