Upper Humber Settlement a FarmStay B&B

Cozy bnb near Gros morne and deer lake. Love the concept, permaculture farming and their support of the local community. We stayed in the sunset suite. They have a total of 4 rooms and you can rent the entire house if you have a big party. There’s a market in the front of the house with farm fresh products including herbs and fresh chicken/duck eggs. We would stay again but def bring earplugs as this is a house after all and you can hear everything.

We just enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay At the Upper Humber Settlement B&B. We were most impressed with the amenities, cleanliness and hospitality extended by hosts, Mark and Lauralee. We highly recommend this very reasonably priced accommodation.

We had a great stay at Mark snd Lauralee’s farm snd B&B. They were so friendly and welcoming and gave us such a great experience at their place. We participated in their farm stay experiences which included fireside story telling, foraging through the forest and their garden and then cooking all the food over open fire outside. The final night was an excellent meal all made with produce and meat from their farm. We stayed in the moonlit loft and it was clean and spacious. The whole B&B was very comfortable, nice sitting areas. Ingrid cooked amazing breakfasts all with food from the farm. It was the nicest B&B we stayed at in Newfoundland! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Upper Humber Settlement. A beautiful bed and breakfast situated on a sustainable farm. The owners Mark and Lauralee are clearly working hard to be successful. We enjoyed the Farm to Table dinner, the night we arrived. It was lovely. What an experience, combined with the spellbinding storytelling from Lauralee. She had us hooked from the moment she started. The four courses served with Newfoundland Auk wines were great. Every course was lovely and memorable. The room was very clean and comfortable. Our breakfast in the morning was great and cooked and served by a lovely lady. (I forgot her name, sorry). All the food was grown on the farm. What a great experience and one of the best stays we had in Newfoundland.

Truly a memorable experience. The farm to table dinner with storytelling was an experience in a class of its own. Lauralee told the story and is a natural story teller. She engages you and has you hooked on the story from the start. The meal, cooked by Mark was amazing. The room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was excellent and again hosted by a lovely lady who was very personable. A great stay and one of the best we had while in Newfoundland! Thank you both!

Wonderful evening of Farm to Table Dinner and Storytelling experience by Mark and Lauralee. This has been a highlight of our trip to Newfoundland! Our hosts Mark and Lauralee are welcoming and the dinner and storytelling experience was really special.
Their farm and B and B are worth a visit but we would highly recommend taking advantage of their experiences based stays!
Breakfast was delicious and everything we ate was produced on the farm. Ingrid cooked us breakfast and makes the homemade jams and preserves that are part of the breakfast. We are in a campervan for most of our visit to Newfoundland so we were able to stock up on fresh vegetables and preserves for our onward journey. Thanks so much!

We had a great time at the Upper Humber Settlement! We enjoyed a great farm to table dinner and a very informative tour of the farm! Lauralee and Mark are great hosts and their cat Oscar is a sweetie!

A gem tucked away off the beaten path to Gros Moraine Ntl Park in Newfoundland, definitely worth the detour. The hosts were welcoming and accommodating, rooms were clean and comfortable, the gourmet breakfast was a great way to start the day, and the special dinner that can be arranged came with a carefully curated pairing of wine or beer from a local brewery and a story of the history of the property narrated by the hostess. We had also reserved a foraging tour but due to rain the owner kindly gave us the option of cancelling. All in all, a memorable experience.

During our visit to Gros Morne, we immersed ourselves in a sustainable farm, foraged for our dinner, ate delicious breakfasts that were literally farm-to-table, and benefitted from 100% Newfoundland hospitality. Lauralee and Mark are gracious and passionate hosts and are building a farm for our future.
For those wishing to visit Gros Morne, note that this BnB is located over 45-minute drive to Rocky Harbour and the major hikes.

Pros:
Rooms were very nice.
Breakfast was great.
Owners were lovely.
Cons:
Wifi didn't work.
Fairly low water pressure.
Site was under some renovation and could have been organized in a more appealing way (some trailers in the front for example).
All and all, it's a lovely spot but could use a few small adjustments.

If you want a really unique experience, stay here. Hosts Lauralee and Mark are so down to earth. The B&B is on their farm, where they are self sustaining for various foods, veggies, pigs, ducks, chickens… If we are ever in that area again we would not hesitate to stay with them.

Don't know where to start! We had booked the moonlit loft, very comfortable with a great soaker tub. The common area is well designed with comfortable seating. Very nice hot breakfast to start the day. Lauralee is a super host! The charcuterie board was big enough to provide dinner for 2 … and the local craft beer was delicious!

The House Is almost Brand New, the young owners are very friendly and passionate about their way of farming and helping the community. Access to kitchen with everything needed and GREAT breakfasts. Quiet area. Hostess is very generous with information and ´newphonies’. Probably our best B&B in our 1 month tour of Newfoundland. The hostess speaks french. … et un très bon français 😉

My stay at Upper Humber Settlement in Cormack, Newfoundland, from May 9-12, 2024, was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I felt incredibly welcomed and at home, thanks to the warm hospitality of Lauralee and Mark.
If you're looking to immerse yourself in an authentic Newfoundland family environment, Upper Humber Settlement is the perfect place. I was fortunate to participate in all four unique experiences offered by Lauralee and Mark, each providing a deep connection to Newfoundland's land, heritage, and traditional cooking.
One of the highlights was the foraging experience, which culminated in cooking moose with alder cream sauce on a brazier in the garden. The meal was absolutely delicious, and the other meals were equally impressive, featuring homemade smoky bacon, moose sausages, and delectable date squares. The food was a testament to the deep-rooted connection Newfoundlanders have with their land and their culinary traditions.
Lauralee's gentle guidance during our jam-making session with wild blueberries was a delightful experience. Paired with homemade tea cakes and traditional Newfoundland music played on a vintage record player, it was a charming and memorable activity that offered a taste of the region's rich cultural tapestry.

Great visit to Upper Humber Settlement and would highly recommend to friends. My wife and I stayed one night, took part in the Farm to Table Storytelling Dining Experience and the Farm and Forage Experience.
The accommodations were very nice, clean and comfortable. The Storytelling dinner was fantastic! The food & beverages were amazing and Lauralee is a great storyteller taking us back to the trials and tribulations of the first settlers to farm the area. The Farm and Forage Experience was also exceptional learning about and gathering lots of the edible things around and consuming our finds at a lovely lunch outside.

We chose this BnB based on the many ​'rave​' reviews, the unique farm-to-table experience, and proximity to the Gros Morne region. We greatly admired all the hard work the owners, Lauralee and Mark, have put into their farm. On arrival, we were greeted with an informal tour around the greenhouses, extensive vegetable gardens, and animal pens. We also enjoyed an amazing meal accompanied by course-by-course storytelling. The accommodation itself was beautifully furnished and the breakfast was fresh and delicious! We even came by on our return trip to pick up some of Lauralee's preserves and fresh vegetables to take home. Genuine Newfoundland hospitality and highly recommended. Thanks guys!

We had an amazing evening at the Upper Humber Settlement! We had only come for the Farm to Table experience and it was even better than we could have imagined. Mark's food was absolutely delicious and Lauralee is an incredible storyteller! It was one of the best evenings of our trip to Newfoundland, we recommend the Farm to Table experience without any hesitation!
