Hotel Timor

Friendly staff, comfy hotel, nice snacks, breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. Large and popular hotel. Bit pricey I felt.

Sometimes old is funky and stylish, sometimes old means it’s decrepit and needs some love. This hotel has colonial charm but the room we stayed is sorely in need of an urgent refurbishment.
The upside.
Good breakfast.
Spacious reception and dining area.
Nice outdoor pool and bar.
Good porters and door staff.
Good location.
The downside.
Couldn’t eradicate mosquitoes in my room.
Musty smell in room.
A/C struggled to cool room.
Noisy kitchen extraction fan noise starts at 6am in the morning.
Shower recess mouldy with unstable floor.
I would reconsider staying at the hotel again AFTER a significant upgrade. If not, I’ll give it a pass.

Lovely hotel in downtown Dili. Super polite and kind staff, check in staff are multi lingual, great restaurant, conference rooms, and lovely sized air conditioned rooms. Pool is fantastic too.

The Hotel looks very nice and appealing unfortunately looks can be deceiving as the service was not matching.
The breakfast spread was superb.
There is a gift shop with souvenirs and other items.
Rooms were spacious and clean.
The doormen were nice and they allowed luggage to be stored in reception.
Free Airport shuttle was great.
If you walk a little easy to catch microlets. But traffic can be heavy. Dili Port very close.
The staff were main issue. I received no responses to queries on Booking. Com prior to my arrival.
Reception staff generally okay but I found one asleep when I went to ask questions.
The waiting/dining staff were not so good. They didn't need to do much for breakfast as it was self-serve buffet but I had lunch and a couple of dinners including when I wasn't a hotel guest and service was poor. I had to chase them for menus. And then drink menus and desert. Many items they said were not available, or staff did not understand their own menus. I had one person hand me a desert I never ordered or asked. And some more interested in knowing if I was Indian than actually doing their job. There was adequate staff. Just they often sat around talking and doing no work.
The Wifi was basically non-existent in rooms.

A relatively central location within the Timor mall, which makes it convenient if not charming. Immense rooms, clean and functional (if not charming! ). The highlights are the lovely and efficient staff and the terrace restaurant, you want to take picture of the sunset every morning of your stay.
You can work in your room, Wi-Fi is very OK for Dili in 2025. Pick up from and to airport is very reliable.

The room was excellent and the meals were a highlight of staying at Hotel Timor. Staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and always polite. I really appreciated that the staff passed on a message to book online for a better deal than could be offered in person.   The complimentary airport pick up and drop off were very good service.   Laundry was always returned the same day, fresh and ironed. Looking forward to going back again.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Timor in Dili, and what truly set it apart was the exceptional hospitality of the staff. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed, and throughout my stay, the team went above and beyond to ensure my comfort.
The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with any request, whether it’s arranging transportation, recommending local spots, or simply greeting guests with a genuine smile. Their professionalism and kindness create a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home.
The hotel itself is well-maintained, offering clean and comfortable rooms, a great restaurant with delicious food, and a convenient central location. Whether traveling for business or leisure, Hotel Timor is an excellent choice in Dili. I highly recommend it and will definitely return on my next visit!

Hotel Timor has a long history as it has been used for decades by expats, NGOs and business travellers. It offers good quality right in the centre of downtown Dili. Food is excellent and the menu changes daily. It is bilingual, Portugese-English. Rooms are clean, large and solid. The pool is clean and well preserved. Prices are a bit hefty, but very typical for Timor Leste. Very friendly staff.

When I arrived, even though there were several guys (workers) in the front door, no one was helping me bring down the luggage from the car, neither brought those luggage to the lobby. What a service.
Other than that, everything was good.

Of the three hotels we stayed at in Dili, Hotel Timor had the most character and felt most authentic. We loved the Timorese touches and artwork all through the building. Our room was comfortable but not at the standard we expected: it was very noisy, there were gaps in the windows, our fridge leaked and the shower was damaged and old. Service was ok but nothing special. Breakfast was average, not a patch on Timor Plaza Hotel. The (free) airport shuttle was excellent. We’d go back, but hope it’s a lot better next time.

Had a great one day stay here on my way to Darwin. The hotel is one of the best in Timor-Leste. Great dinning room, including breakfast. Nice Wifi in public areas. Very nice rooms and they provide shuttle to the airport. Highly recommend it. The location is excellent right by the Ferry port in the center of town. The staff are very helpful, I needed an iPhone cable, they sent an employee with me to the store!

We stayed at Hotel Timor because it had a nice location in town. We stayed for 4 days and discovered these pros and cons.
Cons:
1. No elevators. Room they assigned us was on several flights of stairs. We are seniors so receptionist (she tried her best to help us) got us a dirty room on the First Floor, which was 2 flights of stairs from reception. The room was more thoroughly cleaned the next morning.
2. Two men cleaned the rooms. One drove us out before cleaning & when he finished, didn't bother informing us when we were just a few steps away on the same floor. This man also refused to give me a laundry bag even after I explained to him that the laundry bag in our room is at the cleaners' & that I have more laundry for the next day. After more discussions, he relented. New toiletries were not issued.
3. In room phone & hair dryer not working. One of the room cleaning guys gave us a working hair dryer the next day.
4. Black mold in shower and shower floor had cracks. It took a long time for water to drain in the shower thus the feet have to get wet with dirty water used after showering. Have to pause shower after every few minutes so water won't flow into the rest of the restroom.
5. Inroom Wi-Fi was a total miss, unable to support a phone conversation. Internet speed in the room was 1 mbps.
6. Narrow depth closet, 6 inches only. Hanger width is a foot, more or less. Have to orient hangers accordingly.
7. Mosquitoes, gnats in room day & night.

A great hotel in the center of Dili. Comfortable rooms with views. Shower had the taps the wrong way around, but a minor issue once sorted. Good meals in a relaxing dining room and also available by the pool which is a good size, clean, with shady areas to sit and very clean changerooms. A few restaurants close by although not much else and a fair walk (or drive) to a good beach. Ideally situated if you have business to do in central Dili. The staff were friendly and most had some English.

The food and the ambiance is nice. Make sure that you are not that starving when you want to dine there because it will take time to prepare and serve the food. Nevertheless, the servers and staffs are all accommodating and hospitable. 🤗

For $US120 a night I at least expect a hot shower. Very expensive for a hotel in dire need of repairs. Shower heads spurt water everywhere, noisy kitchen exhaust fan outside the windows, some staff were friendly others seemed annoyed to have to talk to me. Why is my room $135, my travel partner is $120 and my other friends $110 for the same room type. They can't give me an explanation. Paying top dollar for a budget hotel. I will look elsewhere next time.

One of the historic hotel in the city. Clean, and really really nice staffs. I had good time when I was there.

Hotel Timor is a great place to stay. They pick you up from the airport and do everything they can to make your stay a good one. The staff are helpful and provide good advice. The location is fantastic. You can walk to the ferry, to good local restaurants, cafes, supermarket, museum and Parliament House. I recommend staying here for work and when on holiday.
