Château de La Ballue - Teritoria

This is a very special place. Comfortable rooms, pleasant breezes, excellent host and hostess. It's remote, so you need to plan your days carefully, but in August the sun doesn't really set till after 9 PM so you can drive the narrow roads to arrive at the castle without too much difficulty. You do need to plan dinners outside the castle, and the closest options aren't as interesting as St. Malo, which takes planning. My only tiny optimization to suggest would be to vary the breakfast variety. Thank you for letting me live my fantasy!

This was a dream realized to stay at a beautiful château in the French countryside! Overlooking the front entrance gardens, the Victor Hugo room was spacious and had a stand up shower. Breakfast on the ground floor was excellent every morning. All the rooms on the ground floor look like they came from a museum and we enjoyed wine in fine surroundings each evening. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous. I had no idea about the gardens when booking this stay — what a wonderful surprise! There is also a beautiful area out front where you can enjoy drinks and desserts from the salon in the side garden. The staff, in fact the family owners, were very gracious and helpful. Upon checking in they provided an extensive list of restaurants in the nearby towns and helped us make dinner reservations each evening. All restaurants were good choices and they were happy to serve guests from the château! This location is great: near both charming Saint-Malo and the Mont Saint-Michel, truly a must see. Driving around this part of Brittany and neighbouring Normandy was a lot of fun and so easy thanks to GPS technology. (A rental car is a must! ) To conclude, what a highlight of our two-week trip to France!

There are almost no words to describe how wonderful this is. Beautiful, obviously, but also entirely and exceptionally maintained and loved, the chateau (castle), gardens, grounds, everything. It feels like a home, and is. We were warmly greeted by Marie-Francoise and her sons, Theo and Alexandre, and their delightful Chesapeake Bay retrievers. Anticipation felt a bit intimidating (I've never been the guest of a chateau before), but no pretentions or arrogance here, just genuine love for the place and pleasure in sharing it. We relaxed by the large pool (there was shade, which I appreciated), had cocktails and breakfasts in the chateau parlors, and took morning and evening walks through the fascinating gardens. In June, the sun sets around 10 p. M. My husband, adult daughter, and I stayed in the Suite de France, and it was spacious, with comfy beds and fine linens, two bedrooms, a sitting room, and the beautiful view. The rural landscape is lovely. We explored surrounding villages, and all the restaurants were good. Events are occasionally held on site, and we experienced one. It was well managed, not overwhelming, and we were welcomed to join the festivities. A brief heatwave struck during our stay (temps in the 90s) but it remained remarkably cool inside the chateau's stone walls. We were provided a fan, and with the windows open at night slept well.

A wonderful experience. A well maintained authentic place and a lovely host. It's a picture perfect place all in all. Tasty breakfast is a guarantee. Just plan your visit and prepare for lunch and dinner around the place. It's little isolated and takes a 30 minutes drive to get anything.

We were two couples who stayed for 4 nights at the castle and all of us absolutely loved our experience there. The building itself is beautiful, and the owners have taken exceptional care to make the interiors not only aesthetically charming, but also warm and welcoming. The gardens are simply stunning — anyone interested in gardening should definitely make a trip here to see the Italian, French & English sections of the huge garden. We particularly enjoyed the chance to go to a sauna in the garden, with a hot tub right next to it. The breakfast is wonderful, and we were also impressed by the well-stocked honour bar in the salon. The cherry on top of the cake is the family and staff who run the place — always friendly, professional and accommodating. We had a simply perfect stay in one of the most beautiful places we frequent travelers have ever been to — highly recommended! Merci!

My husband and I stayed here overnight as we explored the Normandy area. The rooms and chateau are gorgeous! The pictures you find online do not encapsulate the grandeur and history of the location! The bed in the Diana room is amazing. The food prepared just for us in the morning was probably the best in France and we were there for a week. Try the home made yogurt and fresh fruit salad. Amazing! We also met the owner who is gracious and spoke perfect English to accommodate our passable French. She is just as lovely as the grounds!
I do need to mention the cattle that are located just off the property. I am not sure if it is a slaughter house? Or. Working farm? But the manure smell made walking the grounds almost unbearable. It could have been the time of year (End of October) or a new addition to the area. Just feel like the reviews I read never mentioned it.
Also, the list of restaurants near by are out dated (some are closed) and we happened upon Phil …a Table restaurant by Chef Phil that had the best food. Amazing place. If you arrive late you will either be driving 15 min out to randomly find food, or going to bed hungry. The owner did offer the kitchen to us, but since it wasn’t included in the price we didn’t want to impose. She really is a lovely woman.
Don’t hesitate to stay! Just be aware of some of the areas shortcomings.

