We got to El Misti house Copacabana very early in the morning after a night flight. The receptionist was super nice, knew English pretty well and let us in before check in time. Was very nice of him and we are thankful for that. We booked a 4 bed dorm in order to have a bit more space and privacy than a big dorm. We initially booked for 4 nights. When we got to the room we were in total shock. The room was more like a sardine can. If I put my suitcase on the floor, the door wouldn't open (not enough room). There were mosquitos, and we had to put on our own bed sheets that we got from the reception instead of them being on the bed. The bed wasn't so comfortable either. Not only was the room incredibly small, the beds were old and kind of rusty, and the bathroom was dirty. The fosset is old and cranky, and as a matter of fact the whole place needs some serious renovation. In addition, the rooms don't have locks in the entrance and the door wouldn't close, and we found it very noisy and uncomfortable. I've heard recommendations about El Misti, so I figured maybe it's only our room and bathroom. But no. When I took a look at other rooms and bathrooms, I saw the same thing. A good amount of the rooms are small, dirty and old. The common area downstairs isn't that inviting, and I honestly do not see a justification for the high price. So we woke up after a few hours of napping and checked right out. Didn't even want to spend the night there. We went to Che lagarto Ipanema. And there is a HUGE difference. Rooms were clean and big, new beds were comfortable, parties every night in the common area and free caipirinhas. And for the same price. Before I would ever go there again I would check if they renovated the place, got it cleaned up or maybe just go somewhere else.
