I have attended this classy and stylish hotel on a number of occasions over a 4-5 year period, and have always found it to be superb in a number of key areas. The food is reliably delicious, cooked by top class chefs and served by delightfully friendly staff. The variety of cuisine is impressive and there is always something available for every taste. The decor is appropriately neutral, and the atmosphere warm and pleasant. The “restaurant” section is perfectly positioned towards the rear of the ground floor, giving it an exclusive feel and a quieter ambience. The main bar is a centrepiece of the hotel and everything fits beautifully around it. Outside you’ll find a few tables where you can choose to eat if you so desire, or gather with friends for a refreshing ale or favourite cocktail. There are also a couple of surprise options available for groups to either dine, drink or both. The rooftop terrace offers quite stunning views of the city and leafy surrounds of South Melbourne, and provides the luxury of large table umbrellas if it rains during a private function, and a private bar. There’s also a private “wine cellar” dining room in the basement for up to a dozen people.
The Coppersmith is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week and also offers splendid, boutique accommodation for those wishing to hire one of their 15 rooms on offer above the ground floor bar and restaurant.

The Coppersmith is truly a wonderful boutique hotel… the staff are amazing, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and relaxed… love going here.

Absolutely amazing roast dinner cooked by Dan! The presentation and the meat was delicious and a roast and wine for $25 seemed incredibly cheap considering the cut of meat! The interior in this place is Devine, I just couldn’t get over in a place like that & location like that at lunch time on a Sunday there were only 4 people in there! Couldn’t falter the place at all it was amazing but not much atmosphere in way of people, not sure if it’s down to lack of advertising or what. I only knew about the place through a friend, I’ve never seen it advertised on social media and wouldn’t of known it was there if a friend hadn’t told us! Highly recommend anyone to visit, I hear the rooms are lovely too!

Good food, reasonable prices, pleasant atmosphere. More of a wine and cheese place than a beer and footy pub. Rooftop has a great view of the city and would be an awesome place for a beer on a sunny day, not so great on a rainy day as was the case on my visit.

After a long week in Asia I was looking forward to a nice steak in an Aussie pub. The service was great and bar staff bubbly and friendly, but the food was woeful. $44 for a porterhouse steak that only comes with a sprinkling of leaves as a side. $9 for mash to even make it even close to a full meal. I ordered well done, and as soon as I saw the waitress coming over with the plate and saw the light brown colour, I was wondering if this was my meal… Honestly it looked like it had been pan fried or microwaved not grilled, and was dry and tasteless. I had to have some of my friend's fries to get the taste out of my mouth after… Honestly if you can't get a basic steak right, then don't bother. You are a pub!

We were blown away with the barman, the waitress and especially the food. We had the recommended Sunday roast & it was the most & delicious roast meat we have ever eaten. We would certainly recommend the coppersmith to anyone who loves eating delicious food in a relaxed environment. Al & Michelle…

I booked a table for 8 on Open Table only to be told on arrival we would be seated in the bar not the bistro. We were then squeezed on to a table for 6 on stools which is normally walk up. I was told that the restaurant has had issue with Open Table for weeks and we should have been informed by Open Table the bistro was booked out weeks ago. Not impressed with management attitude and blaming others for their mistakes. At no point in the booking were we informed of this. On this occasion we had two people who could not sit on stools and ended up standing most of the time. Management couldn't offer my wife who had recently had a cesarean a chair with a back on it.

Absolutely love this place! As a bit of a picky vegetarian, it’s sometime hard to find something I like on a menu. But the chef came out to my table, asked me my likes and dislikes and came up with a delicious pasta dish that was perfect. The service and decor here is lovely and my partner and I liked it so much we went twice in one day.

Decided to pop in for a quick glass of sparkling wine on a busy day if errands. It was mid day on a Monday so it was quiet. Venue was lovely and clean, staff were friendly. I sat outside in the sun. If I'm in the area again I'll pop in.

