Graycliff Hotel

This is a review of the wine maker experience. It was fun, but nothing as described. It was not lead by a person with 20 years experience (he was about 19 years old) and we didn’t taste wines from around the globe, nor did we learn anything about the wine making process. He didn’t even know where in Italy the grapes came from. It’s worth about $30 just for the gimmicky experience, but this is not a serious class and is nothing like the description on the web site.

Very dated rooms. And I hate it when people lie to you.
$811 for a room with breakfast included.
And then they charge you $70 dollars extra for breakfast. Coffee, croissant and eggs Benedict.
Yeah that sounds like included.
Scam artists.
Go spend your money somewhere else.

My husband and I, along with 16 other guests of my company, did an excursion to Graycliff Hotel for a six-course meal with wine pairings for each course including a welcome cocktail. We had the opportunity to tour the wine cellar before the meal. Everything about this was excellent! Fabulous food, delicious wines, and great company (although we didn't know one another going in, we were fast friends when we left! ). The food was not heavy and did not weigh you down and the portions were just right. It was a gift!

Popped in for a Sunday lunchtime drink. We're made very welcome and the wine was of a very high quality and properly chilled. So pleased to find this oasis amongst the clatter of modern accommodation.

We walked up from cruise ship a year ago. Bought some stuff in their nice gift shop. Then proceeded to main entrance. Was going to check out lobby and bar. They refused our entrance. We are world travelers and would recommend the gift shop but not the hotel. They are rude people. We will be in port again February 10. We can scratch them off of our list. We have never been treated so bad.

Not a bad place. But is it worth $600/night? Definitely not. $250-300?, sure.
Our issues were these:
— breakfast is "included" yet somehow by having water and bacon with our free breakfast it was $45. And they had to ask me what hot chocolate is. It's on your menu, don't ask me how to make hot chocolate.
— it is LOUD. Weekend and weekday they talk down in the street and in the lobby quite loudly late into the evening. It made no difference if the windows were closed. Not pleasant when you are trying to rest from a long day with an early start each day.
— the lobby smells quite heavy like cigars. We had no idea the place is also a cigar place… my wife's asthma was not happy with that.
— parking: you can sometimes park by yourself, but they really like to park for you. I guess that is part of being a 5star place, but I prefer to park myself and keep my keys. It is a narrow BUSY street though, so them parking your vehicle is not a bad idea.
The good:
— the pool is fantastic. Probably 12 feet deep, well maintained, and beautiful.
— the room was amazing. Water didn't get as hot as my wife likes, but definitely not bad.
Beds were great and everything was super clean.
— in great shape for a 300 year old hotel that gets ravaged by hurricanes all the time.
— good location if you want to be able to walk the old part of the city like we did. You can easily walk to the pirate museum and the main cruise-port.

My wife and I booked a wine lunch and win tour. It was a 5 course lunch. The food was fantastic and the service was amazing. Nysan, derek and johnni were fantastic. The wine tour was very impressive. Nassau old charm at its finest. Cigars are allowed in the main lounge area. Graycliff cigars are fantastic. Highly recommend!

We had Tea at the hotel and had a wonderful time, I took my wife and daughters there for tea and we had a great afternoon enjoying good food, tea and conversation and just realxing, we highly recommend it. It takes about an hour and half to fully enjoy it and not be rushed.

My wife and I went there for the tasting lunch and we're thoroughly impressed by the unbelievably professional wait staff that appear to have been there for decades. Be prepared for a 5-course tasting menu paired with five different wines. Be sure to tour the grounds and the largest Wine Cellar in the world. An absolutely unbelievable experience underground seeing bottles from the 1800s and even one from the 1700s.

First and foremost, I want to commend the hotel for its exceptional customer service. I had the pleasure of speaking with a young lady at the front desk regarding plans for my business partner and me to bring our families to this wonderful historic hotel and restaurant. She had a pleasant and patient demeanor, answering all of my many questions with professionalism and kindness. Her helpfulness truly made a lasting impression.

While I did not stay here, I still got to enjoy the hospitality and amazing lunch service. Best food we had in the island. We were lucky that the sommelier was in and we got to tour the wine cellar — WOW!

