Bernstorff Castle Hotel in Q&A

Information is provided based on reviews and may contain inaccuracies.

Where is Bernstorff Castle located and what is nearby?

The hotel is located in the northwestern part of Copenhagen, slightly away from the center, which is convenient for those traveling by car. A major highlight is the magnificent surrounding park featuring 4 to 5-kilometer-long trails that wind through open fields, forest, and Queen Louise's rose garden. Gentofte railway station is also within walking distance (about 15 minutes). Guests note that it is a peaceful oasis, ideal for walks and jogs.

Does the hotel have parking?

Yes, free parking is available on-site. Most guests rate the parking facilities as convenient. However, one review indicates that parking spaces may not be very large or could be limited during large-scale events, such as Christmas markets.

How does the front desk operate and how polite is the staff?

Opinions on the staff are divided. Some guests describe the employees as welcoming, attentive, and engaged. Others complain about rudeness, a lack of service, and an introverted staff that can be hard to find. Late check-in is handled independently via a key box, which some find convenient while others consider it too impersonal. There was a reported incident where a guest was unable to check in due to the absence of staff at reception and communication issues.

What kind of breakfast is offered at Bernstorff Castle Hotel?

Breakfast is served in the main castle building and is described by many as one of the main highlights: it is varied, of high quality, and served in a beautiful setting, with a terrace available in the summer. However, there are also negative reviews: some guests complained about the absence of certain items (eggs and bacon) during the first 45 minutes after opening, as well as "rubbery" rolls and a shortage of yogurt. It was also noted that during peak hours, it can be difficult to find an available table due to conference attendees.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Guests point out a very early check-out time of 09:00, which caused dissatisfaction among several visitors who called this policy unjustified. Check-in is typically at 14:00.

Does the hotel have a restaurant and what is the service like?

The hotel hosts banquets, gala dinners, and offers lunch menus. Opinions on the cuisine vary: ranging from "excellent food and service" to complaints about a lack of flavor and repetitive dishes (for example, salmon served for both the appetizer and the main course). Some guests noted odd behavior from the waiters and a lack of attention to detail, while others praised specific staff members for excellent service.

What are the room amenities and comfort levels?

Rooms are described as clean and functional, but very simple, in a Scandinavian style, and some are in need of updates. They are located not in the main building, but in annexes approximately one hundred meters from the castle. Guests note comfortable beds, but complain about the lack of refrigerators, small bathrooms, and outdated televisions. There are also complaints regarding plumbing issues: weak hot water pressure, clogged drains, and an unpleasant sulfur odor in the tap water.

Does the hotel have an elevator and is the building accessible for guests with limited mobility?

The hotel is not friendly to guests with limited mobility. There is no elevator in the building, and the walk from the rooms to the breakfast area can be too long for individuals with walking difficulties.

Is the hotel suitable for families with children and pets?

For dog owners, this is an excellent location, as dogs are allowed to run off-leash in the adjacent park. However, the hotel is not suitable for parents with young children: a complaint was recorded regarding a ban on bringing strollers into the castle and a lack of changing tables (guests were told to use the floor in the restroom instead).

What is the atmosphere at the hotel?

Overall, it is a peaceful and beautiful historical property, though the atmosphere depends heavily on ongoing events. The hotel is strongly oriented toward conferences and corporate events, which can make public areas noisy and the stay for regular tourists feel less cozy and more "business-like".

A beautiful and well‑maintained venue with excellent meeting rooms and a great atmosphere. We were here for a work meeting, and the facilities were impressive — spacious, elegant and perfect for professional gatherings. The basement bar is a nice bonus for events or social breaks. The lunch was truly delicious, and the service throughout was friendly and attentive. Bernstorff Slot is a fantastic choice for meetings, workshops or company events.

Beautiful location. The rooms are fine, clean but rather simple. Breakfast is in the palace and a real highlight! Lots to choose from and quickly replenished. Checking in with a key box is very convenient. Interactions with the staff were great. If I get the chance I would definitely come back.

This is a great location to stay, we had a car to move nearby. The rooms are fine and clean.
Unfortunately, we stayed weekend so there was no breakfast… neither reception… neither cleaning…
A different experience :)
