We had an amazing time staying at O Veleiro in Rio. Richard and Rob (the owners) are absolute awesome hosts. The house is located at a relatively quiet and peaceful part in Rio but still close to all major attractions and conveniences.
Our room was spacious, nicely decorated and always kept clean. The breakfast is an absolute treat each morning and you can ask Rob and Richard anything. They're walking encyclopedias, so each morning we had more possible things to do than could… fit into the 24 hours ahead ;-).
This was our first stay at O Veleiro (11 nights), but it certainly won't have been the last! It was really nice calling this place 'home' for our stay in Rio.
Also, Rob is a licenced guide and knows pretty much all the nicer spots in and around Rio de Janeiro. When you visit, be sure to ask him about this and book one or more excursions. You won't regret, since these take you to beautiful places you won't ever see without knowing about them!
When we arrived in Rio we went by Taxi to pousada O Veleireo where we arrived after around 30 minuten from airport. One of the owners was waiting on us to give us a very warm hearted welcome which gave us a very homecoming feeling right away. We got a pousada tour and all information of Rio which we used to make a sight seeing plan for our 4 days staying. Our room was very clean and neat with clean towels and sheets every day. And actually we sleeped very well which is not always the case when we are in a new area sleeping on a bed which is not ours. Breakfast was served by one of the owners with full enthousiasm and healthy natural juices and fruit. Every day we got the chance to start our day with some city tour advice during a very good breakfast and great cup off coffee. Most off all we felt ourseleves really appreciated guests on a pleasant way. Nothing was to much for the owners and they helped us with every question and pro-active ideas. You really feel that they are passionated in what they do with eye for detail. We are really really happy with our stay at Pousada O Veleireo! So we really highly reccommend this place when you stay in Rio.

Rob and Richard run a wonderful business. I’ve never stayed in a cleaner, more beautiful place. Richard makes a terrific breakfast, Rob knows everything there is you could ever need to know about Rio, and they are both eminently friendly and professional. The resident tortoise is charming, as are their dog and cat. It was like being ensconced in a little slice of paradise, not far at all from the bustle of the downtown or the main beaches, yet also cradled in the tranquility of the mountainside. Perfection. I hope one day to return.
