I felt like I had just entered an English cottage. It was very clean and comfortable with spacious rooms. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly while hotel is in a nice location right off the highway and close to Butchart Gardens. The only downside was that there are no laundry facilities on site and you have to go to the laundromat in the gas station next door. Other than that a great stay.

Our room faced the gas station and McDonald's. Their lights were right in my eyes when I laid down. The curtains were not wide enough and about 1/4 inch too short. The sun also came in about 5:15 am. Breakfast was good, but bar was not kept well supplied. Out of eggs for about 15 minutes. The waffle maker timer didn't always work, gave someone trouble every morning.

Had a great stay here. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable large rooms. Very reasonably priced. Pet Friendly.

Great quaintvlittle hotel with fabulous services and amenities. I recommend for anyone travelling in the Victoria area… and offering an affordable alternative to the spend Victoria hotels… and only 20 min from the downtown area. A real sweet spot for those looking for a little English Charm… without the big bill at the end of your stay! I highly recommend!

Surprisingly comfortable. Service has really stepped up. The rooms are clean and the pub is terrific. I have stayed at many other hotels in the area and this is by far the best value.

We went to the bar side of the restaurant, a large group of us had no trouble finding a table. Most of us had the wings, lots of different flavors to choose from. The hot wings were quite hot and the blue moon wings (blue cheese / hot) were quite tasty. Large amount of meat and sause on the wings, definitely left full and satisfied with the meal. Beer selection was pretty good too.

I was looking fro a new place to eat before the airport besides the white spot across the street. This place is amazing the kids menu has a good selection and the kids burger is big enough to feed an adult, the fish and chips was really good. Wednesday is wing night 49 cent wings with about 10-12 flavors I had the salt and pepper and dry Cajun they were really good not the best I have had but they are good some were on the smaller size and over cooked but beside that it was an overall good experience and I will definitely be back as the burger menu looked good.

We used this hotel for the park and fly offer. A party in the next room started around 11pm and did not stop until past 2am, and not thanks to the hotel management. We complained several times but the night person was laughed at and seemed afraid to confront the rowdy guests. The pub manager came, but was also completely unsuccessful, as the loud voices, swearing and laughter intensified after his visit. Then receptionist told us the police was on the premises, but that was for an incident at the pub. The walls are paper thin and the hotel seems afraid to lose party type guests. We slept a total of one hour.

Three of us arrived by bicycle from Victoria rather wet. No one was upset as we removed our wet outer gear. We ordered light fare that was very good and much appreciated.

Salad wasn't fresh and I asked about if burger patties where made in house or premade bad news premade. Service was excellent.

Very good wings here! Wing night is a must. And a solid selection of local craft beers. Service can be a bit slow at times but overall pretty good.

Charming Inn and Pub with friendly staff a d reasonably rates. Enjoyed a roast beef and Yorkshire dinner in the pub.

The Waddling Dog had decent food at a fair price. I wish the cook had used some seasoning on the sweet potato fries (there was none) and the English beef wellie I had was also majorly lacking in seasoning. My friend asked for prawns on the side and they arrive only about 1/4 cooked. They looked very underdone and translucent when they arrived, and she immediately spit them out, as they were raw.

It was okay. The restaurant smelled like pee and the meals were bland. Three of the four of us didn't finish burgers because of the flavour. The waitress was nice but was obviously overworked and had a lot of tables to manage by herself.

Cozy little bar where the pool is free. Food and beer isn't overtly expensive. Staff are plenty friendly.

Beautiful inn well located. Staff courteous & helpful. Attached restaurant busy & served gŕeat food. Would definitely stay there again.

Really comfortable. Nice linen. Headboards are annoying brass things, basically my only real annoyance. Breakfast was included, which has eggs, sausage, cereal, toast, a waffle bar, and an Oxford comma.

It was neat! Friendly staff. Very useful if you have to grab a flight at the airport.

We decided to go for drinks spur of the moment; it was quiet and not very busy, which was exactly what we were hoping for. The prices were average and pretty reasonable, the service was fast and friendly. I enjoyed my beer, my friend said her cocktail was fine, not the best but bit the worst. Overall would go again!

I always thought this place to be a steady stand by place to eat. Unfortunately my last visit left me wondering if I should ever darken it's doorway again. The special was Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes. Well, that was all you got, no veggie, no garnish, no nothing. Except a plateful of grease, I had to fold up a coaster and put it under one end of the plate to get the grease to run away from the food. Tasted good, but the plate needs s drain plug.

