Hôtel Les Esclargies

With a person welcome by the owner, beautiful clean rooms and a yard that feels like a park this place is perfect. The rooms are large and clean. The beds are comfortable and you practically wake up to the smell of coffee. Breakfast has fresh fruit, home baked treats like the local favorite walnut cake, eggs and more than you could want of everything beautifully displayed. Parking and walking to the sites was easy.

The hotel Les Esclargies is located between the Chateau and the L’Hospitalet area. The reception was excellent with all the particulars of Rocamadour explained. The room is simple and ours was small but nevertheless it has all what you need. We liked in particular the design of the hotel and rooms which does have a Japanese touch and feel. The garden around is an oase of peace and offers a shortcut to one of the lookouts for great photo shooting. It leads also downwards towards the old town and sanctuary via a short walk of 15min. Or elevator. It’s just a petty that the elevation back upwards in September is stopping already at 7pm, which makes a down restaurant visit impossible unless you except the uphill walk afterwards. On the other hand there are multiple good restaurants in the surrounding of the hotel worth a visit. We had breakfast at the hotel which is offered in buffet form with lots of variaties. Only recommendation I would make is to offer the guest a choice of eggs in person, because the scrambled eggs were always gone when we entered the breakfast room.

We had a truly delightful stay at Hotel Les Esclargies. The rooms were spotless and well-maintained, offering all the comfort we needed. The peaceful and beautifully landscaped grounds created a relaxing atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring.
What made our stay even more special was the warm hospitality. The host and the entire team were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. The breakfast was well-organized, with just the right variety, and beautifully presented.
The location is excellent: just a short walk from the heart of Rocamadour, yet quietly tucked away in a serene natural setting. The hotel offers outstanding value for money. We would definitely recommend this charming hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Beautiful hotel with lovely artists touches. The linen smelt lovely & the bed was extremely comfortable. The hosts were very helpful, kind & attentive. Lovely breakfast. All in all a wonderful experience.
The main village is a steep walk from the hotel but worth the effort as it was beautiful & there were lovely restaurants to be found in the village. The hotel does not provide evening meal so you must be prepared to walk to the amazing medieval village to eat.

What a beautiful peacefully situated hotel. About 15 minute walk to Rocamadour. We were welcomed by a lovely lady who explained everything to us. They even had a special place to store our bicycles. Rooms very nice and comfortable, separate toilet and nice big shower. We enjoyed the huge gardens and pool. Breakfast was great with lots of choices. In the evening we walked to Rocamadour and back for dinner.

Professional and friendly welcome. The hotel is sympathetically designed and blends beautifully into the environment. A tranquil and relaxing atmosphere and spotlessly clean. Excellent location. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable room with access to a small private terrace.

This has been a wonderful experience. Rocamadour is great in iteself. The hotel just makes it even more special. Everybody so nice and helpful, the settings (what a garden! ) and location absoutely perfect, the room very pleasant, the whole place charming. And absolute silence at night. It makes a very easy central spot to explore the whole region. We will surely come back. Thank you Martine and whole team.

A luxurious room, gorgeous grounds, just a short walk to the funicular into Rocamadour, top notch service from Martine and Jade. We "sprang" for the cold breakfst, buttery croissants with and without chocolate, yogurts and delicious local walnuts and dried fruits, honey and other Dordogne and Rocamadour specialties. Fresh orange juice. Yumm. The coffee was excellent too. Did I mention the gorgeous building and comfortable bed?
Frankly Les Esclargiers will be my highest recommendation for family and friends visiting from the US to the Dordogne. It was an extremely comfortable and perfect execution of the owners' vision. Bravo!

Les Esclargies was a comfortable, quiet, and clean hotel set on a small green space of its own and yet close to the medieval city of Rocamadour and the sacred site above it. Martine was so welcoming and her language skills so helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed for 3 nights in a Chambre confort. The room was clean & large enough, with a small balcony overlooking the rear gardens. The bathroom was fine. The bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast was good, favouring the continental style. The only hot food was scrambled eggs (the kitchen is very small) so don’t expect a “full English” to be laid on. There was a good selection of cereals, muesli, fresh fruit, cold meats, cheese, yoghurts, different breads & pastries.
The hotel is ideally located at the top of Rocadamour, within an easy max 10 mins walk of the restaurants, close to the walk overlooking the medieval town below and the paths (or lifts) up & down.
On site parking is not a problem.
The staff were super friendly & efficient, offering a lot of information about where to go for evening meals, walks & best things to visit.
There is a swimming pool, which we didn’t use, but in the hot season it would offer a welcome dip.
All in all, our stay was comfortable & its location is excellent for a stay to take in Rocadamour & the surrounding area.

We have just spent a night at this fabulous hotel and can highly recommend it.
Martine and her team are friendly and speak good English. They take time to explain how to get to Rocamadour (the hotel is in a perfect location for this) and happily answer any questions you have about the Dordogne.
The rooms are a good size, we had one on the upper floor that looked out over their gorgeous gardens, it also had a little balcony.
Breakfast is fantastic! A buffet of everything you can think of — muesli, yoghurt, nuts, eggs, croissants, ham, salami, prosciutto, homemade cakes, juices, coffee. Best hotel breakfast we had in our entire France trip.
Take my advice and book it if you can — it’s superb!

Absolutely perfect! We stayed here for one night at the end of July in the heat. The pool was ideal and it was only a short walk to the lift down to the old town. We will definitely stay here again. Such a peaceful place amongst the trees.

This hotel was the best discovery we have had in many years. I have tried hard to think of anything we didn’t like or things we think they could improve on but truthfully there are none! We are a retired couple and the peace and quiet at this hotel is just what we love. The location was absolutely perfect for us, just far enough away from the crowd in Rocamadour but close enough to spend as much time in the town as you want. You can walk to the town in a very short time, if you can cope with the steep hill back! Alternatively you can get the lift down the hillside and back as it runs all day. Personally we found the local area to the hotel was much preferred in the evening, where they have at least 3 really good restaurants within a 10 minute flat walk. In fact we found all of the restaurants here to be much better quality and with much better service than we found in the town of Sarlat.
But back to the hotel, which was exceptional. It all starts with Jade, the receptionist, who is a charming young woman and who seems to want to do anything she can to ensure you have the best stay. She speaks very good English and her style of wanting to do anything for you, is so impressive.
The rooms are beautiful with the best beds we have ever had in France. They are soft to medium and they gave us the best nights sleep in our whole holiday in France. The outside patio area of our room was the most perfect place to relax and enjoy the wonderful views of the garden.

A modern hotel is set in beautiful grounds and close to the walkway and lift to Rocamadour. Room small but very clean and comfortable. Lovely pool area.
My disappointment was with the older staff's attitude. Not welcoming, and the breakfast arrangements were poor. 3 staff spent all their fussing around the food table. Yep, the spoons were all pointing in the right direction but the eggs ran out in 15 minutes and no attempt was made to cook more. Meager cheese and cold meats and the cereal bowls were tiny.
People were being asked to sit at the garden table when is was cold outside.
We just felt we were a nuisance.
If they get the breakfast right reviews will be better.
