Le Mount Stephen

This hotel was fantastic. I spent a lot of time researching hotels in Montreal, including checking Google reviews and ChatGPT recommendations, and Le Mount Stephen lived up to the hype.
The room was beautiful, and the shower was one of the highlights—especially the lighting features. We also had a great patio area, although unfortunately it rained whenever we planned to use it.
The only minor drawback was the bathroom door, which slides on a rail and doesn't fully close, so privacy can be a bit limited. See stayed in 203.
Other than that, everything was excellent. The service was outstanding, housekeeping seemed to be constantly checking in, removing garbage and refreshing the room throughout the day, and turndown service was a nice touch. Ice delivery was also available whenever we needed it.
A special mention goes to the bar next door, which is stunning. Its historic, rustic character provides a great contrast to the modern feel of the hotel. Overall, a great stay and somewhere I'd happily recommend to anyone visiting Montreal.

The room was great, and it was the perfect location for me to stay at, since I was going at the Centre bell and wanted to be in the area. And the room service was good. But the guys at the desk really made me uncomfortable. I was feeling watched and they made me feel like I didn’t belong there. I am a young women, I am used to being looked at. That doesn’t give them the right to treat me any different than any other customer that enters the door. I really felt unwelcome and that feeling threw me off. I heard one of them make a sexual comment about a girl that passed by, which confirmed my doubts about their ethics and morals. That was not only unprofessional, it was disrespectful and made me feel unsafe in an environment that is supposed to be welcoming. I am just disappointed and sad that this is what we are confronted with as women.

This was our first time staying at the hotel, and I must say the hotel itself and the bar were exceptional. We truly enjoyed our stay.
That said, I feel it’s important to share a significant disappointment with my spa experience. I booked a massage with a friend at the hotel, expecting a high-end experience consistent with the rest of the property. Unfortunately, it was quite the opposite.
Upon arrival at the spa, I was unsure if I was even in the correct location. The entrance was extremely narrow and felt more like a closet than a spa reception. While the staff member at the desk was polite, no additional guidance, welcome, or amenities were offered beyond handing us a clipboard.
When the massage therapists arrived, their appearance was noticeably unprofessional. One therapist wore Sorel winter boots throughout the massage, and the other was dressed in wet, ripped jogging pants that dragged along the floor. This immediately detracted from the experience and felt inappropriate for a spa setting.
The massage itself was equally disappointing. Despite requesting lighter pressure and asking if alternative techniques could be used instead of constant knuckle pressure, the requests were not accommodated. The massage began with my feet without any foot soak or preparation, and during the leg portion the draping was poorly done, leaving me feeling exposed and uncomfortable.
Following the treatment, no water or post-service care was offered.

Gorgeous room with bathrobes, slippers, complimentary bottled water, coffee & tea. Quiet, spacious rooms. Self/valet parking at attached underground garage with direct access to hotel. Bar George is stunning. Great central location just steps from shop lined Sainte-Catherine street. Great restaurants & coffee shops close by. All. Hotel staff were polite, professional & accommodating.

For picky hotel people if you’re reading reviews and trying to decide* …… Beautiful hotel (in the old section), seems very historic (I think the date was 1927). Beautiful old craftsman’s woodwork everywhere in the entry / restaurant / bar area. Friendly staff. Breakfast / Brunch was good. However from the check in lobby area up to the rooms it seems to all be “new” (they should have stuck with the historic vibe) …. The vibe, I hate to say, in the new section is a mix of gotti, tacky and cheap. For example all the fireplaces are the fake electric ones which really intensifies the “cheap tacky” feeling (in my opinion), strong synthetic fragrance in the lobby seems to be infused into the air, glossy fake wood vaneer on the walls and doors, bright white lighting not warm, the rooms have super gotti rugs and a lot of AV tech in them with a mix of a cold / minimal feeling with cheap furniture. The sink faucets have little fake rhinestones on them and the couch was a fake aligátor skin with tears in it… if that tells you anything. Asked for Chamomile tea bags for the room and that was a no they didn’t have any and were confused when I asked, I thought this was a pretty reasonable standard ask at a 5 star hotel. This all said, its stated to be a 5 star hotel, the hotel staff is nice, it’s indeed expensive but the cost (i don’t feel) matches what you get…. I definitely wouldn’t consider it comparable to the Ritz.

My stay was exceptional. Hotel staff — from the front door to room door — was pure pleasure to interact with. I was pleased to see a hotel lobby that is both comfortable and rather expansive (for a hotel this size). My room was very comfortable and welcoming, clean and inviting. The hallway was satisfyingly quiet. Elevator that directly connected the garage to all hotel floors is a nice feature. I think Mount Stephen is comparable to the Ritz, Sofitel, Queen Elizabeth. I thought a pretty decent value. I'll return.

My experience has been great. The front staff are friendly and warm. This hotel has a concerige service and they are extremely helpful.
Everything is clean and polished. I booked with them for the location and convenience, however I didn't expect to like it so much.
If you are staying in Montreal I would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is beautiful and there are an abundance of staff to help with all your needs. The rooms are spacious and bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was amazing. The tub and shower were glass enclosed. Soaker tub could fit 2. Rainfall shower was amazing. Lots of hot water and complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There was even bath salts for the tub! What I didn't like is that there was no real accessible entrances. The front doors had many stairs, parking garage was down a steep ramp.

