Review of Montego Mermaid Beach Motel 2*

A'Montego DUMP… the public toilets smelt better and were cleaner than this "holiday motel" Being lied to by the management, broken PowerPoints, broken glass window, filthy cooking utensil and stove top, bathroom with mould, awful smell in the rooms, people smoking outside the front door, safe, health and personal safety issues. The website photos do not match reality. So you can see that there was NOTHING good about our experience! — Especially since the motel have accused us of lying and refusing to refund our payment. It was so bad that we did not stay there and had to find another motel… which we did and it was fantastic. Same price, gardens, helpful staff, clean, lots of room and we felt safe. Thank you to Grande Florida Beachside Resort for making our holiday wonderful. Here are some of the issues we had: KITCHEN • Kitchen bench had a large uncleaned patch of dried food residue • Cupboard had food stains • Dish drainer was rusty • Fridge was missing a shelf inside the door • Some of the UHT milk provided was two days before expiry • Oven door had grease dribbles down the front • Inside of the oven was dirty • Stove top was rusty • Microwave was dirty/rusty inside • Cutlery was dirty, rusty and broken with food residue; the knives had rust spots all over them and the egg flipper was melted and burnt • No power points available in the kitchen, and the covers over what appear to have once been power points were broken • Shelves in kitchen missing chipped and broken • Linoleum lifting BEDROOMS • Master bedroom wardrobe door mirror comes away from frame • Carpet worn away • Dust and cobwebs under bed (apparent that not vacuumed under bed in some time) • Scuffs on walls • Pain missing on window sills/frames BATHROOM • Spa bath stained and jets were chipped and rusty • Toilet roll holder broken and rusty • Cabinets chipped • No lock on back of toilet door (half of latch missing) • Toilet door handle dirty, missing towel hook • Mildew on shower screen LOUNGE / LIVING ROOM • Table old, marked (cigarette burn? ) • One light globe in ceiling not working • Broken glass window • Lounge chairs stained, dirty, ripped • Walls marked, scuffed, paint missing • Chipped concrete below sliding door ENTRY TO HOTEL ROOM • Linoleum lifting • Rusty, dirty hinges • Dirty door COURTYARD / DECK • Concrete dirty, missing paint • Old, chipped outdoor furniture • Dirty, old cleaning equipment • Open access to any guest to courtyard (no lock on gate) OTHER ITEMS • Safety – power box rusty, open to elements • Stairwell – unsafe, rusty, dirty, steep • Non-smoking rooms, but people 2m from our door smoking outside their room • Cleanliness – Note advising unclean rooms would be charged extra for cleaning, but already unclean; would we be charged?! • Owing to cutlery, crockery, and cooking utensils being so dirty, we went to Woolworths and bought several items (ca $50 worth), but returned them after moving to our new hotel.
