The options — We chose the Explorer package and it was well worth it, but we also loved simply exploring the trails near the lodge on foot. Had some of our best and most intimate wildlife encounters (i. E. Howler and spider monkey families) there! We also chose to fly in and out of Gallon Jug simply to save time, the flight was an adventure in itself and featured amazing views of the rainforest.
The lodge — From the moment we arrived and were greeted, our stay was exceptional. Great food and options, nice and clean cottage rooms blending in with the environment and the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. You are in the rainforest so we always had our camera ready, and the ocellated turkeys were everywhere! I chose to get up 6 a. M. Everyday to experience the jungle slowly awakening. Lots of colorful birds and things to see, and you have to explore all the trails on foot to experience it!
The activities — (Birding) walks, wildlife safaris, horseback riding, canoeing on the lake, all activities were great and you can't go wrong. Luis and Ruben our guides were amazing, super friendly, patient and great wildlife spotters! On our last night drive, we finally saw a puma. Don't count on it though (jaguars and pumas are elusive) but simply enjoy what nature chooses to reveal.
Chan Chich is an great operation, well-run and we'd always come back!

Chan Chich Lodge is truly a hidden gem for anyone who loves nature, comfort, and authentic jungle experiences. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, blending perfectly with the surrounding forest while still offering excellent comfort after a day of exploration. The network of nature trails is outstanding, allowing guests to immerse themselves in pristine habitat filled with incredible birdlife and biodiversity at every turn, a paradise for birders and wildlife lovers alike. Communication before and during the stay was clear and smooth, making the entire experience stress-free. What really makes Chan Chich special, however, is the staff: warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the place. Their hospitality elevates the experience and makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. A perfect destination for reconnecting with nature while enjoying outstanding service and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Arriving at Chan Chich was like arriving at a jungle paradise. We were welcomed by accommodating, flexible and friendly staff. People like Shawn, Ruben, Alias and all the others were outstanding and made us feel at home. The only way to feel closer to nature would be camping in a tent. However, the accommodations were so comfortable. The outstanding fresh farm to table meals were incredibly delicious, including the fresh coffee. Supporting the conservation efforts of Chan Chich and Gallon Jug Farm left us with a meaningful experience. We enjoyed many on site tours and one off site tour to the ATM cave. All were memorable experiences during which we saw many species of birds and other animals, geological wonders in the cave and Mayan Archaeological sites. We learned a great deal about the Mayan people and about Belize. I would give my highest recommendations to anyone interested in experiencing the jungle in a peaceful laid back manner that melts any stress away.

Consistently amazing place! Perfect mix of being able to just chill in a hammock or explore jungle wildlife. Visited 30 years ago and loved it just as much on the second go around.

Chan Chich Lodge was absolutely magical! It was the standout experience from our Belize trip. We had great tours with Luis and Ruben! Highly recommend the farm tour and the night animal tour. We saw puma, tapir, crocodile, foxes. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure we felt at home, which we absolutely did! Also loved meeting so many different people from all over. We will definitely be back!

Chan Chich provided a special home away from home for our 30th anniversary. The accommodation was just what we wanted, the food was EXCEPTIONAL, the talk on local wildlife an game cameras was amazing, the staff made us feel welcome and cared for. We cannot say enough good things about this special place, the management or the staff. Truly exceptional in all ways. I feel refreshed that such wild places remain and are cared for. We will be back soon.

We stayed in the villa, large space and should have been better for this upscale place. Mixed review and I don’t like being negative.
The good — the nature and outdoor properties and their conservatism work is wonderful. The guides Fantastic especially Ruben for his bird knowledge. And willingness to go the extra mile! (We had to request the management for more time for excursions and he happily agreed) We came for birds with the understanding that the lodge was known for them. It seems the focus has shifted away from birding….
The chef, kitchen staff were great. The maid service could have been a bit better.
The not so good — the limited activities scheduled…only one hour for morning bird walk…no ability to hire or bring in a guide for half day birding. The location is advertised as a destination for birding, one hour not enough. There should be multiple options. The speed of the night drive really did not provide opportunity to see much.
The bad — bats in the hot tub, toilet, plumbing, hot water problems, my companions (both MDs) reported bedbug bites.

The three hour drive was very pleasant great scenery along the way farms forest valleys villages. Roads were great until last couple miles lil bumpy. The Grounds of the Lodge has beautiful tall trees lots of birds and some wildlife. The pool has the freshest rain water. Dinners were excellent. Unique setting in unexcavated Maya Ruins. Hiking footwear is a must as is a binoculars. Very comfortable beds with mosquito net. Cabins are very spacious.

Really awesome place to get away a bit and experience the best of Belize's incredible natural preserved resources. A highlight was tour of farm and introduction to regenerative agriculture. Everyone there went out of their way to make us feel like royal guests. Not the place to be if you prefer Hard Rock Cafe-type resorts but a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature.

