I recently stayed at Solaz Boutique Hotel in Las Terrenas and it was pure paradise. The location is unbeatable, just steps away from the beautiful Playa Popy. The room was pristine, modern, and incredibly comfortable, offering a perfect, quiet retreat. The hotel front restaurant was absolutely incredible—easily some of the best food I've had in the DR! Combined with the fantastic, relaxing atmosphere of Las Terrenas, this was an outstanding getaway. Highly recommend!
This stay completely ruined our trip.
From the moment we arrived, everything felt disorganized. The parking was locked, there were no signs or staff around, and reception was empty. We had to look for someone ourselves and eventually found a staff member in the restaurant after about 20 minutes.
The check-in process was chaotic. We were kept waiting for around 30 minutes while the receptionist searched for a laptop and checked our booking and documents. Only after all that, we were told that check-in starts at 3:00 PM (it was 2:30 PM). This could have been communicated right away.
The room itself had several serious issues:
• windows don’t lock.
• the safe is unusable (no lock)
• the TV is not properly installed.
• strong chemical smell in the room.
• poor cleanliness (dead mosquito on the wall, wet toilet seat)
We asked to fix the window issue, but after being shown multiple rooms, it became clear that none of the windows in the hotel lock. This is apparently considered normal here.
As for the safe, we were given a separate lock and warned about a ~$200 penalty if we lose it.
Overall, the level of safety is unacceptable. Instead of addressing the issue, staff kept saying that “nothing ever happens here, ” which is not a valid justification.
There was also an issue with parking — our car was blocked. Since no one was at reception, I went to the restaurant to ask for help.