Very beautiful historical hotel! Rustic, lovely people, adorable dog, AMAZING restaurant, comfy beds and very clean rooms. Would and will stay again!

The staff is exceptional! We extended our stay, it felt like home away from home. John V is adorable. The breakfast buffet was lovely. The restaurant onsite has some really amazing dishes!

This Inn has a lot of character. The pub has great food and a wonderful beer menu. Close to the highway.

Let me start by saying that I loved the rustic style that the hotel has. It looks good! I stayed two nights at this hotel and was very disappointed with my stay. The room was clean and conformable. I would love a little more lighting but it was fine the way it was. One problem that I had with the room, was the fact that one of the hotel employees had his or her dog there at the hotel. My room had window to the back yard where the dog spent most of the time and quite often that dog would come and bark right under my window. Quite annoying trying to relax and having to listen to the dog bark. Also, I stayed at that hotel because a friend of mine recommended it to me. He said that the hotel's breakfast was great! Well, he also stayed there this weekend with us and according to him they changed the breakfast menu. Even thought the hotel says that it is continental buffet, expect only some hotdogs, eggs that have been purchased already pre-cooked and taste a bit like rubber. Bread is not fresh, aside from the fact that seems to be frozen. I wanted to drink a decaf and there were no options for that. I had to bring it from the room. No boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, waffles, not even hot chocolate. I was looking forward with a good breakfast and came out quite disappointed. On the over all the hotel has good looks and the rooms are ok, but breakfast needs to be updated to a level that matches what you pay for the room.

Service was good. Food waa good. Ambiance was adequate.

Has the atmosphere and decor of an old-timey inn. There's actually a waddling dog! The free breakfast is pretty good, and the bar/restaurant has tasty food. Good value for the rate.

Love the atmosphere of this place. Attached pub had live music and great food. Really friendly staff in both restaurant and hotel.

Outstanding customer service! After checking out, and after clearing US Customs at the ferry port, I realized I left two coats hanging in the room closet! My US cell phone would not regain service until we left Canada. Eventually, I was able to call the hotel, and they mailed the two coats back to me! Room great! Restaurant great! Pet friendly! And returned coats! When we go back, we'll definitely choose this wonderful facility!

Rooms are dirty and overpriced, not what I expected. Breakfast disappointing.

This place has a really great atmosphere and historic "old inn" feel. My wife and I would have had a really great stay; however, they really screwed up with a crib for our infant. We had requested it in advance and confirmed after we checked in. I guess there is one crib between 2 hotels so they had to retrieve it from the other hotel, which was fine. In the afternoon we were told that the crib was literally on its way and when we returned in the evening that it would be in our room. Well, we got back at about 9:30, well past our infant's bedtime with no crib to be found. When we called down to the front desk we were told that it had never been brought over and it would be 40 minutes for the crib to arrive. Obviously this was super unpleasant. On check-out the next day they reduced our bill slightly which was some consolation. Long story short, it would recommend it as a quaint place to stay but don't bank on excellent service. Definitely think twice if you need a crib.

I have lived in this area my whole life — 40yrs-, and stayed in many hotels while traveling. I have visited the "dog" pub several times over the years and had friends stay in the past, but I'm afraid the place has fallen into very poor condition. When I checked the place out today for anticipated visitors from up island, I quickly decided NO. The roof is in disrepair, halls smell "old" and I didn't even want to see a room after that. I went to pub to check out service. Played 3 games of pool by myself (albeit tables were free) waiting for some wait staff to acknowledge me. Nothing. I stood at bar for 2 minutes flat and got NOTHING from 2 waitresses and the bartender, who all made eye contact with me, as well as kitchen staff. There were 17 customers there at 750pm on a Friday night. I get better service at McDonalds. Im afraid this old landmark is nothing more than a derelict memory of what it used to be.

Stayed here last night and got a good nights sleep. I found it online and called in to book a room. They allow dogs but forgot to tell me on the phone that there was an additional $15 charge — it was not mentioned online either but at 1030pm who cares. The room was cute, it matched the outside of the building. No funky smells in the room, clean bedding/towels, soundproof windows, blackout curtains that almost blackout all the light. The bed was firm and the pillows soft. The room was spacious with a wardrobe, desk, side tables and armchair. The shower had hot water and pressure so the shower was refreshing. The lady at the front desk was pleasant. Finally, the breakfast was good. I have stayed at "better" places with the grossest breakfasts. Not the case here.

