I just returned from Mizata and had an incredible time. I was a solo traveler (my wife couldn't make the trip) and I wasn't sure what to expect… What I discovered was a wonderfully renovated resort, removed from the busyness of the more well-known surf locations in El Salvador AND an incredibly helpful and present staff. I came not to relax but to learn how to surf again. Mizata turned out to be the perfect place to do both. The real strength and magic of this incredible place was found in the people who work there. I made some great friendships. Rocco picked me up from the airport and spent several days with me. We surfed together in a empty waves on my first day. He gave me a personal tour of the coffee plantations. We enjoyed a lunch of pupusas (the local staple) and we laughed a lot together. Misael became another fast friend. We surfed together and he took me to an incredibly beautiful waterfall nearby. I was honored to be able to meet his family. Eric was also another friend who guided me for two days. He's a monster in the water and by the end of the trip I had regained some of the skills I had as a grom growing up in North County San Diego. It was the culmination of a lot of hard work and to be able to accomplish it with these guys who I felt like I had been surfing with for years was just so killer. Finally, the staff at the restaurant was simply amazing. Every day, Juan, Carolina and Sophie greeted me at the restaurant personally and with big smiles. They shared with me their goals an aspirations and by the end of my trip I considered them dear friends too. And I do also want to mention the resort concierge/managers, Daniel and his compatriots were superstars in scheduling my activities each day. To recap, the setting was unbelievable, the trip was adventurous, the people were amazing and I can't wait to return and share this very special place and people with my own family and friends.
