Sugar Patch Inn

I rented a car from this company on a suggestion from a woman named Cheryl that was an acquaintance of ours from going there for some years. They pulled a con on us and ended up keeping our $500 deposit. Be careful of the owner of this facility, he is NOT a nice man and a rip off artist. Just always beware.

Not a good place. Upon our arrival we found the door would not lock, they did fix it within a few hours but we had to leave our things unattended in the meantime. After the lock was changed the door knob was so stiff my wife was unable to operate it. The beds were uncomfortable, the t. V. Didn't work, and the lighting was too poor to read. We spent the night inside because of heavy rainfall with nothing to do. The sink had only cold water working and the smoke detector was not functional. We had paid for 2 nights but checked out after 1 night. We had booked it on booking. Com so no refund. To top it off it was seriously overpriced. Do not go here.

Wayne was a great host. He gave us great tips about Hopkins and the area. He took very good care of us. We loved the deck and we had an awesome ocean view. Also had a hammock. Wayne also has cars to rent so we could go out and explore Belize on our own. Hopkins truly has the friendliest people!

Stayed here for 4 nights. Also stayed across the road at the All Seasons. Both very good places to stay in Hopkins. Sugar Patch is on the beach side of the road and a short walk to the beach. Great view from the balcony facing the beach with nice ocean breezes. There are only 4 rooms on this property. The 2 lower floor rooms face the roadway and have a covered porch. The upper 2 rooms face the beach and share the large 2nd floor balcony. Coffee maker and coffee in the rooms. TV that I never used, and a refrigerator, which I did use. Rooms are larger than the All Seasons across the street, but hot water is less abundant here at Sugar Patch. The property owner was on site while we were staying there. His name is Wayne, and he was very helpful. Additionally, he rents vehicles. Very convenient.

This place was great and at a very affordable price.
I read quite a few negative reviews and will say this:
If you want to be pampered, go a mile down the road to the resorts and pay 6X the price. But the resorts are too far from the village to walk.
The owner built Sugar Patch and manages it and I think he does a great job.
It is a great place in a beautiful part of the world. We were respectful and were, in turn, treated very well.
The room had everything we needed and wanted. We just ran the A/C in the evening when we were at the room. It is so close to many great parks, hikes, reefs and activities that we weren’t around during the day.
If you rent a vehicle from him and you return it a half day late, you have to pay more; but that is no different than other rental companies.
I will stay here again if I return to Hopkins.

Overpriced for the type of place. If it was half the price then it would be ok… And could be compared with other similar places in the Belizean market. The shower was broken and the ac not working. When I reported it to the owner I was accused of breaking them. Never had that experience before in Belize. I was shocked.

Very friendly place. The owner is very caring and engaged with the guests. Nice place to getaway at a pretty good price. Waiting to visit again.

Lovely peaceful location, fresh seafood caught the same day, polite and easy going staff. I wanted to get away from crowded hotels and reduce my chances of catching COVID also dedicated driver for day trips. Sugar Patch Inn was perfect.

Went on a business trip and stayed at the Sugar Patch Inn. The manager and his staff were very helpful. The inn was well kept and I had a great view.
Most of all the food including breakfast was great. Will return again some time soon.

We rented a car from Sugar Patch and had a terrible experience. The car had damage and scratches all over it, so much so that the woman who rented it to us took pictures and encouraged us to do so ourselves — which we did. I felt like the car was going to break apart on us when we were driving it but thankfully we got to where we were going and back safe. When we finally returned the car, which was a whole other story, the owner had the nerve to tell us that we put a new scratch on it and was charging us $500 for it. There was not an angle of the car that did not already have a scratch on it and I KNOW that we did not incur ANY NEW scratches. Wayne, the owner, is a total scam. He contested our claim to the CC company and we are still fighting the charge (this occurred back in early March). I will not let this go out of principle. We should have known better because when we were taking pictures of the scratches (before we rented the vehicle) the woman who rented it to us pointed out another car and told us that the owner was saying that the renter scratched it. Do not trust this business!

We are very happy here. We have the first half of our 3 week stay here behind us. We have two large beds, a bathroom, toilet and AC — everything is fine. We also have two bakones (one is covered), table, chairs, hammock and loungers. Short walk to the empty beach with shade under palm trees. The owner is very friendly and has already provided us an early bird breakfast directly on our large balcony and a snorkeling boat trip with island lunch. He is very attentive. Thanks so far.
