I think this place is pretty good if you stay in the shared bedrooms. The main house is dark and not enough windows to let the sun shine in. It’s clean and not too far from the well known Miami beach. As per the private room, it’s a wooden shack built behind his house. It did have great air conditioning, which I really appreciated since I arrived with food poisoning and couldn’t get out for two days. However, the stove in the room as well as the TV was not working. The bed was small and against a boiler which made me feel kind of unsafe. There was also a water shortage upon my arrival which due to my terrible condition it was a huge problem for me as I couldn’t wash myself. I also asked John to please check on me on the following morning as I was very scared of being sick in a room alone and he didn’t. Lastly, apparently, there is a 15 Barbados dollar taxes that according to John only some guests have to pay. This tax was not written anywhere on my receipt but apparently it’s on his. He was willing to let go of it after a few exchanges and was kind to offer me a towel free of the 5 Barbados dollars charge. As for the mosquitoes mentioned in previous reviews, it’s indeed infested with it, but that is not something I think He can do much about it.

I can’t recommend John’s hostel enough! Such a lovely host, he was always very responsive if we had any issues and would go out of his way to help us with other questions we had about the island itself. The location is great if you want to get a feel of living in a real neighbourhood, neighbours were always friendly and helpful and it’s only a 10 minute walk away from the main road where the fish fry is and Miami Beach. I will 100% be staying here again when I next visit :)

Brilliant homely little hostel, good locaton for Oistins fish market, buses into bridgetown, room to park a hire Car or an rented bike.
Clean basic rooms, lovely air condition unit in room, comfortable beds, hand wash & tolet rolls provided. Good kitchen/ Dinning/ living room with TV. Warm welcome, helped & looked after by our host John.
Like any hostel keep the kitchen area clean, washing up liquid is provided…
Top tip… take a drying up cloth with you!

Host was rude beyond comprehension. I believe he's racist, but it's hard to prove.
Room was so hot, nobody was able to sleep.

Located in a quiet neighborhood, very comfortable and 15mins walk to the beach. Host was very kind and accommodating. I enjoyed my visit ☺

Nice quiet “cheap please “ to stay in this wonderful island. Walking distance to both beaches and village where I made my holidays. And Jo was very helpful and generous as a great companion for conservation. Definitely recommended 👍

The review is the lowest I could give. The place was disgusting. No one to greet you. The curb appeal was non inviting. Enough mosquitoes to catch dengue. Read all the reviews. He only comments respectfully on the positive reviews. If your review is negative he rants and raves in improper English. Most reviews were long ago.
Let me say this. If anyone want to spend his/her hard own cash in such an establishment that’s on you. I made that mistake once. Never again. I have all the texts between him and I when I stayed there. Respond to my review and I’ll email all to you. Before you book this “hotel” I beg you to take look at other reasonable hotels in much more safe environments.

Jo is a great person always ready to help and goes the extra mile for his guests. Also he ensures you meet everyone in the hostel so is perfect for meeting people. He even did a get together to say goodbye to some of his guests with some home cooked food and drinks. The whole hostel is spacious and very clean and it has a terrace. The location is very near to the beach and the friday night market although the hill is steep but doable. I'll stay there again.

Oh wow, I know this is coming late. But I want to specially thank Mr. John for his hospitality. It was indeed a unique experience that lead to our path crossing. On the 13th of January, 2020.
I can recommend any one there.
The place is clean, comfortable, a place you can call home away from home even though my visit was short.
I am giving him a 5 star for everything because truly its well worth it and you get value for your money either for a private room or a share room.
Mr. John takes pride in making his guest feel comfortable, for this I say thank you.
Hoping to see you when I visit again and trust me am coming back there.