Our stay at Chan Chich Lodge was unforgettable, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. The staff here are incredible—warm, thoughtful, and genuinely passionate about the land and its wildlife. Their care and knowledge made every day feel meaningful.
The nature walks were a highlight. Hiking through pristine rainforest with guides who truly understand the ecosystem gave us a deeper appreciation for everything around us. And then—something we’ll never forget—we actually saw a jaguar in the wild. It was a moment of pure awe and stillness, the kind of experience you hope for but never expect. We’re still talking about it.
We also loved canoeing on Laguna Verde. The water was peaceful, the soundscape was alive, and it felt like we were completely immersed in nature in the most serene way possible.
The day trip to Xunantunich was another wonderful experience. The staff helped make the logistics effortless and our guide brought the history to life in a way that was engaging and easy to connect with. Standing on top of the ruins and looking out across the jungle was breathtaking.
Back at the lodge, the food was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Even just relaxing on the porch or dining space felt special, with wildlife all around and a calm atmosphere you don’t find many places.
What truly sets Chan Chich apart is the feeling of being welcomed—not just to a lodge, but to a living, protected piece of the world that the staff are proud to share.

The family and I spent a long and lovely weekend at Chan Chich, and we absolutely loved it! There was something for everyone!
My brothers signed up for the night drive and horseback riding, the coffee lovers booked the Farm Tour (which includes a tour of the coffee plantation and roasting process, ) those who wanted something relaxed got to lounge at the pool or do a self-guided walk around the lodge. We got to see endless deer, birds, foxes, and many other critters. The staff was welcoming and accommodating.

The staff was super friendly and helpful making our stay very relaxing. This made us feel welcome from the start. Only regret is we should have stayed longer considering the long off-road drive from San Ignacio. Also did a night drive and the guide was amazing and very knowledgable.

I stayed at the lodge for three nights and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. From the moment I arrived, it felt special. After the trip in, being met at reception with fresh juice and cold, scented towels was such a welcome start.
Getting there is part of the adventure. You can either drive about three hours from Belize City or take a 15-minute flight into the airstrip on the property. I drove in and flew back, and I’d recommend doing both. The drive gave me a chance to see the countryside and small towns, which made me feel connected to the country. Flying out was quick, easy, and gave me a whole new perspective, looking down at endless rainforest.
The lodge is extremely secluded, and that’s what makes it so special. It sits in the middle of 30, 000 acres of protected jungle with a 3, 000-acre farm that supplies most of the food. There are only 16 cottages, so it feels quiet and private. Wi-Fi worked surprisingly well in my cottage, so I could connect if I wanted to.
The farm tour was probably my favorite excursion. I spent the day seeing the horses, cows, chickens, ducks, and the coffee plantation where they roast beans right on site. I drank coffee fresh from the plantation, walked through greenhouses full of vegetables and peppers, and saw banana and papaya trees everywhere. Pretty much everything served at the lodge comes from that farm, and it was all excellent.

Must have destination for wildlife and nature lovers! The lodge is a unique and amazing place. It is nestled within a huge land mass of farm land and jungle. The human population is very low in the area so the wildlife isn't as skiddish. The wildlife doesnt come rite up to you, but you have a good chance to see a variety of it and get pics.
Lodge is clean, well maintained, food is farm fresh, staff is very friendly and accommodating. Great place to unplug fro thr every day world and enjoy nature.

Chan Chich Lodge was the best place we stayed in Belize on our honeymoon hands down!
We rented a vehicle to make the drive from Belize City, which was an adventure in itself :) but totally doable. Don't let that scare you away from staying here, the road really wasn't that bad!
The staff was so thoughtful and considerate, they really made our stay unique and memorable.
The menu at the restaurant was different each day and each meal we had was absolutely perfect ❤️ kudos to the chef and great serving & kitchen staff!
We did a horseback tour with exceptional cowboys too! The horses were well trained, healthy and our guides so knowledgeable answering all our questions. What a great group of talented horsemen ❤️ they made sure everyone felt safe every step of the way.
We even met the General Manager while at the stables, a very friendly fellow and you could tell he cared very much about his staff, the animals and his guests.
Lastly, if you want to see wildlife, this is the place! Right out our front cabin door we watched a doe and her two fawns grazing, a handsome buck, wild turkeys and so many other beautiful birds.
I hope we will come back for our anniversary in the future and stay longer with you ❤️

The journey to the hotel was very uncomfortable and took four hours in a pick up truck. The road is very rough and bumpy which the truck seemed to exaggerate and luggage was loaded on the back seat of the passenger and therefore slid over the passenger in the back. If we had known this we would have flown to the lodge for the few extra hundred dollars.
One of the attractions of stay in here was to see one of the Mayan sites but unfortunately this would have cost up an extra US$500 which we considered a rip off. The lodge offered various excursions around the lodge area which were not hugely interesting. However the guides are very attentive.
We stayed in the only cabin with AC which was very comfortable and well appointed. Other people were struggling with the lack of AC in the rooms. Also the other cabins had mesh windows.
Food was good and friendly and chatty waiters.
As one of us was recovering from a shattered elbow we managed to persuade the reception manager to take us to the airport in a transit people carrier which was much more acceptable.
