Damchen Resort

Damchen Riverside Resort is a peaceful property located right next to the river, and that is definitely its biggest highlight. The Deluxe and Premium rooms offer direct river views, and being able to see and hear the flowing water from the room adds a very calming touch to the stay. The property has direct access to the river, which makes the location feel special and close to nature.
The hotel has a designated restaurant area for breakfast and dinner, along with a separate bar space. Please note that the breakfast timing is from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM, and dinner is served only between 7:00 PM and 8:45 PM, which is something guests should plan for in advance. Food options are limited but adequate.
The property itself feels older, though some areas appear to have undergone recent renovation. The hotel is largely staffed by female employees (around 90%) and given that it’s located in a quiet hill area rather than a busy city like Thimphu or Paro, the overall atmosphere is calm and simple.
The Premium room is comfortable and comes with all the basic amenities expected of a 3‑star hotel. The large window offers an approximately 160‑degree river view, which is very pleasant and makes the room feel open and scenic.
Location-wise, the resort is very convenient. It is right next to Garuda Café, Punakha, though staying at the resort doesn’t really require stepping out often.

This is an extremely beautiful property in Punakha with a riverside view.
The service of the reception was a little off because we were allotted extremely small rooms knowing that we were sharing. However they adjusted after repeated requests.
I would recommend this property for it's view, food and the location.

Excellent location, really next to the river, where one can spend hours watching the water flow. Very well trained staff, relatively compact but excellent rooms with a big washroom. Very well decorated, well maintained and homely atmosphere make this property special. Spent a night only, but should have spent a couple of days more… just relaxing next to the river.

Damshen Resort is a beautiful property with direct access to the river, offering peaceful views and a relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature.
The staff were super helpful, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay, always ready to assist and making us feel welcome.
The food was satisfactory but could be improved in terms of taste and variety.
Overall, it is one of the most beautiful properties in Punakha with its lovely riverside location. I would recommend it for those seeking a calm and scenic place to stay.

Lift is not there, their courteous staff carries the luggage to room, dinner and breakfast both were both tasty, right side you have the river view also you can go down to the banks of the river.

Room we got was okay for us as we stayed just for the night. The service is quite good.
The main highlight of the resort is riverside access.
There is a big park just outside with plenty of parking.

It was a wonderful experience at Damchen Riverside Resort which truly justifies its name. The resort is literally situated at the bank of the river. We had a deluxe room which was huge with a separate dressing area. The room was impeccably clean and aesthetically decorated with all amenities needed. But the USP of the room was the first sight of the river just flowing beside the windows and its sound. The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. Restaurant was also good. The lication is also central, just besidecthe vegetable market and very close to Punakha bazaar area. Will surely plan a stay there anytime we visit Punakha again.

The receptionist was not polite.
When I requested for a room change (the room had a strange smell) she told me you have booked a standard room only and the other room was deluxe. The hotel was not fully booked also as it is a lean season. When I checked on the internet I could only see standard room category.

For accommodations in Punakha, I recommend lodging near the river, with well-appointed rooms and resort amenities. Additionally, I suggest a visit to Garuda Cafe, located in a garden adjacent to the resort, during the evening.

A quiet calm place for relaxing beside river, food quality excellent.

I had a wonderful experience/stay at Damchen Resort, The location by the river (PunaTsang Chhu) is relaxing and perfect for foreigners (guest) after a day of sightseeing. It is close to Punakha Dzong (Fortress) and ideal for travellers (Esp. Senior citizens) looking for serene, quite and good service.
I would recommend my guest to book deluxe room for the best views.

The reception lady was so rude, she cancelled the booked room and gave us another room saying I've promoted your room from standard to semi deluxe but eventually I find out the given room was way to smaller than the one we actually booked.
But trust me there is ample of space to sit outside in hotel but they haven't invested the space to build rooms, rooms are so small and even if I check online couldn't find single picture which will describe the room space and we got scammed, please don't trust the photos, rooms are so small that you can not even put your feet down or walk a little. Food was good but still disappointed by the hospitality by the staff, specially receptionist.

Phenomenal place, right by the river. The best place to stay at Punakha.

Very satisfied stay an d food in the hotel especially the Indian chicken biriani rice, good taste a d the room service helpful and friendly. Overall quality is good. Recommended.

Everything about this place is great. Terrific riverside resort. This was the highlight of our Bhutan trip. If you are in Bhutan, do visit Punakha and if you are in Punakha, do stay at this hotel’s riverside room.

Had a wonderful stay at the Damchen. Beautiful location and property, spacious rooms. Food is very good too. Above all, the staff is very nice and always at the service to address any concerns or questions.
