A busy train station for intercity train. We caught a train from here to Kowloon (Honghum) Hong kong just 2 hours journey, coach facilitated with restaurant cooking “real” chinese food. Tips: buy your train ticket few days before, the ticket is like hot cakes.
Quite well organized, if very busy station. Hong Kong departure was quick. Trains leave promptly.

Guangzhou East Rail Station has Z train that goes direct to Hum Hong station in Kowloon. It’s a two hour journey that is currently about $40 US one-way. You can get tickets at the station or order them online. I order online through China Ticket Online. The government’s toilet-upgrade campaign has not reached this station and most of the toilets are the squat type and not very pleasant, which is surprising for such a major transportation hub. There are western style toilets in the adjacent shopping mall. There is no ATM in the station. There is an ATM next door in the shopping mall as well. Be aware that during China’s heavy travel season in February that ATMs frequently have no currency to dispense. I learned this the hard way traveling to Kowloon from Guangzhou in late February 2018. Not one single ATM in mainland China that I tried on that trip had any currency.