Enjoyed my one night stay here. Building is historic. Bar George, a Michelin star restaurant, is on the main floor.
Front desk was helpful and accommodating. We came here early around 1pm and was able to get early check in. Furthermore, I was pumping and was able to get a mini fridge for my room and store breast milk in the front desk freezer.
Loved these features:
— Couch.
— Heated bathroom floor and toilet seat.
— Rainfall shower and bath tub.
— Complimentary chocolates and water.
— Slippers and bathrobe.

I came to Montreal for the first time with my 16 year old daughter and stayed at Le Mount Stephen. The hotel was truly special. Great service, great hospitality and great experience overall! The front desk helped us and took care of our reservation in a swift and friendly manner. The room was really nice as well. A bit high tech for me, but nonetheless, it was truly a great experience. Room service provided turn down service each night and provided each of us a bottle of water and a small chocolate each evening which I thought was a special touch. The bathrobes were very luxurious, and the shampoo/conditioner did not fail. I would absolutely come back and stay at this hotel. The location was perfect. It was a brisk 35 minute walk to Old Montreal which allowed for some sightseeing. The weather was brutally cold, but with good warm hat and gloves, very manageable.
Great hotel, great experience, would very much recommend it to everyone!

Overall, we had a great experience at this hotel. Positives: Our room was large and modern and quiet, front desk staff is exceptional, bar and hotel is gorgeous. The bathroom was one of the most wonderful bathrooms we have ever experienced with an enormous shower room which included a huge bathtub, colored lights, and a rain experience shower head.
While we appreciated all the modernity of our room, including sound-proofing, the lighting is like being in a classroom with florescent lights and even my husband who is in tech had problems with the many switches. And there are almost no vegan options on the menu so in a 5 day stay we were not able to eat in the bar or restaurant. But I would still definitely come back when in Montreal.

We chose Le Mount Stephen because it was walking distance to Centre Bell. This hotel makes great use of a wildly ornate old mansion as its lobby and restaurant. Then the (notably quick and smooth) elevators whisk you up to your super clean, blessedly quiet room. There is a ton of fun tech to play with that is also highly functional and a very comfortable bed with both firm and soft pillows. However, what sets this hotel apart is the genuinely friendly, patient and caring service. Every single staff member we interacted with was kind and helpful. Special shout out to concierge William, who patiently and enthusiastically helped us get to know his city off the more beaten paths. We also appreciated the gym, and the beautifully done fresh flowers throughout the public spaces.

Beautiful hotel and very comfortable. The main old house part of the hotel is truly fantastic with it old carved wood decor and panels. The main staircase with its stained glass windows is a pleasure for the eyes. The bars and restaurants are lovely with a great range of high class food and very good service. All the staff were so kind and helpful. Our room was just great. The lights, blind and drapes are all electronically controlled. Sometimes though getting the light level is a bit tricky. The rain shower head is huge and has LED ambient lighting. The toilet is a smart toilet that will wash and dry your bum if you want. The bed was very comfortable but the Queen bed is a bit small for our liking. I recommend the King bed instead.
The only few small downsides are as follows:
1. Paper tea cups? No, for a 5 star hotel these should be proper China cups or mugs.
2. No proper stainless steel teaspoons, just a crappy wooden stick.
3. No English breakfast tea. They provide Earl Grey tea but this tastes very floral and is an acquired taste. Please provide normal everyday English breakfast tea.

The hotel has an old, historic charm but features many impressive modern upgrades that make for a comfortable stay. The rooms and common areas were very clean and well-maintained. Although the ongoing construction outside made access a bit tricky, once inside, everything was excellent. The staff provided wonderful service and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.

Le Mount Stephen is an amazing hotel. An extremely well done combination of historic and modern. The front part mansion has been perfectly preserved and beautiful. The rooms are ultra-modern with all kinds of technology and a well done layout. The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. The location is within walking distance of Old Montreal and much less busy. I highly recommend Le Mount Stephen hotel.

This is the best hotel in Canada. Hands down. This is my fifth time staying here, and I will be back again. Such an incredibly beautiful, historic and charming place.
The Chateau Frontenac is pretty, but internally disappointing. You will not face such an issue at the Le Mount Stephen. Excellent service, staff and an absolutely gorgeous property. Rooms are fully equipped with everything one would want.
I have traveled to over 40 countries in my life, and stayed at grand hotels in every destination. This one is firmly in the top 3 hotels in the world that I have been to.
If one can avail it, you should absolutely stay here. And have a drink at Bar George, one of the most incredibly beautiful places in the world.

We had a wonderful stay at Le Mount Stephen in Montreal. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm and welcoming, always greeting us with a smile. They even surprised our little one with a soft toy, which made him so happy and created such a thoughtful touch for our family.
The hotel restaurant is excellent, and I highly recommend dining there during your stay. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The location is also perfect, right in downtown Montreal with plenty of restaurants and shopping malls nearby.
Although the hotel is not very large, it is beautifully maintained, stylish, and full of great photo spots. It really has a special charm. We were a group of six and booked two rooms for two nights, and everything about our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
Whether you are traveling as a couple, with family, or even on business, this hotel is a fantastic choice. We would definitely stay here again.
