The room, castle and the surroundings were great and beautiful, but the staff was grumpy and not very helpful at all. We didn't feel very welcomed at the arrival and the portier almost got angry at us because the key didn't work later on. Not exactly out fault! When we ordered a beer in the bar it took a very long time for it to be served and the waiter was unfriedly. We were also unlucky enough to stay there at the same time as some awful racist guests who openly said negative things about my skin colour and they didn't like us as a couple (my husband is Swedish and white and I'm adopted from asia by Swedish parents in the 70s). Everyone was completely staring at us in an uncomfortable way at breakfast and when we were walking in the park. I felt like these people never had seen a coloured person before. Of course we can not blame this last thing on the hotel, but I must warn other dark skinned persons from visiting this part of Denmark in general. There is a great risk you'll be treated badly because of your outer features, even if you are very proper (and expensively! ) dressed and well behaved. This was one of the worst stays in my/our whole life, and I can't recommend it to anyone. We were there for a romantic weekend to celebrate as newlyweds and we were both so disappointed. Therefore we left early to go to Copenhagen instead, in order to save the good mood we felt as a happy couple in love.
