Port Adelaide Backpackers Hostel

Derek is a legend! Helped us out in so many ways. Lots of nice people stay at this hostel, stay for a few weeks and you'll make lots of friends. A bit far from the CBD but if you've got a car it's fine. Port Adelaide has lots of amenities within a five minute walk, so the only draw of the CBD is the shops.

Great place to stay and friendly people to help you around… everything is clean, comfortable and convenient. Highly recommended.

Nice hostel. A little bit to small kitchen with not so much utensils but it's ok. It's not very full at any time. Nice rooms. We ask for a double room and became an upgrade to a 3-person room. Little bit small but very nice.

Nice private rooms, clean bathroom and small kitchen that is mostly clean! Reception is a TV screen with a webcam girl! That's wired…

Well, this is our third stay here and I've gotta say I rather like it. It's reasonably priced, friendly (for the most part) and clean. The building has an interesting layout too, formerly being the British Sailor's Society. Only drawbacks here are the lack of off street parking, it's surrounded by busy roads which are a nuisance to cross and even worse to drive in and also there is a no outside alcohol policy, though there is a bar which has reasonably priced drinks as well, with limited selection. Well worth a try.

Cheap so expect cheap. Room smells like feet. Did the job for one night.

Fantastic place, cheap, great beds, very friendly and fun atmosphere… People writing negative post, honestly its a backpackers … What more could u want… I would suggest it to anyone…

Very dirty, lots of drunks or worse and reception is outsourced to the Philippines so you are talking to a receptionist on Skype. Stay if you like it rough.

Good for backpackers like me, but 40 minutes Bus drive away from the central of adelaide… hostel got a good familiar flair and lots of clean showers&toilets… PS3 with fifa, billiard, port adelaide can be interesting, dominos on the other site of the street, free parking not far … cheap… go for it!

Nice place to stay, they have good beds and a nice common room with free pool all day. The manager Derrik is a nice and helpful guy. Its not too busy here and u can see some dolphins in the river if u watch out for them.

Guys this place was awful and unpleasant we paid $600 for 5 night but we didn't stay for the rest of the nights (we only stayed for one night) because the room was very bad and smelly, the kitchen wasn't clean, utensils were dirty and unwashed, the shower room was dirty, there were less facilities and was not usable. I tried to explain to the receptionist who was over Skype however after 2 hours of explanation she was still not helpful. I tried to get hold of the owner and so when I did the owner was very rude and unfriendly. He asked me not to put any feedback yet he was still not willing to refund for the 4 nights of the room which I had booked. My advice would be to definitely not go to this hotel because you all will just be wasting time and money on a hotel which is not worth it.

A good place to stay… very clean friendly atmosphere… the owners are fantastic but on the other hand… the caretaker Derek has an attitude problem… and I dont think he is suitable for such a job… and many others have agreed.

Its in the cbd of port adelaide super close to public transport reasonable rates for a backpackers lodge.

Its amazingly cheap, only 19$pp/night. Also, all the beds are actual mattresses, and are very comfy. Plenty of bathrooms and showers which are nice and clean. Nice communal area with comfy couches, a free pool table, 2 different areas with TVs, a large undercover outdoor area, and a small library. The tram ride into town takes apx 20 minutes, walking to the beach takes apx 30 minutes. I have no idea what is with the other bad reviews. The manager/reception who booked us in was nice and friendly, and the other receptionist (on Skype) was also very friendly and helpful.

Love the place, love the breakfast (pancakes and etc). The staff were very helpful. Far from the city but good value for money.

Unbelievable! I have never been treated like that before and it was extremely embarrassing for my wife as well! I had stayed here a few months ago and thought it was alright for just a night when you are from OUT OF TOWN, wanting to save some bucks and just want somewhere to crash after a night out. I asked maybe 3 questions regarding the bathrooms, as they were out of order the last time I stayed and the manager suddenly blew up at me and told me he did not want my business and demanded we leave! He then stormed off opened the front door and practically pushed us both out! He was rude, arrogant and EXTREMELY UNHELPFUL and UNFRIENDLY! I URGE you DO NOT PAY THIS ESTABLISHMENT MONEY! Their rooms are disgusting and as I said before, their bathrooms are still NOT finishes after at least 4 months! Do what we did and pay the extra $50 for a beautiful room with ensuite at nearly half a dozen other motels! If you cant afford that then I would personally rather sleep in my car! An extremely embarrassing and very unwarranted action by management and it was lucky we are only out of towners and not from interstate or overseas or else he would have tarnished ALL cheap Adelaide Accommodation places.

Booked to stay two nights in this place and left after one it was so bad. On the first night we didn't sleep at all due the noise. The place was an occupational health and safety nightmare with wires showing, pieces of the ceiling missing and workmens' tools scattered on the ground to dodge. We tried having an afternoon sleep to recuperate and couldn't due to the loud drilling noises. Frustrated we asked for our money for the remaining night. The owners started screaming insults until we hastily left. My advice, try another back packers where the owners are less greedy and callow and plain aggressive. They should have finished their very major repairs before letting rooms to people.

Cheap and clean. The boss was very friendly. Two kitchen and many shower room. It's the best choice.
