We received a warm welcome to this lovely chateau. We were in Suite Charles — ample accommodation for the three of us. Breakfast is locally sourced continental breakfast with homemade jams and brioche plus local hams, cheeses, yoghurts and locally roasted coffee. Although there is no evening meal available, you have access to a fridge — we bought salad and bread from the market in Colmar, wine from the honesty bar. There are plenty of tables outside and you can sit until dusk listening to the birds and enjoying the peace. Other families bought in flammkuchen; there were also a couple of barbecues.
This was an absolutely delightful place to stay and I’d heartily recommend to anyone staying in Alsace.
The owner of Chateau de Grunstein describes it as "his castle" and that certainly seems to be an accurate description. We stayed in a large two room suite that was exquisitely decorated. Breakfasts were set in a beautiful eating area with classical music playing quietly in the background. The food was superb. The grounds surrounding the building were well maintained. Entrance was through an iron gate which only added to the sense of exclusivity that was a part of staying there. Perhaps because it is a bit off the beaten track, the nightly rate for staying there was quite reasonable. Anyone with a car will have no trouble traveling to Strasbourg, Colmar or any of the villages along the Alsace Wine Route. The friendliness of the owner only added to the experience. We loved staying at the Chateau de Grunstein. Note, although the room had a flatscreen TV, there were no English channels available. As we did not plan to watch television anyway, this was not a problem for us.

Superb!
A real huge chateau (with a real moat and an entrance bridge! ), with beautiful rooms, fully furnished with antique styled decor to fit a real chateau, yet with full modern functionality and luxury (such as a modern shower and sinks, and a full size jet tub in some rooms).
"Unfortunately", although the theme and the historic vibe ask for it — a real princess/prince is not provided with the room, so bring your own😉
It was renovated with tons of love and care by the owners.
If you like history — it has a very long and interesting one.
I cannot thank enough Sophie and mom for the friendly hospitality, efforts, and for having the patience to answer all my milion questions on the history and the renovation of the chateau 😃.
I stayed here twice already, and I can say for sure there will be more stays in the future.
