Danhostel Sønderborg Vollerup

Guest opinions are divided. A number of visitors describe the beds as old, worn-out, and uncomfortable to sleep on, noting dirty mattresses. In contrast, another guest reported that the beds were good. There are also mentions of issues with pillows, which may be lacking in some rooms.

Soundproofing at the hotel is rated as poor. Guests complain that everything happening behind the walls and on the floor above is clearly audible, including banging, noise, and shouting from other guests. This is particularly noticeable in the older part of the building, where noise from neighbors and the adjacent road can significantly disturb sleep.

Breakfast includes baguettes (flûtes), cold cuts, yogurt, oatmeal, cornflakes, juice, and three types of fruit. Some guests feel the food selection is too modest for the set price (95 DKK per adult), calling the cost unreasonably high. Meanwhile, other visitors were satisfied with the quality and quantity of the breakfast, describing it as good.

Ratings of the staff's performance vary greatly. Some guests describe the employees as lovely, friendly, and welcoming, especially the kitchen team. Others encounter rudeness, unresponsiveness, and difficulties communicating in English. There were complaints about requests for the front door code being ignored and indifference to noise made by other guests at night.

The hotel is well suited for families with children. The grounds feature a playground, trampoline, football pitch, zipline, and mini-golf. There are also animals—goats, kids, chickens, and rabbits—which delight children. However, some guests note that the play areas and mini-golf courses are worn out and poorly maintained, and access to the animals is sometimes restricted, contrary to the information on the website.

Guests report additional costs that are not always clear at the time of booking. In particular, separate fees for bed linen and breakfast are mentioned. There was also a reported case of a price discrepancy for a child's breakfast: the invoice stated 45 DKK, but 50 DKK was actually charged without explanation.

The grounds are described as a cozy place with historic charm and character. However, many note a general state of neglect and lack of upkeep: broken benches, dirty tiles, clogged gutters, and unkept common areas. The kitchen in one of the buildings was described as very dirty, greasy, and poorly equipped with cookware.