Restaurant-Be careful. We visited here for lunch on Wednesday. For a cup of soup, steak frites, a bottle of water and a Diet Coke they charged $115.20. I didn’t anticipate a place like this taking advantage of visitors, but they did.
The atmosphere is historic, unique, and worth the visit, but be careful as they will overcharge you substantially from the menu price.

I used to love going to Graycliff until I had an experience that reminded of a time I thought had passed. I frequent Graycliff for pleasure and business. Notwithstanding when I tried to take my father who is a black man for drinks and cigar early on Friday when the lounge was completely empty he was denied service for wearing short pants. There are no signs to this effect and I myself have been there in shorts along with others. No warning, no compromise just a refusal to serve. I can say with certainty it is not the fault of the owners but rather the fault of over zealous and quite frankly racist host. I would not suggest going here as a black man and certainly not as a black Bahamian until the host is removed or retired. I will be making a formal complaint as well for this embarrassing experience. A Bahamian man who is dressed nicely should not be refused service in his own country. This is shameful.

We often visit Naussa, Bahamas from cruising and take a taxis to this property to get their cigars. Only on our 7th time we realize how close to the port the hotel/ establishment is… less than 15 min walk! The taxis are a rip off and take you on a long route that makes it look far from the port. The tours/ cruise lines make it seem like the property is far. It’s a safe walk minus the narrow sidewalks so keep that in mind when walking: Just walk pass senior frogs, stay left and go straight. Use maps if needed. I will attached photo. The hotel is gorgeous in therms of old English luxury which transport you back to that era. The hotel I agree with other reviewer is a bit tired and can use more care but still stunning non the less! Worth a visit. The staff is friendly with that signature Caribbean hospitality! Especially staff Major, he was charismatic and all things wonderful about being greeted making you feel at home, he clearly hold the Greycliff close to his heart by how proud and full of love spoke about it. The joy on his face just talking and showing us a bit of the property was enough to sell us on a land visit for next time to the Bahamas! Thank you for taking time and can’t wait to stay here. Honorable mentions of staff also: Maurice and Elec whom was friendly and welcoming as well! I may be forgetting a 4th gentleman. Sorry. The lady at the desk was a bit uppity but warmed up to us because of Major. Overall great experience and can’t wait to visit.

I cannot comment on the hotel as I did not stay overnight. We booked a day pass while on a cruise. It was expensive. As to the pass itself, service was practically nonexistent except for the gentleman who assisted me in getting to the pool due to mobility issues, Mr. Cool, and then later 2 gentlemen who assisted in helping us finally get our lunch and a taxi, Smith and Lavado. The pool was dirty and disgusting and filled with bugs. The food itself was not appetizing. And forget getting water promptly or even a drink. This facility has no business selling day passes and any company that does so should reexamine its policies.

Don't waste your time and money visiting this terrible excuse for a hotel.
We have visited the Bahamas several times in the past 4 years. We were looking for something different to do, and after reading online reviews we chose a visit to this hotel. Arrived after an expensive taxi ride, to be told there were no staff to serve us. This was a Tuesday afternoon, well after lunch time, and the temperatures were dropping off, so no reason to close up facilities due to the heat. The 'reception' guy was a mature fellow, and half asleep, telling me that no staff could be available to serve us. This is meant to be a 'go to' venue for tourists and boasts great service and a unique experience. Yes it was unique, in so much as it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a hotel, especially one that is supposed to offer great service! I would not recommend a visit, not just because of my experience, but the website is terrible, and clearly the place cannot be bothered to 'go the extra mile' for paying customers. The place looked and smelled old! Don't waste your money visiting here.

Graycliff Hotel, located conveniently in Downtown Nassau, is close to the US Embassy. Known for its 5-star restaurant with top-notch service, it seemed like a promising choice.
— Cost: Prices start at $400+ per night, so it's not a budget option.
— Arrival Experience: Upon arrival, we were greeted and offered help with our bags, which was necessary due to the numerous stairs leading to our room. Walking through the path, we passed by some dilapidated lion statues and overgrown palm trees.
While the hotel has its charms and unique style, the outdated decor and initial room issues were a letdown.
However, the staff's quick response and the delightful pool area somewhat made up for these shortcomings.
