We were looking for a nice ski resort in Austria. Thanks to Telegraph we found Obertauern, casual ski village. No fancy cars, no Russians (sic! ) only casual people loving to ski. Kohlmayr Royal Hotel website offers great renovated rooms and proximity to slopes therefore we have decided to book Panorama Suite for our winter holiday. Expectations were great as the hotel was rebuilt last year… We arrived and the parking lot, as promised, was waiting for us as well as a very warm welcome at the reception. All fluent English. Room was perfect and exactly as the website describes. The bed was firm and very comfy. In terms of food you get buffet breakfast with live cooking station, four course dinner (meat, fish, vegetarian option available) and great selection of wines. Breakfast is served from 8-10, snacks from 3-5 and dinner from 7-9. Then there is a bar, cocktail bar. Our Hungarian friend ruling the bar can speak multiple languages and prepares old classics, perfects gin and tonic (Monkey 47 is served there). To get the special treatment from him you have to learn about Omega and "Göngyhajú luny" but it is worth to do it. To get the story short, in a perfect Austrian alpine village you get designer room, friendly family service over grandma food and top drinks. Could you get any better? Try kaisershmarren at FreiWILD and apres ski disco at Luther Alm. In the sunny day there is an outside lounge where you can enjoy sun and gruner veltliner! And the hotel is smoked free from January 2017!
