As someone who has arrived to China not knowing how to speak the language, it was relatively easy check in process. They only needed my passport to verify the check-in. The only thing they advertise that wasn't available was shuttle services. When arriving at the airport, if you don't already have a visa, you must got to the transit line (as opposed to domestic or foreigners line) to fill out a 144 hour visa free form. Once you get through customs, be careful of those that come to you about taxi services before arriving outside to the taxi area. I got charged 250 Yuan when it should have only cost about 30 to get from the airport to the hotel. The other issue is that location on Google maps show the location to be on the other side of the road, so it took the tax driver going up and down the road a couple times before we spotted it. The room is small with the shower in the middle of the bedroom. There's no heat available so it can be cold in the winter months (about 50 f). I managed to heat the room up some by taking shower leaving the vent fans off. The nearest subway access is about a mile away or two (30 minute walk), but once there, it's only 5 Yuan to go anywhere in Shanghai one-way. To get there, walk out the hotel and head right. Keep walking until you see the bumblebee transformer statue on the left, an the take left on that street. Keep walking until you see the subway entrance in the right side of the road. It's a descent place to stay for a short time If you don't want to go far from Pudong airport. It's about an hour subway ride from the city center. You have to take a bus for about 5 minutes to get to the subway station.
