Beautiful area. I don’t recommend going in the heat. Wear comfortable shoes as its a pretty large area with many small hills. Wide selection of restaurants and shops. Great place for tourists!

Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan, a very beautiful city in itself, and its heart is the old city — Icheri-Sheher, just a fairy tale. Very colorful, cozy, the smell of antiquity and local treats. Narrow streets, decorated doors, wall, Maiden Tower, shooting places "Diamond Hand" — great. A leisurely walk turns into an exciting and full of positive emotions adventure. You will see Ali Shamsi's workshop, the Palace Mosque, the Baths, the Shirvanshah Palace complex, the Sheshahi Gate. Admission is free, next to the main entrance is the metro station of the same name, which is convenient. In Icheri-Sheher, the pavement, as well as almost all the center of Baku, needs comfortable shoes. The maiden tower is beautiful from the outside, there is something fabulous and alluring, the entrance is paid 12 or 15 manats, inside in the course of movement, on the stairs, paintings, installations with historical facts, and at the top of the observation deck, but there is a high glass, dirty enough and dirty Photos can only be taken with a selfie stick. If you're a lover of history and the old spirit of the cities this is a very good place to take a looooong walk. I remember wandering there for about 5 hours before sitting in a coffee to keep admiring the view of the old city walls. I recommend visiting this place by day and also by night, since it looks very different and very unique at night too. And less crowded of course. It's better to have a local guide, if you're interested in the history, it's very useful.

Old city of Baku is a great place to walk around. I would recommend going there once and mostly hanging around the fountain square after. Prices in old city tend to be higher although there are some. Nicer brunch and dinner places that are. Largely catered toward tourists.

It's a beautiful place! But minus the point for the fact that there are a lot of cars. They don't seem to be there at all! It's an old town, a historic place, cobbled roads, narrow eastern streets, carpets, bearded men sitting on the carpet spread out on the floor and playing backgammon. Place is beautiful, but there are too many shops and restaurants inside. I think would be better to conserve such a place from business.

All major consulate offices are also located in this area.

We stayed in The Old City in one of the many good Hotels that are there, some good historical sites to be visited. There is a very good selection of Bars and Restaurants situated here as well. If your not staying in the Old City I would recommend a visit anyway!

Awesome architectures, beautiful culture, day time and night time you can feel differently. Very cultural, impressive buildings and people who is working there as sellers. Don't forget to walk through narrow streets inside and find some interesting things…

Absolutely beautiful. Architecturally, artistically, culturally satisfying experience. It is an amazing place to just roam around. There are plenty of cafes with proper heating. There are at least 2 museums that I know you of and lots of souvenir shops.

Icheri-Sheher, or "Old Town" is an old quarter in the capital of Azerbaijan, the city of Baku. It is a historical and architectural reserve, the oldest part of the city and its main attraction. On the territory of the quarter the ancient fortress walls and various fortifications dating the Middle Ages were perfectly preserved. At present, about 1300 families live in the territory of the reserve. There is a huge number of historical monuments. I'll list just a few of them.
The Maiden Tower. It is part of the ancient Baku fortress, and is located in the southeast part of it. There is a historical version that in ancient times the tower was a chapel of fire, so it could be built back in 8-7 centuries BC. However, it is officially considered that it was built in the 12th century on the site of the old building, which belongs to the pre-Islamic religion. At present there is a museum in the exposition of which exhibits are found in the well of the tower. There is also an exposition of cold weapons.

We were delighted with the old town. There are many fortresses and old walls, places really historically important. From here you can enjoy beautiful views of the city. Very nice old town with small narrow streets and some craft shops. All good to reach on foot.

The old town must be visited unequivocally! Color, originality. The whole experience spoiled the excursion to the Maiden tower. In itself, of course, the tower does not require any ratings-it is gorgeous, but the work of the museum… It was disgusting! Practically nothing worked: no inform. Screens, nor computer "bells" on which (on story about opening after restoration) it would be possible to get acquainted with history of a tower. You can experience the old and lost sides of Baku. Better, take an evening stroll in the lanes and by-lanes, and you will hear the houses speak for themselves.

This is home to many historic buildings, the famous shah Suleiman palace, and amazing architecture. You can either take a tour guide to visit this place, or just take a day to walk in the streets and appreciate the beautiful architecture, museums, and shops around here.

I remember first seeing the old city while watching the F1 race and knew I would visit when I got to Baku. It's smaller than I anticipated and you can easily walk around in 1-2 hours. Lots and lots of old town around the world. Baku is not the largest and not the most favorite. For me it is "yellow City" almost because of the monocolority in my perception. And there are no guards opening the gate as puppets at the exhibition in the cultural center. Aliyev.
