For the past 20 years my husband and I have taken mother away to the Caribbean for a relaxing beach vacation. My mother who is now almost 86 has mobility issues and what she enjoys most is sitting on the beach, umbrella drink in hand and also floating around the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Our recent trip was especially important to us as my mother has been ill for the past 6 months and we wanted to take her on one more trip while she still has the strength to go. We saved up and tried to plan an extra-special vacation for her. After much research we settled on Tortuga Bay. I contacted my credit card travel concierge to book the trip for us and to call the resort directly to make sure it was an appropriate place for my mom. She spoke to many of the staff at Tortuga Bay regarding my mother and made sure that it would be easy for her to get around and that the beach was close by. My travel concierge even called a little over a week prior to our trip make sure everything was still in order and she was told it was. We arrived mid-afternoon and waited for our beach-front two-bedroom villa to be ready. When we got to our room around 5pm the first thing my husband and I did was walk a few steps to the beach and we were horrified. The beach was inundated with massive amounts of rotting seaweed and was completely unusable. It looked like dirty swamp land.