The Coppersmith is centrally located to many attractions and the city and crown casino is a 15min stroll about 2km. Plenty of public transport options nearby. The fitout is modern and very tidy. We had a standard room which was cozy but absolutely fine. Nothing more required. Decent TV with proper foxtel. The bathroom was large & luxurious with modern stone and tiling. A large shower and big mirror was excellent. We stayed in room 11 on the 2nd floor facing Albert Park (1min walk) ; but there is no view due to the original Victorian era facade. If you want the view jump in the lift to the rooftop bar and chill out zone. This offers fantastic panoramic views including the city in full view! Downstairs is also a great bar and bistro. Many beers and cocktails ate available including an extensive wine menu to please most. We didnt try the food; however the menu was modern contemporary Australian and read very well. We found the staff friendly and happy to assist. And check-in/out process straight forward at the rear of the bar in an office.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Simple but well thought-out rooms, friendly and efficient check-in process, relaxed but fun gastropub downstairs. The food we had was good too. I don’t know Melbourne well enough to know the best areas to stay but I wouldn’t massively rate the location here. The immediate surrounds seemed a bit quiet and it is a little way out of the centre. It can easily be walked though and seemed like a nice enough neighbourhood.

Fantastic boutique hotel. Great bar/restaurant with a good menu options and dishes are very good. A range of beers avssilabke on tap and wine list is also pretty good. Modern decor with plenty of space on the ground level and a small rooftop bar with sesting is also available. Rooms are modern and well appointed. Location is nice as its a short walk to Albert Park and the main shopping strip is also a short walk in the opposite driection. Tram access nearby with options to St Kilda, beach and city.

Great up scale social south Melbourne pub, with heaps of good beers on tap (and wine taps also! ) and an amazing rooftop deck that's worth it alone.

Excellent food and atmosphere, great Service, staff very hospitable was there watching AFL Grand Final and Melb Cup food on both occassions was scrumptious and full of flavour.

Can't really talk about the food… stayed there a few weeks back overnight. small weird room, noisy, and not business friendly. Literally nowhere to setup a laptop and charger etc. Obviously a lot of money has spent on the reno, but to me it's all a bit confused. Is it a restaurant/bar or is it a boutique hotel? Hopefully the owner (s) make a success of the former. The latter is a massive fail.

I booked a large group of my colleagues for a fairwell luncheon today. I had never been to the Coppersmith before and on first impression I was very impressed. The atmosphere and decor is light and welcoming. The food was delicious and beautifully displayed. I was seriously considering our company Christmas function may be an option here. Until… The french waiter was unnecessarily rude & dismissive to several of my colleagues. It is not ok for our staff to be rude to people during the course of the day and it is not acceptable that they are made feel uncomfortable when they go out to dine. We will not rebook again.

Went for Mothers day today. Good Food, service was good but not great. Reason for 1 star, items on the final bill were not chargeable, it was lucky I checked, I felt this type of place was a little beyond the old trick of adding items to a tab that were not supposed to be there. The place has potential and maybe this was just a mistake. Disappointing none the less. Justin.

This boutique hotel is understated, quiet and comfortable. The trend in smaller hotels that offer simple but detailed service is something I enjoy as I get older. The breakfast was good and the location excellent.

Gorgeous pub with a fantastic atmosphere. Food and wine were sensational and the staff and service were out of this world. I will be bringing friends back for drinks on the rooftop, parents back for lunch or dinner and I will also treat myself again to another of their fabulously run events like the wine matching evening I attended last night. We went as a group of 6 for dinner last night and got a table easily but suspect that won't be the case once word gets out about this new and uber-cool boutique hotel. Early days for the team and all seemed to run like clockwork. A great menu which at first read, seemed to be very short but when you added the specials and with the flexibility the kitchen allowed in mix and matching the side dishes, it had something for everyone and more. Coppersmith has a great back-story and the themed decor and branding must have cost squillions but the result is fantastic. Highly recommended.
