Great hostel where I stayed 3 days very friendly and welcoming team.
super concept.

A hostel where it is good to stay a few nights, but also temporarily install to discover the life in lyon. It feels like home thanks to inhabitants, and an attentive staff, a very warm staff and friendly. Beyond the living room, discovers the local projects, initiatives of solidarity and ethical events exciting and informative! It is the Participatory aspect and its interaction with the local landscape of the Alter Hostel that make a place so precious
One of the few addresses where you can fight against the bad housing, thanks to the system of Nights Stayed, where a small donation allows you to relocate directly to a homeless person

This makes it possible to have a great stay in addition to all the amenities on offer, I highly recommend it!

Such a lovely friendly place, very clean and cosy. Sam at the desk was very helpful. Amazing.

Really fun place, with a quirky environmental vibe. Nice bedrooms, with excellent air con, and a very well equipped communal kitchen. Staff very helpful, and the bar was reasonably priced and pleasant. Remember to bring a towel!

I stayed long enough at the Alter'Hostel, and I had a more than great experience!
Their concept is just great and especially after going there I think all the other hostels should do the same!
First, they tend to be as environmentally friendly and environmentally friendly as possible by offering local and organic products, they organize activities to raise awareness of new and more responsible and environmentally friendly consumption patterns, and they even have dry toilets!
Then it is also a participatory hostel, ie we can help in associations and meet lots of Lyonnais in this way while doing a great action :D We can help fight food waste, garden in a shared garden in the neighbourhood, help in a social center and prepare cultural and artistic activities…
Finally it feels like home, you could stay there. Long… for a very long time… We don't even want to leave!

The staff was friendly and spoke English too :) Shout out to Margo who was a great sport and put up with all our banter! Gave me great tips about going around Lyon in a day. Rooms were huge and didn't feel crowded for 16 people. Beds, showers and toilets were clean. Can't say much about the vibe since I stayed there just for the night. It's a little away from the centre of the city so you might have to take the bus (tip: use the shared Lyon bikes, they're practically free).

A lot of older (age 35-70) people here living indefinitely as they look for apartments. There is little atmosphere to meet fellow travelers. The kitchen gets super busy and people don't clean their dishes. Pots don't have handles and non-stick is scraping off. Hostel is reasonably clean. Beds are nice. Wi-fi is terrible. Could not sleep well due to constant street noise, mosquitoes, and snoring. Location is OK but not super convenient. This is an average hostel with good beds. Look for something nicer if you want a good kitchen & a social atmosphere.

The hostel is friendly, clean and safe and in addition the staff is really cool… and all for a very small price (the cheapest in Lyon). As I expected with this participatory hostel, I was able to find a spirit of sharing around a good meal and good beers.
If like me, you want to visit and have a good time on Lyon, this is the right place to fall to enjoy the city!

A great hostel where one is always welcomed. The place is very friendly, there are sofas on the mezzanine with a screen to screen movies but also an atmosphere bar in the evening and especially curtains hanging from the beds to keep a little privacy!
In addition, I love the eco-responsible side highlighted. A concept that remains quite rare in the places of travel. There are dry toilets and workshops to learn how to be more autonomous.
Cleanliness is also the order of the day, and the kitchen is pleasant to use.
When the sun is coming, you can land on the docks with a book, which is very nice. A great address, I would come back, it's on :)

Hostel at the top! Clean and very quiet rooms, showers and well-maintained toilets, I had a great weekend there. A relaxing and full-end entertainment room with free games and sofas, everything is there to have a nice time. As for the kitchen there are several fridges and tables for lunch/dinner I highly recommend!
Very affordable price for the service provided
And not to mention the placement in Lyon which is 5/10min from the city centre with bus stop right across the street and many supermarkets/restaurants on the street!
