Excellent hostel, great facilities lovely friendly staff very clean and great value for money close to the city nice rooms different activities provided and the people here are great, they really do a top job here, highly recommend.

One of the best hostels I have stayed at. Stayed for about a week, good distance from the market and free tram so it's easy to get around. The kitchen can use some cleaning because of the travellers but all in all very clean otherwise and really friendly staff! Great place to meet people and have a good time. My partner and I had to switch to Nomads mid week stay because I didn't book anymore nights and Metro was sold out for the night and went back immediately after.

This is one of my favourite places I have visited! I loved the room so, I would recommend room no. 1 because it has its own kitchen and balcony! The room terrace is amazing and there are some really great views!

Nice place and the location is fine. Showers are a bit dodgy — can't get dressed in the tiny, usually wet space allowed. New kitchen going in soon and it needs it. But the staff are friendly and helpful.

The place was clean and tidy. However, one big booking somehow turned into different rooms than those we booked — due we were initially told, to ensure that our rooms were next to each other. And then we didn't even get to be next door to each other. The staff were lovely, but not a lot of help or even able to really understand the room issue. It was a bit difficult with 6 children between us to wrangle to separate rooms, and when we asked to be close to the toilet, I was told all rooms are close to a toilet (because the rooms are around the toilet block — in the centre) but our rooms were on the opposite side to the entry to the toilet room!

Nice little hostel. Nice clean rooms and bathrooms. Lounge/Dining area was nicely set out and there was an open kitchen for those making food as well as space for everyone's shopping.

Great hostel. Close to the tram stops leading to the center, but you get to walk in 15 minutes. Close to the Queen Victoria Market. Quiet place where you have total autonomy. Super fast Wi-Fi. Breakfast Very friendly staff It all countries.

Very nice place to sleep. Good accomodations and free BBQ on Friday and Sunday. However there were not enough electrical outlets for everyone so I had to go to the lobby to charge my phone.

We were a party of 7 ladies in town for the Dominion March. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was clean as was the bed and linen. It was very reasonably priced and only a short 15 minute walk to the CBD. I can highly recommend the YHA Melbourne Metro.

Awesome hostel for short or long term. The staff isn't overly friendly but it still was nice to arrive. Good rooms, mediocre beds but the space is there. Amenities are good and Wi-Fi is only available in the common room. Large shared kitchen! Can recommend.

Nice hostel but had 90% Germans, who planned to stay in Melbourne for longer duration. Good facilities, nice kitchen and good common space to interact with fellow travelers. Downside is the location: If you are planning a short stay in Melbourne, do take the other YHA hostel near the Yarra river. It takes a lot of energy/time to go from this hostel to the city center.

The hostel is quite large, as is the leisure/canteen/relaxation room, with sofas, a billidist table and free Wi-Fi. There is a kitchen with refrigerators to store your belongings. The rooms are from 4 with two bunk beds, big enough to make us stay their own things. The shared bathrooms are well-structured with good amenities and showers.
The only thing that can be improved that comes to mind is the included breakfast, the offer is little: some cereal, bread, milk and a juice. All in all it remains a hostel, you can't expect hood and brioche, even if cappuccino or coffee are available for a fee.

Place was clean, staff was friendly and helpful. The location was out of city centre but easily accessible by free tram, so its quiet at night. It's real close to Queen Victoria Market. Very convenient.

Meh, so so. Fairly clean, affordable. Way more quiet than CBD choices. I didn't find it particularly clean or dirty, but the facilities show their age. It's definitely a "basic" quality big hostel. The YHA Central for example is modern and most people would prefer it over this location. Fantastic rooftop at this location though (that is worth a whole extra star). They offer yoga sometimes, wine+cheese+movie nite other times. No discount for HI/YHA members.

Great staff, very clean and comfortable hostel with events every day of the week and free bbq Fridays and Sundays! Having the Queen Victoria Market a 7 minute walk away is extremely helpful as well. Especially for backpackers on a budget. Really nice, safe area as too.

YHA metro is a gem in a city with many dodgy hostels to book a room in. The location is decent — it's a bit outside the CBD so it's nice, calm, and quiet, but it's close enough that everything in the CBD is a tram ride or a short walk away. The staff here are great as well, they're very willing to point you in the right direction as far as great bars, bands, events, etc. Likewise, the staff really makes sure that there's something for you to do every day. There are free BBQs on the weekend, there's a movie night, free comedy, YHA metro vs YHA central soccer games, just to name a few. The rooms themselves are good. Nothing spectacular, but it's a hostel, not a 5 star hotel. Only complaint really is the bathrooms, but the room keys unlock all the bathrooms on the various floors so it's not a huge deal. Overall I've been very happy with my stay at the YHA metro, and highly recommend it over any other hostel in the area.

The male/Femail showers and toilets were being renovated on the 2nd floor. If I was told about the ablutions when booking, I would have stayed elsewhere. Not Happy! Never again. Suggest phone before you book and ask if Everything is Working!

Great place, clean and tidy. A little further out of the city than first thought and the staff could do with some training on how to offer good customer service.

Pretty clean facilities, cool amenities, informative staff (for in-house events and general info), fairly decent location with good parking around. Rooms were slightly stuffy, and single elevator made for a wait but overall very reasonable and memorable stay.

Mostly friendly staff, felt like I was been treated like a 6 year old at the introduction like I don't need a long talk on what to and not to do just give me a brocure, decent Alanemities for a Youth Hostel. Clean & hot showers, close to the city. Would give a solid 4 but I was not given a Wi-Fi pass as I was in a group of students so just a tad of discrimination there.

