I stayed in back of chapel back in 2014 when I was traveling australia, I tried many hostels but kept coming back to this place its community and atmosphere are not matched in melbourne and its location is great. Also another plus I met a girl there and we are now married with a child settling in the UK ;)

Wales in went up the dodgy stairs with ripped up filthy carpet the floors in the rooms and halls had not been vaccines or cleaned clearly in months thick dirt everywhere you almost couldn't see the floor in the room I had there were dirty socks all over my bed and the ground was covered in dirt and dirty clothes I walked straight out it had a bad smell the dirtiest place I've been in I would rather sleep in the park then this dirt hole.

Best hostel ever. You'll make friends for life and love every minute. 5/5, just stay there, you won't regret it.

This is a loud and messy party hostel.

I've stay in a few hostels in Melbourne and this is by far the best, nice facilities. Great management and staff too which makes for a good atmosphere about the place.

There is no better place to stay in Melbourne. They have the best staff, Josh and Aaron are both lovely. They are nice, easy going and always there to help! Kelly the cleaner is awesome, she will always make you laugh and keeps the place in tip top shape! They have 4 great showers, a coin washer and dryer and a good sized kitchen. For being a "hostel" it really gives the feeling of being right at home. All of the rooms are good sizes and beds that are very comfortable with clean sheets! You have access to lockers and bins to keep all your belongings in, very convenient. Each bed or private room has a space in the kitchen where you can store food/dishes. The fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to cook for yourself (a great way to save money when travelling) the free breakfast is a definite bonus! There are plenty of grocery stories close buy which was also very convenient, since we're all on a budget. Since it is a smaller hostel you can become quite close with everyone, it's like a family. There are always people doing stuff and everyone is always included (if they choose to be). This was one of the best things I found staying here especially since we were all travelling we were all in the same boat. You can relate very easily. The location is another selling point, it's a 2 minute walk to chapel street. This is one Melbourne's hottest spots with amazing bars and restaurants to really cool shops. It has it all.

Really excellent hostel, I initially booked for a week & ended up staying a month. 6 bed dorms are big enough & beds are comfortable, with really friendly roommates. Bathrooms, common areas & dorms are cleaned regularly, along with the kitchen. Management are extremely trusting (no 24 hour reception) which is reflected by the conduct of the guests, which is always respectful, both of the hostel & each other. Location of the hostel is great; Chapel Street is full of bars & restaurants that you actually want to go to, and access to CBD is easy. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat, which I think is a great measure of how good a hostel is. Well worth a visit.

Could not have asked for a better two and a half months! Josh, Aaron, and Kel were always very accomodating and tended to any needs I possibly had. Bathroom facilities were clean (great shower pressure as well), Kitchen was clean, and the rooms were a good size and I appreciated homely feel. Whether you're staying for three nights or three months in Melbourne I'd highly recommend staying at BOC. The social atmosphere, perfect location, and friendly staff make this a place I will surely visit when I'm back to Melbourne.

Really nice hostel. Spent 6 days there and everyone was really friendly. + People drink together on the terrace or just have a good time. + Many people stayed there for many months so the atmosphere was rather like in a shared house than in a typical hostel + close to chapel street with a lot of bars, restaurants and good clubs + free (basic) breakfast + clean enough (not perfectly clean but I did not have a problem with that) — takes a few stops (15 to 20 minutes) by tram to get to the city center.

Awesome place to stay in Melbourne! Great guys that work there always a good crowd in the place! Bars, restaurants you name it it's within a 5 minute walk… if that isn't good enough train station 2 minutes down the road not to mention the trams round the corner! +)

Really nice hostel. The staff are helpful, they would help people with transport reservations if needed, help with directions and so forth. There was a cleaner every day, and because of the great utilities the stay would be very cozy. Nice small hostel were people get to know each other really fast. During the warm period they even served free popsicles. I would go back any time!

Excellent hostel right next to chapel street where you can find loads of bars and places to eat. So easy to get into the city from here with tram and train stops within walking distance. Hostel is cool and friendly with a mix of backpackers from all over the world.

Good place, good people. Old house with a lot of charm and character where only 40 people can live there, human size, everybody is friendly. Next door to all the good pubs and coffees in chapel street, 10 min from the beach, 15 min from the city. Good cinema with cheap movie next door. Free Wi-Fi, breakfast…

Great hostel, ideal size to meet new people. Close to St Kilda beach, the CBD and of course Chapel Street is just at the end of the road with everything from shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets. Great balconies with some rooms!

When I first arrived it was meant as a temporary stop while looking for a apartment. But after a week staying here I found myself loving it so much I did not even bother looking any further for another place. The place is very clean and gets cleaned every morning. There is a free breakfast every morning. With several things to choose from. The common room feels like a big home living room where u can relax, have a chat, play a game, or watch a movie. The home like feeling makes it easy to get to know your fellow backpackers without compromising your nights rest or privacy. The location (a side street of Chappell st) is nearby almost every thing. Public transport is literally around the corner and there is a coles, aldi and woolworth in walking distance. Chappell st is filled with bars, restaurants, clubs, and clothing stores to discover. But because its on a side street of the busy street u don't have to worry about to much noise or disturbance. Overall it is the greatest hostel I have stayed so far. Thx back of Chappell.

Fun friendly hostel. Great location just off Chapel Street. Lots to do around the area and great hostel to socialise and make friends! Helpful staff, free Wi-Fi and breakfast and beds changed regularly, would highly recommend.

Great friendly hostel in an ideal location close to heaps of bars, cafés and restaurants. Public transport links are on your doorstop. Free brekkie and Wi-Fi — great way to save money. Really chilled out and welcoming place.