I took my fiancee there for her birthday and could not have asked for a better stay! The drive to the Chateau was beautiful and peaceful. Walking into the grounds was breathtaking. Walking around the gardens was stunning. We really enjoyed exploring and learning the history of the place. Marie and her team were incredible! They fed us an awesome brunch. They brought us hot chocolate when we asked. And were super accommodating throughout the entire weekend. My fiancee had the best birthday ever! Marie was super responsive as I planned everything. I could not recommend more highly!

A magical and delightful place to stay and to step back in time to a quieter more peaceful world. Although hidden in the countryside it is very easy to visit all the local towns and the north coast of Brittany however personal transport essential.
Bedrooms charming and my sole reservation was the lack of a proper shower in the bathroom. There is no dining room however breakfasts were excellent and plenty of restaurants in local villages. My advice would be to indulge in a spectacular sea food lunch each day in Cancale or Dinard and then have a snack meal in the evening.
We will return and that is a better compliment than any written words.

An absolute highlight of our Summer in France. Exceptional in every regard. Impeccable, warm and hospitable service, incredible gardens and jaw-dropping views. Our children were in heaven. Quality of everything from linens to breakfast was faultless. It would be easy to think that all of this makes the place stuffy or formal — but not at all, the feel of the Chateau is relaxing and the family go out of their way to make the welcome sincere and part of the overall experience. I wouldn't change a thing and would return in a heartbeat.

This is one of those places you'll think about for many years to come.
The gardens are sensational, merged between classic geometric formal gardens and a piece of modern art. You can get lost in them time and time again and every morning and evening we'd spend time wandering around discovering new areas.
We visited with our dog and he was made to feel welcome and loved all the smells and little hidden areas of the land. They have dogs on site but there were no issues and they are well behaved show winning dogs.
The owners are clearly in love with the site and have been there several decades with their sons now an integral part of the hotel operation. You felt like you were joining a family and they were always on hand to answer a question or cut you a slice of cake from the excellent tea rooms on site.
The rooms are fabulously eccentric with strong colour choices, tall ceilings and old furniture. Our room didn't have a stand up shower which I knew when booking but it added to the experience of being in a chateau. There are no TV's to distract you and you just have to wander around, look out of the windows, explore the charming little towns or go for a swim in the newly installed big heated outdoor pool.
Breakfast is another hilight, it's of home made/grown items like the honey, yoghurt and eggs with plenty of choice.
There is no restaurant on site although you can get a meat and bread platter from to order or bring your own food back if you wish.

We received a warm welcome on arrival, and given information about local restaurants before being shown to our room. There is also secure parking on the grounds if you are driving. The Chateau is absolutely beautiful especially the gardens which are opened to the public at certain times.
It is a great spot from which to explore the towns of Dinan and Cancale and Mont Saint Michel and the Normandy coast.
Our room was large and very comfortable, there is no shower as such in the bathroom but a hand held shower tap in the bath. The pool looked so inviting but it was too cold for us when we were there.
Breakfast was served in the beautiful dining room which was very good. We stayed here for two nights and would definitely recommend staying here if you are travelling by car. Leave time to explore the manicured grounds, so beautiful.

Beautiful historic castle with great gardens. Great location, close to many tourist spots (St Malo, Cancale, Mont St Michel, etc. )
Our room was clean, large and comfortable with minimum appointments (no TV, no fridge, no AC, poor/weak lightning).
Great breakfast although a little pricy.

Wonderful place to stay if you want to feel « at home » in a Château… Exquisite decoration, amazing breakfast served with efficiency in the beautiful dining room. Very quiet surroundings, we enjoyed the swimming pool and gardens as well as the shop at the entrance where the collection of books about nature and gardening is exceptional.

The chateau is beautiful but homely, the gardens are stunning and the team are very welcoming. We would recommend it.
We enjoyed the breakfast and the pool looked nice. Sadly it was a bit too cold a day to be tempted in.
We were given a list of local restaurants on arrival, although we had already contacted the host and had received the list by email.

In reading other reviews, I would just be repetitive. Basically, here to assure others of the consistency of experience. Madame and her staff want you to relax and enjoy. Breakfast with cook is satisfying and filling. Proximity to all Bretagne has to offer is appreciated. St. Michel, St. Malo, Dinan, and Cancale are not far. I chatted with a crepier in Chartres who recommended going further east beyond Dinan to appreciate the raw beauty of Bretagne — "wild" he called it — next time.

This incredibly beautiful chateau bed and breakfast is family fun. They were so kind and accommodating to our family of 7. Beautiful grounds. Most delicious breakfast I’ve ever had with house made crepes and yogurt. 🙌

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Wish we had booked qnother night. The gardens are amazing as is the whole atmosphere. Lovely to have the parking within the gate, our room was spacious, the bathroom had a lovely shower and the breakfast was fantastic to start us on our journey. I would highly recommend. The location was perfect for exploring Mont St. MichelCancale, etc.
