Great place. Close to the beach. Clean. Quiet outside of the monkeys. And the hosts are incredible people. Highly recommend it to All my friends and family.

Best location, owners and comfort. Have stayed here many times and love it. Right across the street is a little patch of jungle and then the Pacific ocean. The 4 units in the back share a beautiful garden that is beautifully lit up at night and have well appointed outdoor kitchens! Great Wi-Fi, air conditioning and security too. How can you beat that?

Great little hideaway, tucked in the heart of Tamarindo. Easy walking distance to the beach, stores & restaurants. Andrew & Rowena are fabulous hosts who go out of their way to make you feel at home. The rooms are quaint & rustic with double bed, shower (LOTS of hot water, woohoo! ), free Wi-Fi and large covered outdoor kitchen complete with rocking chairs & hammock for lounging about and enjoying the local Costa Rica vibe & sounds.

We just loved the accommodation! Enough privacy, great view from terrace. Like being in the nature all the time. Lots of different animals are visiting the place to say hello :) Owners made us feel very welcome, gave us necessary information. To compare with other places double price on the beach with not that good environment even less luxury! Casa smillin dog is like a gem in Taramindo. Every evening it was pleasure to sit outside and relax! Big, very comfortable bed, huge shower, well air conditioned all the place! Very close to the beach and the center of the city.

We stayed at Smilin`Dog and it was a really good experience. The place has a great location. One block and a half from the beach. The garden is really nice. Andy takes care of it very carefully. There are iguanas, butterflies, birds and raccoons. Ro, Andy and Richard are really nice landlords. The room was big, clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was also very nice, big mirror and great hot shower. At night you can see the stars from the garden and enjoy your dinner at the outside kitchen. Thanks Ro, Andy and Richard for making my days there a very special time of my life.

I've been there twice before the major renovations that have just been finished, and it was superb. The complex is a short walking distance to shops, grocery stores, and nightlife, but far enough away to hear the ocean's soothing sounds at night. Some mornings you'll wake up to the Howler Monkeys nearby, and a 6 minute walk later — — (dress is light weight but not optional — — lol) you'll be walking on the white 11 mile long sand beach with a few dozen other folks. Costa Rican coffee is so darn good, with or without "additives" — — — — Your safety is assured by careful attention to ingress and egress from the complex. — — — — Note — — the room furniture has been crafted by local artisans from local woods in colors and patterns I've not seen anywhere else in my travels. Treat yourself, and come on down.

Sometimes you go on vacation and return home thinking "that was nice" sometimes you leave a special place already planning your next visit. Casa Smilin Dog is definitely a place you will want to visit time &again.
Andy & Rowena are exceptional hosts willing to share their local knowledge whether you want to take a day trip, rent a car or just know the best place for fried chicken they will steer you in the right direction so you don't waste one day in this tropical paradise!
The rooms are clean, modern and 2 have outdoor kitchens with all the amenities if you want to cook a meal and sit outside in the beautiful tropical garden, chatting about the fantastic day you just had.
The beach is directly across the street a perfect place to watch the sunset before you head out for a walk to experience the fun, vibrant nightlife in Tamarindo. Restaurants, bars, markets are literally steps away.
Lets not forget the Howler monkeys which you will spy swinging through the treetops in the garden or on the side of the road as you walk home.
Smilin Dog is a special place where you will want to return for the location, beautiful rooms, and especially the warm hospitality of your new friends Andrew & Rowena!
