Hostal Búho Amazonas Tours - Hostel

We had a great time here. Staying in the jungle was an incredible experience. The family were so welcoming and we felt right at home. The food was delicious comida tipica and the bed was comfortable. The facilities are basic — outdoor showers, no Wi-Fi and for most of our stay we had no electricity (due to a fallen pilon) but none of that really mattered and added to the whole jungle experience.
The tours were all great. We did the night walk where we saw huge tarantulas and other spiders, frogs, a huge toad and a snake! We visited an indigenous community and got henna tattoos, face paint and did paintings. We also went fishing for pirhanas and dolphin watching at sunset which was such a highlight. Carlos is an absolute machine, knows exactly what he's doing and where to look and is generally an all round great guy. Huge thanks to him for making our time so incredible.
Our flight home was too early for the public boat so we arranged a private transfer in the early hours, thanks again Carlos!
Would highly recommend this hostel and their tours and can only say thanks again to Carlos and the whole family for showing us such a great time.

Everything was nice, you can see stunning sunsets in front of the hostel. Hosts were so special and very attentive.
I recommend this one when meeting the jungle for first time since they guide you with every activity you may want in the jungle and river. Brenda is a great cooker and her meals are good!

I thought Long and Hard about writing a Review since many people Seemed to have had genuinely good experiences with them. The biggest problem are the extortionate prices for tours. The owner wanted us to pay 540.000 CUB for a dolphin tour for two people. At the different hostel further into the village it was merely 180.000 CUB for both of us. When wanting to go for a night jungle tour, he wanted us to pay 340.00 CUB, when at the different hostel we merely paid 20.000 CUB. When asking around the village, they couldn’t understand his pricing either. After realising this and telling the owner, he seemed to get annoyed at us and no longer really acknowledged us for the remainder of the time. Similarly, often no one was around in the hostel and the service was poor. The rooms are fine and clean, there is complimentary water at all times. The location is also very good since it is right next to the police station and the Amazon river. The food is also good but the food across all the hostels in Santa Sofia is the same and cooked by a group of local women. For sleeping this hostel is good, but for everything else, I would recommend a different hostel.

It has been one of the best experiences I have had. Seeing the stars at night was quite a spectacle.
The people in charge of the place are very friendly and the food, not to mention, delicious.
It is a place where you can enjoy even if you come alone.
The connection you can have there with nature is amazing. There are excellent spots to watch the sunset, bird watching, hikes in the jungle and other activities in which you can learn and interact with the community.
Hostal Búho vibrates with its colors that stand out with every ray of sun. It is beautiful, cozy and comfortable.

Hostal Búho is very welcoming starting with the people who are in charge. One of the great advantages it has is its location where you can appreciate the immensity of the Amazon River, at night you will find the most beautiful sky you can see, and you can enjoy local food and drinks.
It doesn't matter if you travel alone, accompanied, if they are small or large groups, you can do the activities you want with the Hostel managers, since their purpose is for their guests to have the best experience.
I am very grateful for that wonderful trip I had, and I hope at some point to be able to return.

Beautiful clean hostel right at the shore of the Amazon River. The host is friendly, kind, and helpful, and the community is amazing — I really recommend taking your meals with them if you can speak some Spanish. If you’re looking for a truly immersive experience with the indigenous peoples of the area, this place is a gem. The tours were a little expensive for me, but I’m traveling solo and I think if you were splitting it with a group, it would be more affordable. The tours are amazing though, and the owner will organize to take you anywhere you want to go. Highly recommended!

Excellent place if you’re looking for an authentic experience in the Amazon! The host, the family and communities around are exceptional, the service and food are excellent, as well as the tours experience. Make sure to bring plenty of repellent, night light, baggy long sleeved clothes, snacks and a charged powerbank! Definitely recommend.

We had a great time in Santa Sofia, the hostel is very nice and Aider and his family are welcoming. Food is very good. We recommend the trek and the night in the jungle experience. For us it was very beautiful and adventurous. …and try out the huito tattoo!

What an amazing, life changing experience at Búho hostel. Aider and his family are so welcoming and make you feel like you are at home. In addition, we have had a personalized schedule to discover the Amazon to its fullest. Night walks, sleeping in the jungle, crossing the river and looking for dolphins — it's only a few of the amazing activities that Aider organized for us during our 4-day stay.
When you go and visit the Amazon, please stay at Búho. I promise you won't regret it :-)