Nice stay. Everything was clean, professional, and the hostel ran a lot of free events for the guests such as a bbq and a movie night. Very friendly environment.

Views were amazing from the roof shared area, affordable prices and located only a short way from the city.

We booked a private family room and it is comparably cheap and is located inside the city. Reaching the location is bit difficult due to traffic but is conveniently located. Rooms are good and clean.

It was really worth it, comfortable and in a nice residential area. Easily accessible and one stop away from the free tram zone. The parking area was in the basement of the building and the entry is from the backside of the street.

It was a really good stay. Nice staff and very helpful. Good food facilities and a guest kitchen. Good rooftop with an great view of the city. And it's also quiet so that's a big bonus. Only downside is that the power points in the dorm rooms are not next to the bunk beds so that if you want to charge your phone you can't have an alarm on because you'd have to get out of bet to turn it off. Another inconvenience is that the cupboard aren't supplied with there own locks but the reception does sell locks though. All in all a good place and if you want somewhere close to the city and at a cheap rate this is the place for you.

Thanks to the staff at the YHA. Friendly, helpfull the place has an all round good vibe. The bacon, egg and coffee on the mornings great starts the day off well, catering staff lovely very friendly. Highly recommended a credit to YHA…

Stayed here a year or so back and I wasn't hugely impressed. I heard it was under new management and a friend of mine said to give it a go. The staff were fantastic, they really made the stay 100x better then last time. The manager was very attentive and extremely happy to help. This place had revived my thoughts when it comes to staying at YHA hostels. Thanks Jordan and the team @ YHA Metro!

I have stayed there a few times over the last 8 years. It has always been clean and tidy. Melbourne CBD is only 15 minutes walk away or the closest tram stop is only 3 minutes walk away. Will definitely stay there again. Also Skybus does drop off and pick up from the hostel.

All the staff are super friendly and helpful apart from 1 guy, the free internet is good, the rooms are pretty standard, there is a rooftop garden which has a lovely view. There isn't much of an atmosphere in the communal areas which isn't the hostels fault, but I've heard from people who have stayed for a few weeks it's always like that apart from the odd night, the kitchen is cleaned regularly, the lounge area is huge and very close Queen Victoria market. Toilets and showers have a ridiculous timer for the lights and its by the door, so you would have to come out of the cubicle and wave ur hand and to turn them on, the toilets are small, to open the door you would have to press yourself against the wall. Overall I wouldn't mind going back not a totally bad place.

Really nice hostel, pretty close to the cbd, 15 minute walk and decent tram connections. there is free Wi-Fi in the common area but if you want it in your room you're going to have to shell out $5 for a day, $10 for three or $15 for a week. rooms are pretty small, but cleaned every day and there are regular hostel events!

The size of the rooms are good, stayed in a 4 person dorm. There's lockable lockers in the room, and each bed has a light. Unfortunately the timer in the toilet area is quite agressive, I showered in the dark every single time I showered. — you cannot grt the lights on again without exiting the shower stall, as the sensor is in the common area, which means you'll have to get out of the wet slibery stall, in the dark, to get the lights on. The view from the roof-top terrace is really great, especially at sunset.

Great people (staff and residents), a quiet Rooftop, good kitchen and sanitary facilities, and overall good decor. There are unfortunately no oven :)

Cheap place to stay but the group atmosphere is no good. Nobody talks to anyone else and there's not much to do compared to other yhas I've stayed at. Would not reccomend to stay here for a long period of time.

Awesome place! Great staffs, clean rooms, nice bathrooms, chilled lounge. Kitchen could be a mess at times, but that's not the YHA's fault and its out of their control before the cleaning hours. Would stay again.

This hostel is clean and everything works there. It's situated really nice close to the Vitoria market. But you can also reach the CBD by foot in 10-15 minutes. The aura could be more familiar but it's a huge hostel so that's normal. Visiting Melbourne again we would always go there. (And actually we already did that. ) The only thing that annoyed us was that there are a lot of germans there. Consequently sometimes you heard more german than english beeing in the kitchen. The Wi-Fi price is ok. You get free Wi-Fi in the lounge. It doesn't work very good but it's what you expect from free Wi-Fi. For 15$ you get the premium access for one week which works better. (You could also take it for less days. ) If anything doens't work the staff at reception will always help you!

'Free Wi-Fi' means dial-up speed. Paid 'Premium Wi-Fi! ' (normal internet) card didn't work. Communal area is cold and dead silent aside from chatter, and is blasted with glaring bright fluorescent lights, whole place feels like a hospital.

Always clean, warm and comfy.

Stayed in Melbourne Metro YHA with my friends. Excellent services, great vibe. Highly recommended to everyone who is visiting Melbourne.

Cheap = Bad service, noisy rooms, extra charges for everything, beds are not comfy at all, in the end you can get better hotel with the total money.

Very good hostel even if a bit far from the CBD. The big common area allows you to meet people very easily in a very friendly atmosphere. The rooftop is very nice to enjoy a nice bbq and a good view of the city, especially in the summer. It is very clean and events are organized almost every day.

Clean and tidy, very good place to stay! Definitely better than YHA in Sydney. I like this place.

Price is alright, but they charge you for Wi-Fi, food and all other extra stuffs. And the bed is awful. I can't even fall asleep. I won't live in YHA again.

My brand new juice and milk were stealed just because I didn't know I need to put a label on it. The most disgusting thing is the theft drunk half of it and left on table instead of rubbish box. Watch out your things. Next time that may happen to your valued things.

Great friendly workers who will point you to the local places with good food and nice drinks. Spent a week there on schoolies, they weren't fussy about entering and leaving times and were happy to help anyone with anything. (They have bottle openers at the counter).
