Khamsum Inn

Khamsum Inn is a reliable budget hotel in the heart of Thimphu. Rooms are clean and comfy, equipped with AC, a fridge, and a bathroom heater (just switch it on upon check-in).
They thoughtfully provide separate bottled water for tea-making, saving the complimentary mineral water—nice touch!
The in-house restaurant is strictly vegetarian, which makes sense in Bhutan’s Buddhist culture where animal slaughter is banned and non-veg is imported from India. For meat lovers, head to Zombala (10-min walk away) for tasty options.
Staff at reception are warm and super helpful. Wi-Fi speed is average, though. One downside: the milk powder sachets were puffed up, so I skipped them for tea.
Overall, great value for budget travelers exploring Thimphu!

I stayed with my family here two nights my both kids loved the stay. They called me at 7 am on check in day to ask if I am all set for check in and what would be our food preferences. We preferred veg and without onion garlic and non spicy and wow when we checked in they were prepared Ema Datchi was awesome, Dal tasted so well with Paneer sabji and wheat pulka roties. I loved food, cleanliness space hospitality. Couldn’t ask for any better — thanks :)

We had a lovely experience. The rooms were comfortable, the food was delicious, and the staff were extremely polite. Special thanks to Suwan, Homraj, and Ashbdu for their kindness and professionalism, which truly made our stay memorable.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The rooms are not very spacious, but they are manageable for a comfortable stay. The hotel serves Indian vegetarian food, which is quite tasty; however, you do need to wait a bit longer for your order to be prepared.
A special mention to Mr. Sawan, the front desk manager, for his courtesy and welcoming behavior. He truly feels like a one-man solution, always helpful, approachable, and ready to assist with anything needed during the stay.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay, made better by the helpful staff and decent food.

The hotel location is prime just close to the market. The staff was very friendly and prompt. I came here to celebrate my son’s birthday… they not only arranged for the cake but celebrated together with us. They made my trip memorable…

The best aspect of this hotel is the hospitality — all the attendents and staff are very friendly and welcoming.
The second thing to appreciate is the food — very tasty, yet simple and easy on the stomach.
The main Thimphu market is walking distance so you can just take a walk to explore the entire market.

The location of the hotel is one of its biggest advantages. Situated conveniently in the heart of Thimphu, it allows easy access to many of the city’s attractions, shops, and cafés. I was able to walk to several local landmarks, explore the weekend market, and enjoy the lively streets of Thimphu without worrying about transportation. Despite being centrally located, the hotel maintains a peaceful and pleasant environment once you step inside.
What impressed me most was the personal touch in service. The staff were always ready to assist — whether it was arranging a cab, suggesting local places to visit, or simply checking if everything was in order. Their warmth and sincerity truly embody the Bhutanese spirit of hospitality.
During my two-day stay, I also appreciated the small details that enhanced my comfort — from the prompt room service to the seamless check-in and check-out process. The lobby area was inviting, and I often found myself relaxing there with a cup of Bhutanese tea after a day of sightseeing.

Great service! Rooms are good not great! Two girls Choki and Pema were helpful and cordial. One day on request they prepared us local food of our choice.

As they didn't have availability for my dates, as a vegan and this being the only vegetarian hotel in town, I only went to their restaurant for lunch and dinner. The place is clean, food tasty and the service was good but the wait time was long.

Everything was really good. Staff, food, service and the environment here was all lively. We all felt like staying in our own hometown.

I stayed here for 2 nights and had a really great experience. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The breakfast was also delicious with a good variety. Overall, I truly enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting.

Only suggestion if you could avoid even eggs (Though provided only on demand) never placed with buffet.