After a bad experience at a hotel in Victoria, we stayed at the Waddling Dog and ended up extending our stay for two more nights. If you like fuzzy warm character and a bit of old England as we do you will like your stay. It is very old and full of antiques and somewhat worn in places but that only adds to the character. There is a pleasant older lady at the front desk and an adorable basset hound named "John" who also works the front desk. They offer a really good hot breakfast in their dining room that is included in the price. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. It made our first holiday to Vancouver Island very memorable. Good value and very comfortable.

Well, I missed last ferry to salt springs so had to get a hotel for a night. I told Cabby I wanted a cheap place. He drove me to the not so Super Eight. I asked the woman behind counter for a room. Its upstairs (no elevator) She tells me its non smoking. I'm happy as I am a non smoker and price is right. Total $73 bucks. So drag all my crap up stairs and open door and the room reeks of smoke! I'm tired and decide to just open windows. Bed is not made! wtf?! Sooo go all the way back down stairs and get another. Back I go up the stairs to the new room, and to my dismay lights don't work!? I'm very annoyed at this point, but remain polite to clerk as I ask for money back. At this point I cross the street and go to the waddling dog not knowing what to expect. I walk in and am greeted by the little man himself. He looks up at me with adoring puppy eyes and wags his tail. The place is old and is a tad bit tired, yet so darn cute! Everything is quaint and in a Tudor style. The bed was so comfortable, I believe I had the best sleep I have had in a long time. Well worth the $30 dollars more than the not so Super8. In the morning a complimentary breakfast was laid out. I had a apple muffin, 2 hard boiled eggs, peach yogurt, and a glass of OJ. Very satisfying. I will go back if in area again.

This hotel has charm, it has an old English pub feel. But with this comes dim lighting in the lobby and hallways. It comes with the most charming basset hound named John the V. Very sweet. This is a pet friendly hotel which adds to the charm. The food in the restaurant was very good and adequately priced, but the decor is (hospital cafeteria meet legion), the staff very friendly and right there if you need anything but no need to dress for dinner. The rooms are large enough and the bed firm but comfy. They supply parking at a fee but not as expensive as the airport. They also arrange for a cab to shuttle you to the air port so you dont need to be concerned about missing your plane because the cabs were all busy. All in all this was a plesent visit and yes we would return.

After staying at the Quality Inn at Saanichton, BC (also known as the Waddling Dog Inn) I am left with an impression of a hotel in decline. The heater in my room was weak and barely able to heat the room. The free morning breakfast was limited with no scrambled eggs and sausages. TV channals were very limited. The checkin was cold and standoffish. Be wary of the bait and switch at the front desk. Double check the price for your room before signing anything. It's sad this hotet has lost its finer qualities over the years, for it may have been a nice hotel at one time. However I paid only $80.96 per night. I guess I got what I paid for. The Best Western Plus in Sidney would have been a better choice. Only $38 more.

There was on my wedding night. Only to find bugs anywhere. My husband and I after an hour it will be checked out and were away from us until 04:00 cleaning bugs. She claimed that she knew she had bugs, but on 16 August (two days before we stayed there) an another supporter checks the hotel (TripAdvisor. Com) complains about bed bugs and the reception didn't care. I have the story to the news. It aired, and the general manager stated that he would isolate the rooms. However the first bed bug "got me" in the lobby, and while this was aware, he offered no solution or the intention of the destroy the error in this area of the hotel. I tried emailing him, but he does not respond. The lobby is the central location to any hotel, and without the lobby is wiped out, it guarantees that each room, and the bar and restaurant are also these vermin infested with.

For your health and safety do not go there to eat, drink, or sleep! I have been going to, and staying at The Waddling Dog for close to a decade, and am horribly upset to see what has happened to a once beautiful and amazing place. They refused to serve me food because my shellfish allergy would force them to take extra time to wash surfaces, knives, and their hands. This is unacceptable and horrible. I personally know someone who worked in the kitchen and nearly died from black mold poisoning due to the excessive amounts of black mold in the dish pit of the kitchen. The restaurant was recently threatened to be shut down because of a rat infestation, and the cooks would attempt to stab rats with the knives they were using to cook with. This is most likely how my elderly grandfather came down with food poisoning from eating there, and nearly ended up hospitalized. Since I live very close by, and am close to someone who worked there for nearly a year I would occasionally still go to the pub for drinks. However, the last time I did this I was very upset by the fact that after having a few drinks the waitress didn't bring me a glass of water as I was playing pool because I was no longer buying drinks that cost money. Needless to say I stopped going to the restaurant or pub after such repeat horrible incidents. The icing, though, was this weekend. I got married on Saturday, and am taking a road trip for my honeymoon, but wanted to be well rested before beginning the drive.
